You are right. I did a bit of playing around with loosening the fit inside VF so the clothing was slightly further away from the body, and the simulation time went way down.
So for those who are having simulation time problems, it appears to be a result of the default fit being a bit too close to the body. Loosen the fit and the improvement can be dramatic.

Quote - See my post here, I finally got rid of the long sim times
Not sure how you got rid of long sim times from the tutorial link you supplied. There is really nothing there useful in optimizing the sim time. I've gone through all those steps and the recommended steps in the pdf for setting up the cloth room sim, and I'm still getting sim times between 212 to 580 seconds per frame.
I do note that one should use the lower res versions of the Poser figures when doing the simulation as that does definitely have an impact on sim times. But it doesn't eliminate the problem.
That said, the cloth items are already properly draped for the figure when you export from VF and import to Poser, so if one wanted to take a shot at converting to a conforming figure rather than doing a cloth sim, that would work fairly well.

Thread: Evaluating Poser for use in creating DirectX game objects | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There have been several other threads posted on this subject that can provide better detail on the pros and cons of the subject, but there is overall one key point that you need to take into account, and that is not the high polycount of the Poser models. Most Poser models are licensed for use in stills and animations. You may not redistribute the models without the prior approval of the original content creator, nor can you redistribute modifications (such as reduced resolution versions). There are some free models out there that may make an acceptable base from which you can work. One such example would be the Project Human figures which exist under an open source license. But other figures, such as the DAZ figures and the stock figures that come with Poser are out of bounds for such modification and redistribution, whether in .X format or otherwise. Such restrictions are not limited to the human figures alone, but also apply to the clothing articles as well. You may find some free items that are not restricted as such, but the majority will not be redistributable, even in modified form. There are a few games that have worked around such limitations by rendering images and animation frames inside Poser and converting these images to animated 2D sprites. I've even seen one that somehow manages to cleverly mask those 2D sprites such that they look nearly 3D. Something like that seems to fit well within the licenses of the commercial figures. There are other options available on the market, however. For example, there are a couple of DarkMatter content packs from The Game Creators which are already in .X format (though they are of very low quality) which may be used in your own project without restriction. There are also more and more content packs becomming available at sites such as GarageGames that can be of downright stunning quality. Perhaps not on the level of Poser, but then, by the time you reduce an 80K poly model to about 3K polys for use in a game, it won't be of the quality level of Poser anylonger either :) Hope this info is of use.
Thread: POOR MAN'S ANIMATOR - Can I rent a Full Motion Video Capture Room ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, by the very definition of the word "animation", it is indeed animation. animation Pronunciation Key (n-mshn) n. 1. The act, process, or result of imparting life, interest, spirit, motion, or activity. Maybe it's not traditional animation, but if were going to be purists about it...

Hmm, this looks interesting, as well. And not that expensive, comparatively speaking. No idea how well it works, though.Thread: POOR MAN'S ANIMATOR - Can I rent a Full Motion Video Capture Room ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

If you're interested in purchasing some pre-packaged motion capture, take a look at Credo Interactive's products, specifically their Mega Mocap 2 bundles. Of course, you'll always be limited to what you can do with pre-made motion capture, but it's a good start.Thread: Apollo Maximus UTC plugin poll now running at 3DUniverse | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

On the subject of effects and Star Wars, I've been rather blown away by the talent that went into a recently released 47 minute fanfic, Revelations. The acting isn't the best, but it is all volunteer and isn't exactly terrible. And the graphics work is simply incredible for all volunteer effort. And as a tie in to Poser ... on their making of DVD I even noticed Poser 4 characters in some of their storyboarding work. lol.Thread: Face room: Are there any plug-in for V3? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
See my post above, that image is from the David unimesh figure. Haven't figured out an easy way to transfer the morphs between figures. And keep in mind that it doesn't work with the DAZ figures directly. You need both the FaceGen modeler AND the customizer products to do so.

I have both FaceGen Modeler and the Customizer. It does a very good job. The attached image is a conversion of a friend's photo (original top left) to the DAZ David model using FaceGen and the Customizer. It isn't perfect as I did not take the time to fit the David mesh as close to the FaceGen mask as I should have, but the resemblance is definitely there.

That looks a lot like my Halloween costume back when I was 11 or so. Course, I wrapped tin foil around my boxes.

You mentioned that you have Motionbuilder 5. At the attached link is a tutorial (nudity in the tutorial images) that provides instructions for exporting the rigging for any model in Poser into Motionbuilder. You can then export a Motionbuilder animation to a bvh file that is specific to your particular Poser figure. Works great! This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience.
