First, I want to thank everyone for saying nice things about us! I'm always up for discussion on this stuff, and obviously I'm around on the forums. :) Here's the challenge... It seems like there's a rumor starting through second hand information that the plugins were going to be a free upgrade. To squash this rumor before it starts, I'm offering this challenge. To the first person who can find any mention from curious labs that the 3d max plugin was going to be free after the release of Poser 5, or even a free upgrade, I will give a COMPLETELY free copy of BodyStudio 2.0. Max or Maya, their choice. On the flip side... if someone can't find the proof? I hope everyone does the right thing, since rumors like this are not fair to me, and jack, and the other people who are working hard to make sure there is a current, stable, cool plugin for 3ds max. thanks! -Josh
Thread: poser animation? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
This version of BodyStudio runs poser as an engine inside of max. So when the pz3 file is loaded, it gets stored in memory (not as a series of polygonal objects). Each time you go to a new frame, the figure will change just as if you were playing back the animation in Poser. If DarkBasic is a type of game engine, it probably would need a version of our engine that would play back the poser file inside of DarkBasic. Does the darkbasic run a game engine based on exporting bones to directx?

LOL, how'd they spell it in the old installer? :) The propack versions of the plugin don't use morphing. The object comes in as a new type of primative (poser) and then the animation will play back inside Max. But it might present the same type of problem if you're exporting to directx. The bones don't come through yet... What are the requirements for a character if you're exporting to darkbasic? cheers! -Josh

john, with the new bodystuido plugin, and the old propack, you save out a .pz3 file, and then import it as a poser primitive in max. The animation will play back. Let me know if you had wanted it to do something different? cheers! -Josh

Thanks Wolf! And on a side note I just happened to see tng s4 disk1, and noticed a reference to a certain planet that matches a certain handle :)Volfin,
it had been announced that the technology was going to be made to work with Poser 5. I think it's a misconception that these were going to be given away.
here's all the announcements from Curious Labs on the topic since the release of Poser 5. These are all from the newsletter announcements, and the press releases available in the "Press" section of the CL website.
from January 14th e-mail: "Curiosities quenched, the up-to-the-minute information from Curious Labs"
Poser 5 Pro Pack Update
*** Curious Labs is currently updating the Pro Pack for Poser 4 to work with

Poser 5 Plug-in Development Underway
Currently Reiss-Studio has been working on development of Poser plug-ins for
professional 3D applications beginning with Maya and 3D Studio Max. Pixels
Digital is currently working on Poser plug-in support for their Pixels 3D
program. Additional plug-in development is being planned which will include
products favored by many Poser users. We will keep you updated on the
progress of this plug-in development.
from March 15th Press Release: "Curious Labs Announces Restructuring Plans"
Partnerships
New strategic partnerships with independent developers have been completed to enable the advancement of Poser and its other products, including the expansion and improvement of new versions, updates and plug-ins. Larry Weinberg, the original creator of Poser will be focusing on further enhancing the Macintosh and Windows versions of Poser while beginning to develop new products with Curious Labs.
Two other important new partnerships with Curious Labs that took place include Josh Reiss of Reiss Studio and Andrew Bryant of Pixels Digital Inc. Details of other partnerships will be announced at a later date.
Reiss Studio will be working on development of Poser plug-ins for professional 3D applications beginning with Maya and 3D Studio Max. Reiss Studio, founded by Josh Reiss, a 10 year veteran of computer graphics who has worked on such projects as the Hollow Man, and Monsters Inc. Josh Reiss, CEO of Reiss Studio says, Its a very exciting time to be involved with Curious Labs as a professional 3D user and as a company. The models, textures and characters coming out of the Poser community are of the quality that could be dropped into a commercial project. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver professional tools for bringing Poser content into high-end 3D applications. Maya and Max are just the beginning.
Pixels Digital Inc., the makers of Pixels 3D will be working to add support to Poser plug-ins for the Pixels 3D program. Andrew Bryant, President and CEO of Pixels Digital said, We are delighted to be able to work with Curious Labs. Soon, Poser users will be able to work with our Pixels 3D software. This will only widen and enhance the quality of artwork being created in both Poser and Pixels 3D.
And today's e-mail announced the developed plugins.
As Wolf said... technically we're not bound, but there's no way I'd let the plugins out without also offering the serious discount upgrade price for propack users.
Hopefully people will be happy that we're throwing some serious support behind the plugins :)
cheers!
-Josh

Hi Ray! We just released 2 weeks ago, so we don't have any magazine reviews yet (these usually take a few months from sending them the software) we should have some soon. In the meantime, if you search this site, the user reviews have been very encouraging for all of us. cheers, -Josh

Hi Jeff! cool movie. hey, the thing with the figure looking through the clothing could be a clipping plane issue. If you set the near clipping plane, and far clipping plane a little closer together it can solve that problem. Usually it takes 1 decimal place to resolve an issue (so if your near clip is at .01, try setting it to .1, strangely enough this will have the same benefit as if you changed the far clip from 10,000 down to 1,000) the way it works is that when max goes to render, it checks based on depth which objects are closer. if max has too much distance between the near and far clipping plane, then it thinks objects that are closer together are actually in the same spot and doesn't know which to render in front. looking forward to more images! cheers, -JoshThread: Close Up | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Hey Tbird! great images :) if you havn't alreasy sent over a support request, please do. If we can get a sample of your scene, we treat any scene that doesn't load as a bug, and we'll do what we can to fix it asap. cheers! -JoshThread: Poser 5 Pro Pack Upgrade Now Available for 3ds Max | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Ray! the press release just went out last week, so it will probably be a month or two until the reviews start showing up. We did get strong reviews for our first product (the maya plugin). I'm looking forward to the review of our new products as well. If you do a search here for reiss, you'll see a lot of people are saying good things about the new plugins. here's the thread where we first announced, and there's a few users there who have used the plugin: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1284938 cheers! -Josh
