Did the creator fix the Jar-jar character? I seem to recall that the head didn't pose well, something about the ear-flaps not moving when the head turned?
Thread: Long Hair Is Trickier Than I Thought | Forum: Carrara
The memory problem is why I think post-rendered hair is preferable to geometry-based hair. If you take Eric's hair model, cut down the number of strands and increase their polygon count, maybe somehow you could calculate (prior to rendering) intermediate strands based on the weighted averages of the geometry strands. Then you could keep the actual geometry to a minimum, but the rendered hair would have many more strands than the geometry. Like if each geometry strand was the center of a hexagonal array of rendered strands, then you could have a ratio of rendered to geometry strands of 6:1, 18:1, 36:1, 60:1, 90:1 or even larger.

They probably use depleted uranium or tungsten to get even more range. Those materials have more than twice the sectional density of steel.

I see mesh areas around his "boxer shorts" edges that are going to cause problems. Specifically, there are places where several tiny polygons line up along the edge of one huge polygon. My advice is to subdivide all the big polygons so they can bend in unison with all the tiny polygons along their edges.

The density of water is about 800 times the density of air, so handgun projectiles fired at typical muzzle velocities tend to lose stopping power after about 20-30 feet. How does this weapon propel the bolt?
Thread: Ashcroft trying to criminalize certain computer-generated images | Forum: Community Center
If you get a chance to read the new proposed legislation on pedophile images, you'll see it's very specific. It outlaws real or fake depictions of children engaged in sex acts, so unless your naked fairies or naked babies are doing that, they'll be legal. Don't let the extremists scare you. That's what made the COPA fail the first time - the Clinton administration and the Congress were so confused by extremist-fringe fallacies and their absurd analogies that they made a law that couldn't stand. One other point that is germane: if you attack each other, use "ad hominem" arguments and threats, make ludicrous analogies and call each other names, at that point you've shown your desperation. Keep a cool head if you want to win this argument.

Making pictures of nude children is not a guaranteed right under the Constitution, whether or not it's common practice in some groups of people. "Dubya" and Ashcroft will listen to legal advice and come up with a proposal on a new "pedophile image law" that is specific enough to get through Congress and withstand court challenges, if they can keep their heads straight and counter the fallacies promoted by pedophile apologists and anti-pedophile extremists.
Thread: Is Chat the slums of Renderosity? Can we have help here? | Forum: Community Center
Valandar, the behavior you experience in chat is what you'd have to expect. Chat rooms can quickly sink to the level of the worst member, so it's probably a good idea to avoid them if you're sensitive, righteous or you can't tolerate people who lack social skills.
Thread: Trouble creating a smart prop | Forum: Poser Technical
If it's any help, running a disk repair program (Mac OS) causes the "smart prop prompt" to reappear. So maybe your copy of Poser is corrupt.
Thread: Invisible, like the predator | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One of the "Predator 1" effects was refraction when transparent, which is impossible in Poser 4, but S.O.P. in most rendering software.
Thread: RESPONSE TO "THE TRUTH ABOUT AMY" | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It sounds like a reasonable explanation to me, so I'm glad it was resolved amicably. I'm guessing that people can legally use Posette's hands in their Poser models if they refer to Posette's hand geometry via a PCF file (somehow), and they don't include Posette's hand geometry in a file for sale. But it's simpler to do as you did and redesign the hands "de novo", to add your own creative touch to the model.
Thread: Bee Evolution | Forum: Carrara
Bumblebee #4 (lower right) looks very good. If "Anything
Grows" is a rendered effect (and not a geometry
modification), it looks like something they could use to
speed up the Poser 5 "strand-based hair" module development,
in case that's what's holding up the release of P5 (and not
patent disputes with Pixar concerning the technique, I hope).
