Well, I guess that answers my question. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge about an upgrade for Bryce allowing importing Poser animations into it. I know that Vue Esprit 4 does, but I kinda like Bryce and don't want to have to buy yet another program. I have purchased Susanna, but am having problems figuring it out; no doubt yet another fine example of my limitless ineptitude. (Don't worry joke, I'm not blaming you; I know full well that it works 'cause I've seen it, and it's awesome...) I was just hoping that someone has heard that something is coming down the pipe. Soon. Now back to that Susanna PDF...
Thread: DAZ Purchases Mimic from LIPS Inc. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Wow... this week has been too great! First Eugenius points me in the direction of "Susanna" which allows me to import Poser animations into Bryceland, (under 50 bucks) and now I have purchased Mimic with Daz's special pricing (also under 50 bucks.) I'm sorta hoping that I don't learn about any more great deals here in the Renderosity Poser forum; I don't know that I can afford any more happiness - I know that my wife says that I can't...

Thank you again Eugenius for the link. It was payday today :) and I just ordered Susana. I haven't been a snooper here long, (a couple of weeks) as I just ordered the P4-Propack last week.(Have LW 6.5). I've never heard of Susanna before but the price is great, and the animation samples at their site look pretty good to me. I sure like Bryce's ability to generate beautiful landscapes (of course) and know that one of the main wishes of many in this forum is the ability to import Poser animations into it. Does anyone have opinions on or experience with Susanna? Thanks;

Thanks for the link, I've never heard of this before, and only $50.00! Gonna order it tomorrow (payday). About the same price as a case of beer and a Happy Meal at McDonalds here in Canada. (well, maybe a little bit more.) I've been downloading sample clips for the last hour or so. Hopefully a Mac version is in the works for you Mac people, or CL revises the plug in options when the dust settles. (You're right Barbarellany, I haven't seen anything commital yet either.) Fingers crossed for updates... Thanks again Eugenius, if I find anthing I'll update you... krimpr.

Hello Eugenius; To the best of my knowledge it (unfortunately) can't be done. I know that CL P5 will have the ability to plug into other 3d software some time soon, but into which programs (specifically) has not yet been revealed. The poser Pro Pack enables importing into Lightwave, C4DXL, and 3D Studio Max, but not Bryce. You are not alone in wanting to be able to do that. What is, and where can I find out more about Suzanna? P.C. user here.........

Using Amapi does have it's virtues; just check out some of Brycetech's modeling. It seems to me that Amapi is the silent, gifted orphan somehow. If buying Shamm's book has any redeeming element, it is that it includes an older version of Amapi on the CD. (4.15 or something). I upgraded to V. 6 because it is kinda neat. In LW you can't select an edge of an object and radius it, for example, so I often export .obj into Amapi, radius, and then reimport into LW. I find they interface really goofy, but it certainly is surprising how well it works. Brycetech has a tutorial CD on Renderosity for $10.00 or $12.00 and I'm going to pick it up soon. If only the interface didn't bug me so much....

Eric... If I knew that I could give .5 stars I would have; I unwittingly overrated him at 1 star. I am also a LW Newbie (v. 6.5) but if you would like to buy books that ARE good, Dan Ablan's "Inside Lightwave" would be my #1, followed closely by "Lightwave Applied" 6.5/7.0 By Dave Jerrard, Joe Tracy and Jennifer Hachigan. I haven't gotten through them all yet, (poor self discipline) but you can't go wrong with them. "Inside Lightwave" gets into subpatch modeling and such, as well as extensive texturing, etc. I like Patrick's book because it gives you a bit of a "tour" of the different functions, which is fun and gives you ideas, I agree with you.

Right now I'm about to learn the software, so I haven't really been concerned with projects quite yet. (I just ordered P4 and Pro Pack on Saturday.) I bought Lightwave back in March, and bought Poser to tie into it. If I do buy any more stock footage, I will be looking for things with industrial content, as I want to make short clips to promote the small equipment manufacturing company I'm a partner in. I've been collecting short automotive assembly line shots to illustrate various procedures, and want to use LW to demonstrate equipment concepts and use Poser to provide the various workers at workstations. There doesn't seem to be alot of high quality footage available, but then again for my purposes I don't really want to spend alot, either. I just keep my eyes and ears open...

Some of it is pretty good. I don't have alot of money to spend as a rule, but there was one collection that was called "time image" or something like that. It was $65.00 U.S. (I am from Canada) and is about an hour long if I remember correctly. It has some neat time lapse images of skies, cities, water, etc., but you can get pretty much anything. I think I've purchased 3 different ones from different sellers and can't complain; it would take alot of time to film all of this stuff yourself, for sure. I always have bought miniDV and captured it with Adobe Premiere, and worked with it from there. A good word of advise is to check the feedback of the seller and see the comments left by previous purchasers. I always pay by international money order, and only buy from sellers that have a positive feedback history. Have fun!

Hello LordsWarrior, If I understand your idea correctly, it's a good one but unfortunately has been done. For a relatively low cost, you can buy the background scenes from $19.00 up to thousands on ebay under the description "stock footage". Almost any imaginable movie background available on CDRom, MiniDV, Pal and NTSC video,- you name it. $60.00 gets you 90 minutes of some stuff, and some of the quality is not bad at all. (in my non-professional opinion.) I don't know how you would track it, but the idea is great!

Hey Anthony... good luck with the Sci-Fi book, and congrats for hanging in there with the new P5 manual.
With all due respect, (and I mean that sincerely) I tend to agree with gryffnn. His example of Dan Ablan's "Inside Lightwave" being commended for being an extremely worthwhile book points to a willingness to praise good work as well as be critical of work that isn't as useful, our flame awful efforts. (Cases in point: Shamms Mortier insert title here) The notion that if we, as purchasers can do a better job compiling a manual for any given program we should publish our own misses the mark. We are buying the books because we presumably (at least in my case) do not have a working knowledge of the program and are actively seeking it. Chances are that if I felt I had sufficient knowledge of a program, I would not be be purchasing introduction handbooks at all. In fact, in Mr. Mortiers case, his publications actually do a disservice to the software they represent by not providing any useful information for users to constructivly explore it's true potential. People buy these books with perfectly good money expecting help, and they should get it. I am a CG newbie. My graphical explorations bite, and bite quite badly. But I will not misreprepresent myself and publish a book. In my opinion, neither should he. Posting opinions is one way to to help form a consensus to assist others make an informed decision before opening their wallet. Just another opinion, with no disrespect to your statement.

In defence of the Charles River Media Graphics series, I do have one of their series (Lightwave 6.5/7.0 project handbook) that I actually have gotten alot out of and has really done a good job of introducing me to the program. However, it is by Patrick Beck, not Mr. Mortier. In the back of the book is an offer to join a graphics resource club which includes 39 online pdf tutorials anually for LW, Poser, Bryce, Carrara, Illustrator, plus one free book a year and was considering it until I read that it was affiliated with Mr. Mortier. He apparantly does a monthly newsletter and I was fearful that the tutorials also may have been done by him so I am steering clear. (already was burned by one of his awful "works".) So as Charles River Media may be making money from uninformed victims purchasing Mortiers books, it is also costing them money through "guilt by association".
