Hi K Have you put a floor in your scene use a square prop primitive scale it to the size you want, put it on the floor, put some texture on it and try that!

Rattler Have you actually used P5???? Propack has no materials room dynamic hair dynamic clothes Ray tracing renderer need I go on.. It takes a while and some application to use the beast and it it not perfect but much much better than poser 4 It's no good saying "I cant use the dynamic stuff" and blaming it on the program all the above works fine on my machine all that happens when you use a faster machine is the dynamics work faster. My previous machine (AMD 1.2GHz) worked fine. I pulled the entire program folder(runtimes et all) over to my new machine(Intel 2.6 HT) over the network with no problem. I had to re-install poser 4 - which I have used once - to use the cursed morph injections for V3 that all , after P5 p4 is a toy It just depends if you have the patience to learn how dynamics work, I have and snort derisively at people who can't or won't - and blame the program. Texture mape -= been using 4096 pixel maps for these many years. I've seen poser grow up from poser 1 to 5 and every last one is a learning curve. I have my P5 working just fine, I look forward to P6 - and I will make sure that I read the manuals, and tutorials that other users put up. and continue enjoying doing things. back to lurking

If you want to people a scene (lots of them) then posettes/dorks tiny mesh is really good. Half distance or something like that, passengers waiting to board airliners, stations. Some good freeware out there still for both. I don't use them for foreground work thats for Vicky and Mike. I do use Don now and again for foreground work - he does take millenium textures quite well, makes all the difference. I only use Judy when I need an alien (oops sorry)
Thread: Upgrade to WinXP - Does Poser still work or do I have to reinstall? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I pulled my complete poser directory over the network to a new folder on a new computer- worked fine I've also taken the "old" HDD and stuffed it into a new computer with no problems. both poser 4 and 5 still working. mind I was going from a windows 2000 NTFS file system to an XP NTFS file system ( not FAT 32) so I cannot say if the file allocations would remain the same. I repeat I did not reinstall poser on any of my machines

sheesh loads of things here.
Look at your shadow mapping (lights.) settings should be set shadows to around 0.150
and 1024 for the shadow mapping
this will sort out the jaggedy black shadows
rendering
render in firefly
look at the rendering properties
maximum texture resolution should be high (not 1024) I run mine at 4096 (remember the octet problem pre sp1 old timers?)
this will give as sharp a render as the texture will allow.
loads more to play with (like focus, camera settings etc etc drone drone)
play with it, learn from the tutorials that people put up from time to time.
enjoy

Thread: Dr. Who Missing! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I saw the first episode -about two teachers tracing Susan I seem to remember- I was but a tadpole at the time though Had my Dr Who scarf - my sister knitted it for me, every so often she would knit a bit more - damn thing ended up about twelve feet long. Patrick Troughton was the Dr for me -a very sharp character that hid behind stupidity... an aged and wrinkled narsil
Thread: Really feel Cheated! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Good grief!
I lurk (as most old timers seem to do these days) but some times I just have to break silence..
firstly - a major upgrade will have problems. Most software companies try to beta as much as they can.CL was running out of money and they had a huge user demand to release the
beast. I can remember a release of Maya that froze Windows NT machines solid - under certain circumstances and only on
some machines.
Secondly you need to use the beastie rather than sit looking at it in its box, or conversely using it making a mistake and blaming the application. I well remember a question about memory - the user put DDR ram into a non DDR machine and blamed Poser 5 instead of his inexperience.
There is now enough hardware expertise and excellent tutorials around to help people over the initial hump of going from P4 to P5.
Finally I look forward to all the bitching that will happen when the alpha's and beta's of Daz Studio finally hit the streets. Daz has to some extent hedged their bets by making the base free but I wonder what will happen when the expensive dynamic clothing plugin fails to work?? Hmm?
Will we have the Daz "look what Daz has released now!" brigade launching a defence.
Oh by the way -yes I will use Daz Studio, like I use poser 5,my graphics pad and my pencil - as a tool. All are tools to convert the pictures in my imagination to something other people can see.
Poser 5 takes a long time to understand. I have only just started to make worthwhile animations.Yes you can do animations with firefly- hint ,its to to with the bucket size in the renderer;-)
I do commend the readers to Carolly's comments. Most of the Poser 5 users who have put in the time and patience to get the thing working are very happy with it.
I have had more problems with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 (graphic cards going haywire, systems crashes, etc),than I ever had with Poser 5. Microsoft has come out with a patch - that is probably "bad programming" too!
I am using Poser(amongst other things) for key framing a production of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. When copyright allows I will drop the odd frame into this forum, I do not use the galleries..

PS Carolly -yes I do own a Nikon camera
Thread: No disk space in the current resolution... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I got round this by giving having having a fixed virtual memory (just give the same value in the minimum box as in the maximum box in the instructions above - this gives poser a more recognisable chunk of memory to use ) Defrag the disk before you set up the virtual disk(!) and clear out all the temp files that have accrued. you have to have admin rights and unhide the hidden folders to do this for the following folder -OS drive:/documents and settings/ admin (or user name)/local settings/temp - look in that directory delete every thing and see if that clears things up enjoy! P PS in the animation studio I used to work in we used to have a foam hammer that we used to pound our monitors with if we were frustrated - we called it the bit cruncher :-)

Thread: Hardware Questions | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I can do no more than re-iterate what has been said before 1. As much RAM as you can shoehorn into the system. DDR works faster 2. A 1 Gb permanent swapfile (preferably on a separate hard disk) 3. If you are going for the DAZ studio instead / with either poser 4 or 5 a good but not cutting edge video card. Poser is CPU and RAM/memory intensive so the trick is to maximise the memory bus - look for a cpu's with large on board caches, large FSB's and match the DDR ram speeds to the motherboard.
Thread: RAM speed and render times. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Oops meant to say I agree with BlackHearted - Render time are almost the same on the new machines as on my old and trusty AMD 1.2Ghz with 512Mb or PC133 ram. I think there is something at work in the rendering algorithm that chugs along at the same rate. P
