Quoth the CEO: by Curious Labs (Curious_Labs) on August 20, 2003 04:21 Undo capabilities is one of the top requests for users. This will take a lot of engineering effort to implement throughout the application. It also has knock on affects such as memory footprint, which we would need to be conscious of and work on. Hence this feature needs to be part of a major revision, rather than through an update. I don't know of yet if this will be part of Poser 6. So, no undo function function then, if the current codebase can't handle something that simple I think we're SOL for anything *more* complicated... :) later jbThread: P6 Wishlist | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
A new library dir to store Mat's in would be nice. But I'd settle for them fixing all the bugs in P4 and P5... later jb

Thread: "DAZ|STUDIO isn't going to be competition for Poser..." | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Having worked all sides of the fence in the 20 years I've been mucking about with computers, I think we can safely surmise the following: DAZ make models, if poser goes tits-up they stuck with a shrinking market with no way to display thier goods. So they need to create some kind of app that they can give away free to show off thier buyable content. At the very least this will need some kind of industry standard renderer, the better it makes the models look, the better it serves the purposes for which it's built. Daz have stated publically that Studio will load .obj and .pz3 files, so unless you have another tool to manipulate .cr2 & .pz3 files, etc. You'll still need poser. The interface won't look like poser's if only because they could be busted for "look and feel" (copying an interface) and most people outside of "the family" think poser's interface is "quirky" if not downright unprofessional.. It will be smaller and faster, and wont do everything poser does, (and certainly not the way poser does it :) This is because it's being written from the ground up and it uses OpenGL which can be hardware accelerated. In doing so it can avoid the "cruft" that is the codebase that both CL and poser are wedded to. It won't be as easy to use as poser, (nothing is) but if they want to carry thier current user base with them it will be simpler, on a fundamental level, than most professional 3D apps, becuase what really hurt P5 was not so much that it didn't work, but that it was hard to get it to do things that didn't work. At least harder IMO, than the equivalent function in poser4. It'll be modular, (because all modern 3D programs are) and the plugins will be more complicated than the base program, because people who buy extra bits will be expecting bells and whistles, with the emphasis here on the word "buy". It will have bugs, all programs do. Whether it the second comming or a fossilised turd is something we'll only be able to tell once we get our mits on it, and then opinions will differ as to the state of the emporers clothes... :) later jb

Thread: What is the current status of Poser 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Windows 98 is still the main user OS where I work, with NT for PC servers, (most of which are of a lower spec than most modern desktops) For what it's worth, properly patched and maintained 98 is a very good, and quite stable OS. It's the only thing you can run on some old laptops with limited disk space. You can get the entire OS into about 40Mb, try that with a "supported OS" Though they are right, the 9x OS series (including Me) does have "problems" accessing more the 128Mb of memory via the OS, it's a design flaw/limitiation of the technology. But yeah, for P5, NT or XP, with lots of memory and processor power, I wouldn't want to try it on anything less. later jb
Thread: How important are custom textures in purchasing V3 characters? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well if somebody did a decent "smile" morph, or morph set that might be worth it, and by that I mean the whole face in one dial, not just the mouth. I tend to buy just the ultrarealistic textures these days like the stuff from SteffyZ and the like, Got the Daz ones, as well as one called "April" from runtime DNA. So no, textures aren't that important to me. If you're looking to pay the bills go with whimsy, Koshini & Laroo etc. are selling real well at the moment. Perhaps that's worth a look. later jb
Thread: Magical Pink Pony? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Snide remark my arse... :) Though I'm gratified to be called an "oldie" "I'm ready for my close-up now Mr DeMille" :P But yes, it did reference the fact that a lot of people got very sniffy about the fact that Legume, annoyed with having his "art" deleted from the galleries, posted sacherine sweet fluff, we all voted it to the top, (at one point he had 15 of the top 20) people left, came back again, hilarity ensued. I believe he may still be found, or at least his ghost may, (praise Bob!) at renderotica, some of us you see don't take this very seriously at all. later jb
