Singular, as stewer suggested, be sure and check out RDNA's Poser 5 forum and search for their Material Room "node by node" threads. There's an incredible amount of information there that has greatly helped me. The folks there are very helpful and knowledgable regarding P5.
Oh and enjoy! You are in for a rare treat exploring all P5's material room has to offer. Just be patient while gettng a handle on all the nodes and their specific functions. In time, I'm sure you'll begin to see all the options available!

Thread: importing from Poser into Bryce 5 using G5 MAC OS X | Forum: Bryce

zoran, out of curiosity, what exactly are you trying to import into B5? I just did a test run and had no problem importing a V3 figure with hair from P5 into B5. When exporting your figure from Poser 5, make sure that you have the following checked in your export box: - include body part names - include figure names - weld bodypart seamsOnce your figure(s) are imported into B5, you still have some work to do. Supposedly DAZ's Bryce Turbo importer eases this import, but you have to use it after exporting from Poser to Daz Studio (currently free at DAZ's site as it's in beta). then use the turbo import to get it into Bryce. From what I've read, it does import the most of the texture maps correctly, but I still just export from P5 directly to B5. This does entail some work. Depending on the complexity of the figure(s) you have imported, you'll have some textures to correct (clothing, lashes, hair, eye corneas, etc.) and transparencies to blend via Bryce's mat lab.
I'm attaching a link to Robin Wood's tutorial on exporting from Poser to Bryce. Although written for P4 and B4, you can still use most of the techniques, especially once in B5.
Otherwise, you can go to DAZ's BryceTalk forum and look for the link to download their free turbo importer. You'll also need to download their Daz Studio and their should be a link in their Poser forums.
Hang in there. It's not as complicated as you think, just time consuming. But as with all applications, it does get easier with practice, I hope this helps!

Zoren, although I haven't yet had a chance to give this a try since purchasing my new G5 2.5ghz dual desktop computer, nor have I tried DAZ's turbo importer, I'm wondering about something. On my G4 Titanium, I always have to create a folder (usually on my desktop), export the Poser .obj to this folder as well as every single material used (figure, clothing, hair, etc.) or B5 will up and quit just before completing the import. If you are not using this method, perhaps it will be worth a try?
Apologies in advance that I haven't yet had a chance to try it myself or be able to currently offer more help. Perhaps someone else here will be able to.
Arry EDITED to add: cross posting, lol. He is right, anything dynamic will not import into B5.

Jim, thanks for the benchmark link. I've definitely noticed a huge speed increase running P5 since upgrading from a G4 Titanium powerbook with 800mhz and 1 gig RAM to my desktop G5 dual 2.5 ghz and 1.5 gig RAM.
Your download link worked fine for me and it will be interesting to see what the benchmarks show!

Hi Carolly,I never have used MacInstaller (I install manually - must be nuts, lol!), but to use MacConverter, I have to use Classic mode. I really wish Martin would consider creating an OSX version as this is the only application I use Classic for. I even tried writing him once and offering to pay for an OSX version as well as spread the word to other OSX users. Unfortunately, I never heard back.
But recently, I purchased Poser5 for Mac Converter right here in the RMP by fmorgan. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet due to my crazy work schedule, but it is OSX native so I'm hoping I can make use out of it. The reviews from other Mac users were good so I decided to buy it. I'll include a link in case you're interested in checking it out.
I do know of one Mac user who uses MacInstaller in classic mode with no problems. For some reason, I never could get it to work properly as it kept asking for an older version of Poser which I've never had. I only have P5.
What I can say, is that the difference between using Classic and OSX for me, has been amazing. Believe me, I fought it for quite awhile, lol. but once I made the jump and gave myself a chance to learn OSX, I never looked back. It's incredibly stable, fast and well organized. I love the column view format where you can jump quickly to whatever folder or application you want. There's other things I've grown to love about OSX, but that's one of my favs. It's very user friendly and just makes sense. Besides, I don't think many developers are supporting the older OS's, so it was time to move with the times.
I hope this helps and I'd highly recommend upgrading!

P5 ran much faster then I expected on my Titanium G4 with 800mhz and 1 gig of RAM. But my jaw dropped at the change to my G5 2.5ghz dual with 1.5 gig RAM. Bryce 5 as well. Although I've been told that many of the 3D companies haven't yet taken advantage of the 64 bit technology, the speed increase for me definitely warranted remaining on a Mac. Guess I just like being a rebel. ;)

Have B5 and Panther 10.3.6. Although my processor would constantly run while B5 was open on my Titanium G4 with 800mhz, on my new computer, a G5 dual with 2.5 ghz processor speed, it's much better. I've only had the new computer for about a week so haven't yet had a chance to fully stretch its legs and test things out. I did notice that launching B5 cycled up my processor but once started, all quieted down. It will be interesting to see how the G5 handles volumetrics, etc. All I can say for sure is that the increase in processor speed has blown my mind. :)

Here, here Dave! I simply cannot compare one to the other. They are both exceptional examples of what can be done in the hands of a skilled artist with scads of creative vision. I was equally impressed with both BT's and frog's versions. I just hope no one blows over your toothpick version, Dave. ;)
Great work from all of you. I am in awe at both your artistry and patience.
I am doubly in awe that none of you went in insane. Or did you?

Agree with Dan. Zip files are never a problem for me to open. It's the .exe files that I can't do a thing with. Mahray - thanks for asking. As a Mac user it's always nice to be included and be able to use what folks are offering be it free or for buying. ;-) Arry
