LCB - thanks for your input. I was just trying your method of creating a plane in Carrara, applying ripple to it and displacing, then exporting as an .obj or .3ds into Vue. However, when the plane is imported into Vue all I get is a flat plane - somehow the ripple/displacement isn't showing up, even when I render. I'm obviously missing something in the process. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Thanks Fixer...have just tried your idea of using a terrain and see it has potential. Have attached a very quick render...the ripples/disturbance can obviously be improved upon by spending more time on creating a satisfactory terrain and using a better material. But the idea seems sound enough.

How odd! The last posting to this thread, despite it saying it's by me, is NOT by me!! I've never been a moderator and have no idea what the post is about! Can anyone explain how someone's post can be 'mis-attributed' to a different person?? All very strange!

I've printed a few Poser pics and they come out very well....I assume when you render your images in Poser you change the default dpi setting of 72 to something much higher...I usually go for 300 dpi or even higher. Obviously this will increase render times, but is necessary to avoid pixelation as the default 72 dpi is only really intended for screen display and not printing.

The reason Moderators generally hold back on opinions or don't get involved in arguments is to avoid people thinking they are biased one way or the other. I'm generally moderate on most political issues, but when I was coordinator in the Den, I was variously accused of being a bleeding-heart liberal, a "Busheep", a "fundie", I was accused of being biased both for and against Christianity, so I figure it's better to just hold back and avoid all the hassle.

I was wondering what the main differences were too between the Pro and standard version. Why would you still need the Poser Transposer plugin if Carrara 5 now supposedly imports Poser files (.pz3, .cr2 )? Just wondering...

Have just downloaded Hexagon successfully...after all the tales of horrrendous download times I was going to wait till early in the morning to start the download (when the USA is asleep!), but couldn't resist trying now. Anyway, took me 1h26m....and the serial number was waiting for me in an email. Looks like DAZ have maybe increased their available bandwidth to take account of the increased demands on their servers.

Thanks for your help...I tried importing the pz3 rather than the .obj and...fingers crossed so far...it seems to work ok. At least there aren't any odd meshes or banding in the textures. I also increased the smoothing angle to 80 in Vue ( someone suggested this matches Poser's setting ). Here's my latest render of the above scene...much better. Thanks for your help again.
