Unfortunately, yes I know :( . Most of my fave hairstyles do, including the two for my go to characters- DAZ gel hair and Koz Ponytail. I have tried several to get rid of burnt-in highlights but failed miserably.

Looking at the coloured hair maybe I should try hooking the texture map into the specular

I can be impatient so not being able to see a proper preview is very frustrating for me. After Ghostship pointed out my mistake about SSS I saw your post that mentioned using no specular and roughness only. I gave it a try but it didn't look right so I added a little specular.
A couple more examples with less specular and a higher roughness. Lighting is a single area ight

If room is very tight then you can get away with installing only the main Poser file. A downside is the User Manual PDF is in the support files. You cannot add them in isolation you must re-install Poser at the same time. I've not found a download for the P11 manual PDF- can this be made available here (serial number required)?

This has been an interesting thread and has taught me a lot. I'd love to see a sister thread about SSS for Hair Using the PSR

If you're running multiple runtimes you could try de-selecting them one at a time to see if narrows down the problem.
Also, as above, check for re-indexing (Edit/General preferences/Library)

If you're a Windows user you can right click over any item or folder and get an Open In Explorer... option. This opens File Explorer in which you can see an address bar and folder tree. Currently the only way to delete an unwanted folder.

I've not had chance to read all the posts so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned. A native Linux version of Poser for those of us wanting to escape the MS or Apple ecosystem. A biggie I know but you did ask

Hey, isn't that one of the drones that shut down Gatwick airport????

my defaults are in my P11 program folder: Poser 11/Runtime/prefs/RenderPresets/SuperFly
have you tried launching to factory scene in general prefs? if still no joy maybe you need to reinstall.....
D'oh! Nice find.
Unfortunately forums and messaging don't allow text files to be attached else I'd ZIp them all in one go. I'll copy and paste the text to each one in site mail for you to C+P . I use Notepad ++ for file editing

I was a wild idea to save some typing. I've just tried to display them in render settings but can't get them listed for a screen grab :(

You don't say if you're Windows or Mac user.
This may work for Windows.
Open File Explorer Tools drop down and Folder Options... View tab and enable Show Hidden Files and Folders
Navigate to the Users/ yourusername/ Appdata/Roaming/PoserPro/11/Renderpresets folder Any custom Render settings are saved here and possibly your modified default presets. If so then delete one, start poser and see if it works.
For a Mac I can only suggest looking for the PoserPro folder and trying the above

Thread: POSES – Can I edit a pose to remove the x y z movement / translation? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical
I also edit pose files to change a flat footed pose to one wearing heels (normally female!!). You have to pose the feet and toes manually then raise the hip to get the figure to the floor to get the bend angles and hip ytran (in Poser units). I normally use Save As and copy the icon to keep both version

I use NotePad+ for editing poses and materials- it's free and scrolls through large files quicker than MS Notepad or Write. There are keyboard shortcuts to move quickly through the document and to select large chunks
I use the Show In Explorer from within Poser (windows only) to open the folder. You will need to delete the section at the top (about 50 lines) from actor BODY:1 down to the three closing brackets after the translatez ztran section, Save when done OR Save As with a slightly modded filename. Copy and Paste the old Icon and rename to match the new pose.
