My first car ever was a '74.  My second was a '78.
IÂ haven't ever had a digital model of them, but I agree it would be neat to have.
Thread: How long for Vue 6 payment validation? | Forum: Vue
Thanks everyone, for the info.
Guess I'll just have to wait it out... grumble.
Word of advice to anyone hoping to get Vue quickly and play with it on a weekend... Don't bother ordering it on a Friday. sigh
Thread: Are ALL Poser users cat lovers? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Wow... this thread is so long I dunno if anyone is reading all the way thru it anymore... but, in case anyone cares, I too have two cats, Rocky and Bullwinkle... who are no relation but were same-day rescues from the pound --  I got two of them to keep each other company, as others have mentioned here.  One's a Morris-like ginger and the other is a handsome black-and-yellow-tigerstripe. I'd show a photo, but they both skitter away from cameras, so my only pictures are of them asleep in fuzzy balls.
I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who is allergic to cats or who simply doesn't like them, because I think they are probably the most personality-filled pets on the planet and a true gift of God to mankind.   Cats know who is and who isn't a "cat person", and can show genuine affection like nothing else in the world.  Many is the day I have been at the computer with one cat asleep on my lap and the other competing with my mouse-hand for space.   I'm glad the "delete" button always brings up an "are you sure" confirm window, because they step on the delete button (and lots of other keys) with frightening consistency.  Maybe they're telling me my art is insufficiently feline.
Thread: At the risk of another debate... | Forum: Vue
My obviously erroneous assumption was that the amount and variety of quality content available would be considerable (and not just trees, that was an example). Now that I'm hearing this was mistaken too, I'm even more disappointed than I was originally. While I like the program's overall capabilities, I'm still feeling like I've been bait-and-switched in terms of content. I thought that the free trial content was purposefully limited, and the full version would have more; I acknowledge it's partly my fault for having high expectations, but that doesn't help the frustration much. I just hope E-on steps up to the plate and takes all this as important consumer feedback.
Thread: Poser and ZBrush | Forum: Poser Technical
Both programs read and write .obj format files, so yes, all prop-type things can be transferred. There are lots of threads in Pixologic's ZBrushCentral forum about using Zbrush with Poser. The only thing you can't do is expect a complete figure made in Zbrush to pop into poser already "boned". You'd still have to do that part in Poser's setup room; but Zbrush is excellent for making poser morph targets for existing figures.
Thread: Poser 5 materials room filename reference bugs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My number one hope (likely to be futile) for Poser 6 is that it includes complete python access to the P5 materials room (as well as more complete tested support and working samples for all their python methods in general, including robust OS calls to full file pathnames and customizable shorthand references to them). Not only would that solve in general the problems brought up in this thread, it would open a whole new world of opportunity to 3rd party product designers AND artistic end users. The fact that CL seems to have any kind of poser python module enhancements at the bottom of their to-do list is what makes me fear that flying pigs will be knocking the icicles off hell's furnace vents before we see this implemented. --
Thread: Search templates for P5-charakters | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My thought on templates (and only regarding templates) is this: Even if the copyright to the template is exclusively Curious Labs' they are NOT likely to mind the free distibution of templates. My reasoning? (1) They offer templates as a free download on the same pages that commercial models are sold on their sites. (2) You need to buy the model for the template to be of any real worth (or in this case, you need to buy P5). (3) If they give the templates away, people will use them to make textures from them, and either sell or give away these textures. People will see these textures in use on the model, see the increased possibilities of the model, and be more likely to go buy the model -- it's essentially good advertising for the base model. If anyone from CL wants to affirm or refute this, I'd be glad to hear it -- this is just my personal business intuition at work. ---
Thread: What is the best size texture map for poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Some more advice yet: How close is each object going to be to your camera and are you going to be using depth of field so that distant (or extremely close) objects will be blurry? Those objects can and should have lower resolution textures to save on rendering power, since high detail on them will be wasted overkill. Next: I don't know for sure about poser's rendering engine, but almost all the others I've worked with are "happiest" in terms of efficiency with textures that are square and in the "magical" powers of two (256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, 2048x2048, 4096x4096, etc.) You can enter other values, but I'm fairly sure the rendering engine will round off and interpolate to the nearest power of two, which can also be wasteful to you in terms of time and detail if your selected rez if far off from one of these. (Again, not positive about poser's renderer, jusr renderers in general.)
