I don't mind any tool, expression, prop people use and call it art, but some of the renders, it is very apparent that they didn't do anything to Barbie except repose her and call it art,...uhhh, I mean Viki, lol. ...eye of the beholder I guess.
Thread: Never to old to ask for advice. Bryce and Vista | Forum: Bryce
Running Bryce 6.1 without any OS related problems on my Vista x64-bit. I have Vista running just as fast as XP for renders in my 3D apps. Games and IO functions run a very tiny bit slower though(drivers), but rock stable.
Thread: Renderfarm Setup - Correct? | Forum: Bryce
I see you have XP Pro on some of those clients,.. do you use the KVM switch for all or remote desktop config?
Ah yes, I see the vent on floor in pic.
Thread: Renderfarm Setup - Correct? | Forum: Bryce
Thats a nice setup. Can't wait for benches. Don't forget the AC,... 4+ computers can heat up a small room kinda fast, lol.
Btw, I only ever had two computers hooked up in Bryce(direct connect crossover cable), and Lightning worked fine for client node. I just wish the Host could render better on network.
Thread: OT maybe? Advice on huge monitor needed.... | Forum: Bryce
I read around the net, that using large TV LCD setups(any) are not that great for 3dcg. Game consoles and such work well on them, but nothing can touch a good 22-24inch widescreen computer LCD for graphics(unless you do dual monitor). For the price of that 42inch, you could probably do triple 19inch monitor setups(their fairly cheap now), which as soon as you view triple setups for games OR graphics, you'll never want anything else, lol(including high end projectors). As for a graphics card, a Nvidia 7600 to 7900GT should do fine for anything out now. (Btw this is just what I read, not an opinion, except for triple monitors)
Thread: When is Daz going to fix this #%!*+* piece of Crap ?!?!? | Forum: Bryce
I said it in a few other posts, that if 6.1 didn't improve greatly on Bryce that it would be used ALOT less in my tools. Well,... it was hit or miss with Bryce 6.1 on my system as well, and thats not good enough. A 3D program NEEDS to be more stable, at least for professional or prolonged use it does(and I waited a looong time too). I could list bugs I've found, but I thought it easier to say I will be using it less.
Im guessing, that the people that aren't having any problems are not pushing all/some of the advanced features Bryce has, or their working around the bugs. Its just to old of code/GUI for me now, however I still use it for making my terrains and other backdrops and enjoy what does work in Bryce just fine. It is not a bad 3D app at all, and I will always have it in my tools, plus support it as a very easy app to work with. It just needs/must have, an overhaul before I put anymore money into it.
Thread: Bryce 5.5 is now free | Forum: Bryce
Ouch!. I just paid $40 for 6.0 upgrade(limited sale now for $20), and Bryce 5.5 $100(now free?) not to long ago. Oh well I guess thats how the computer software market goes. Same happened with my other 3DCG software. Paid $200, approx a little over year ago, now its $100.
Thread: Why I won't be entering Rendo's Graphic Comp | Forum: Bryce
Thanks for the heads up info AgentSmith,... thus thats what I meant by the "non-commercial" comment. I didn't mean Ren was leaving us all out.
Thread: Opinions | Forum: Bryce
Part of the reason the standard has dropped(I see this on many sites, not just Ren) is the way content is being used. Not bashing Poser or other, its just Poser type apps I thought was to be used for animations/visualisations/ additions etc..., NOT 3D stills of soft porn slapped together in an hour. I don't care if it takes skill and a week for some either, the end result is still the same.
I remember when companies used to say, "look what our program can do all by itself". Now its, "look what our program can import in content, which we have for sale". Thus the standard drops(along with skills), hmm. I wonder what it would have been like if Studio wasn't integrated with Bryce.

Thread: Opinions | Forum: Bryce
Yep, again, I just went through a couple of hundred newer pictures in the gallery. Have to remember too, Bryce has approx 240000 posts, to Poser's 897000, so I guess were gonna see Viki ALOT!...lol. Maybe its about 3D app learning curves too, cause quality suffers in most gallery pics(3d renders, not photography). But there are also some newly posted gems in there, with barely a mention.
If it wasn't for the Bryce forum here, I would probably move on.
Thread: Opinions | Forum: Bryce
Ditto what vangogh said.
And I hope that it doesn't ruin what I came to Ren for in the first place..great 3D art. Content(Viki's..etc...) might make some sites like Ren/DAZ or others money, but it doesn't necessarily make one an artist.
Thread: Alright. HDRI. | Forum: Bryce
I was going to ask the same questions about Bryce 6.1 HDRI shadows. Two questions for guru's. ;)
1.So in order to get soft HDRI shadows(like B6.0) I have to bump up the render options, and enable soft shadows? (I dred the render times for this)
2.So which gives the best HDRI results over-all...6.0 or 6.1 in your opinions?
Im surprised there wasn't more talk about 6.1 HDRI here, as there was about 6.0.
Thread: Opinions | Forum: Bryce
Yep, agree. Very hard to see what people are using Bryce for now a days in gallery. Seems like they are just using Bryce for a render backdrop and over-using other content in front of it. No real interesting camera angles or compostions like when I started here at Ren. Also very hard to tell whats pure Bryce or not in some scenes, at all too. Even the Bryce SOW(sphere over water) is more interesting than some over posed/half naked warrior Viki scenes, lol.
