Quote - Rendering AO takes away from the realism, unfortunately. Use it sparingly. The lighting you use is 50% of the realism. The rest is the polygon model itself and the material you've applied.
I say keep at it though. Art is easy to do. Just look at all the 5-star ratings people get here for a couple minutes effort. Realism is a challenge that is for more rewarding.
Thank you for that. I didn't want to think that I was expending a lot of energy on nothing. To be quite honest, I am just trying to get past the look of a lot of the 3D rendered stuff I have seen out there as far as animation. I am trying to animate a full-length movie that I am writing. So the results I am getting are close to what I want to achieve. I have a lot more to do before I am completely happy with it (are we ever happy with what we create???).

Quote - Hey LaurieA... me neither... Poser I think was not designed for realism
I've seen some pretty close renders on here that were done with Poser and looked pretty good. And if you look at the skin textures for Poser 7 and 8 models, their skin is real, so, like Laurie said, lighting and other factors can get me where I want to be: above the cartoon look. My main goal is to animate, so I am working on doing that without using BVH, or other mocap. I get better results without the wierd artifacts if I work frame by frame.

Quote - There's a lot you can do to improve your renders. I'm not sure what version of Poser you're using, but Poser 8/Pro has IDL. For P8 and other versions there is Bagginsbill's VSS which will greatly improve the look of skin. Lighting is also always key. You could also try IBL lighting. It can be extremely difficult to get photoreal results in Poser, but some have gotten very, very close :o). But those are a select few and I do not include myself in that group either...lol. Laurie
I am using Poser 8, and I am experimenting with IDL, AO and using indirect lighting. I am getting better results now, but I know I have a long way to go. I am just happy with the results so far, as they are miles ahead of what I was doing just a couple months ago.

I am working on getting Blender to do what I want it to. I am still using Poser 8 and still learning it. I guess there is just so much to the program that I haven't even touched yet, that I won't be upgrading even if I could...

Quote - Looked at the Gallery lately? Most Poser renders are portraits, or pinups, or NVIATWAS.
Heck, when Medusa for V4 came out, I was looking forward to all the awesome pics
I'd see, and what did we get? Portraits, Pinups, and NMIATWAS. Many people do
renders of everyday living in either today's setting, or scifi, or fantasy. Many don't
post those types of images because they get mostly ignored. I did see a pair of nice
action renders with Medusa, but on the whole, it was disappointing. Those are the
"Gallery" type renders.
And I do like the Poser figures, they're just not as easily morphable as the DAZ line.

Quote - Aeilkema, you are quite correct. The stuff I do with the G2 figures is not gallery material, but necessary for me anyway.
I am the same. I have posted about 9 pics in the gallery that were 'noteworthy' of the place. I have probably 1200 renders that I wouldn't post there because they are 'boring'. And a lot of what I do is in preparation for a major undertaking of animating a full-length film, which is why I bought Poser in the first place. So I do test renders and short animations to see what works, and to learn the program. After a year with it, I've just barely scratched the surface. What BB and the others do with it is lightyears ahead of my skill and understanding. But I am getting there.
And I posted a pic with Sydney that I feel fits the bill. I think she is the easiest to use, and if you do her hair and the lighting right, she is stunning to look at.

I don't own anything but the poser figures that came with Poser 8. I am probably the only one who doesn't like V4. I have her base, but can't purchase anything else for her, so to me, she's almost useless. I can do a lot with the included Poser figures. And I happen to really like using Sydney. I also get a lot of milage out of Alyson, Ryan, and Simon.

Just my two cents, but one of the first things I did when I got poser was loaded a female model and spun the camera around to see what I could see.
And some of my first renders were nudes because I couldn't figure out dynamic clothing.
It's a phase we probably all went through.

I am looking for a High Res morph. I have a few pictures of her on my laptop. I'll post one in here, so you can see what I am looking for. She's from the Philippines.

Which version of Poser are you using?
In Poser 8, there is a check box in the properties menu named "Animate". Un-checking that will keep the camera in the same position it was in at frame 1.

Thread: which file type? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Zips are faster and easier to open than .exe. But it really doesn't matter. I never install anything directly to my runtime folders anyway. I have a dummy folder on my desk top where I unzip or install each poser package too so that I can go through the contents, sort, move and rename things before I move it all to the runtime folder.
I do things pretty much the same way. Except that most of the time, I don't do much renaming. Unless it's a file name like #!!!livingdolldress!!!!. Then I'll rename it.

Google SOUNDDOGS.COM. The sound bytes on there are for sale, but you can preview them. All you need to do to download the preview is right click it. They have a HUGE collection of sound fx, speech; you name it.

Thread: How to create a sitting pose for a cloth figure? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - > Quote - Just wondering why it won't run through the cloth room?
Two different conforming dresses I tried that fit the theme of the scene.
One the hem trim is not attached to the skirt portion and drops away. The collar is sitting on the shoulders, around the neck and not attached and drops away and the cuffs or caps on the end of the sleeves are literally tubes and not attached to the sleeve of the dress and drop away if the arms are in anything other then the T-pose.
The other dress has a bulit in apron, and a cloth panel behind I dob't know a better way to explain it shoe lace section below the breasts. The cloth panel is not attached to any other polys. The skirt and the blouse are not attached to each other. The joint is under the apron string-band that runs around the wasit. A bunch of intersections of cloth which drives the cloth room to it's knees. When I tried to make it a hybrid half the apron flap is with the hip group and the other half is with the abdomen.
It sounds like someone got lazy.