Thread: Fence and gate for pasture... anywhere? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There are low-rez freebie "split rail" fences (like the open range countryside) out there somewhere, too. Wish I could recall where to help you, but I know they exist.
Thread: Existing Props Manipulator Script :) | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
I agree that many many IK chains would probably explode. it would be interesting to see how many it could handle though. I have some possible product ideas for the sliding cell matrix concept I'll work on and get back to you about... ---
Thread: Existing Props Manipulator Script :) | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
Couldn't we just animate the xyz pos of the wheat "grain" and let the stalk beneath it move with chained IK? Or does that not work in poser? Haven't tried -- mostly animate in Maya or Max. It just sounds like you're trying to wave wheat from the root upwards with rotations, and that's the reverse of what I was thinking. For overall movement pattern-making, how about laying out a 3 dimensional matrix of cells containing positive and negative vector values, and then sliding the whole matrix through space (at any vector you want): You apply each cell's vector modification values to nearby objects accordingly. (The individual cell values in the matrix don't change, but their area of effect moves, producing a consistent movement pattern.) The matrix wouldn't have to be any bigger than the bounding box of an object (or group of objects) you wanted to affect, and you could modify the cell sizes to optimize it. New values could be randomly generated (according to user parameters of magnitude for control over "turbulence") for the matrix's "leading edge" as it moved, and the trailing edge values could be dumped. (A really clever algorithm could omit known "empty space" area calculations to save time, too...) Again, more babbling, but you got ME thinking... - - - -
Thread: Existing Props Manipulator Script :) | Forum: Poser Python Scripting
How hard would it be to modify the interface to include a window for period & wavetype and use the offset value as an amplitude? And maybe a checkbox to randomly offset the phase of each object's period if there are multiple selections? Or maybe just a math function accepting window for periodic motions? Do I need any/all of this at this moment? No. Am I babbling possibilities out loud? Yes. (Snow storms, asteroid fields, wind swaying grass in fields....) Could I code it myself? Probably, but it would also take me about a thousand times longer than Ockham's Miracle Poser Python Code Generator, which he has implanted deep within his amazing brain... Is he already working on / completed something even better than what I was trying to articulate? Undoubtedly, I just hope I catch the post that tells me when and where to download it. ---

Thread: Why I can't (won't) buy the Mil Big Cat | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Everyone's throwing their 2 cents into this thread, I might as well, too: Disclosure: I do not work for or sell at DAZ. I am a DAZ platinum club member, and I don't feel like I've been cheated at all. I have a lot of stuff from their $1.99 deals (and frequent sales and discounts) that I think were WELL worth the money. I also have purchased plenty of high quality models there (with my discounts) that I have no complaints about. I don't think there's any reason for people to be needlessly dumping on DAZ in a generalized sense, since it's clearly been a boon to the poser community at large. Having said that, I did buy the Mil Big Cat, and I admit I am disappointed with it. I hadn't been previously aware of Lynne's animals (and now that I've seen I'm very glad to know they are available, since I do buy stuff from many different sources). I hope and wish that DAZ would take a careful look at their BigCat and offer some serious morph upgrading and options to buyers for free, if for no other reason than to restore their good name in terms of quality -- where I think the consensus is pretty obvious here that the BigCat slipped through as a "not quite ready for prime time" release. I also hope that this whole situation will continue to encourage DAZ product artists to redouble their efforts in a committment to quality and realism that their customers clearly value. ---
Thread: Rendering a scene in layers - shadows and raytracing? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, regarding Rubermatt's comment on compositing and raytraced reflections, I've managed to do lots of neat tricks by making copied layers of the beauty passes of object renders, flipping or flopping them, messing with their size, distortion, and transluceny, and then blending them back into the inside of the alpha outline of the object they are supposed to be reflected into -- SO -- comp tricks can in fact, take care of some reflection issues as well as shadows (inverted and modified "reflections" of people standing on shiny floors or rippling ponds come to mind, both of which I've often done as a 2D trick rather than a raytrace render). It all just depends on how clever you want to get with your compositing tricks and how much time you need to save by omitting raytrace in your complex render passes. --- Thanks for the mat link, BTW -- that's a great and useful material. --
