have you got the latest service release installed?i seem to remember that one of the patches messed this up,making it impossible to load any other figures in the walk designer, but it was fixed once again in the next[last?] service release
Thread: *** Poser's Dirty Little Secrets REVEALED! *** | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
well i dunno geep,i've just been playing with figuring this out the last few days,my comments are not meant to disparage your's or anyone's work, but as for who's scale is right?i really think it depends on what figure you're using!?!fer instance...if you stand posette against your scale in p4 she's roughly 5'10" a little taller than average, but ok for a "fashion model"...v3 on the other hand stands about 6'2" by your scale in p4,not impossible, but definately above average and pretty danged tall for a woman.if there's two standards she's obviously built with the other smaller scale in mind.i wonder is posette shorter in p5?i guess she must be,unless they "adjusted" her.sigh...why couldn't they just have used a standard 1:1 scale like 1 unit=1 foot or 1 meter in the first place.what the hell is up with 8 feet?!?or even worse 8.3 !?!?who's wacko idea was that anyway?
Thread: *** Poser's Dirty Little Secrets REVEALED! *** | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
no i don't have a problem with an eight foot unit,it's pretty close to what i measured...and like i said my own measurement depends on the assumption that a known object really is the size it sez it is[geeps scale prop]if it's not, well then there's no foundation is there?however,in the absence of the info you've just provided in this thread it was about the best i could do for a "known quantity"...

yup it applies to poser4 too...in my last thread about this a day or so ago i came to the same conclusion, but didn't post it.while looking for a system scale for 3dsmax that matched poser's...i used dr.geeps measurement prop, and imported it into max,at 100%,the system scale that makes it exactly the nine feet it's supposed to be is, 1unit = 8.333 feet...the extra third of a foot is from who knows where, possibly an error in the size of the prop or possibly inacuracies in poser itself...
Thread: Are most illustrations using Poser truly professional quality? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
well if you're seeing "unprofessional" quality works, remember that most of it is not done by professionals! poser is a tool, and like any tool it's the person using it more than the tool itself that will determine the outcome...poser has limitations to be sure, but i've also seen some stunning work come out of it...i would venture to say that "most" of the people using poser are not really reaching it's limitations in all areas...most poser users wouldn't produce any better works with a highend program either...there are no magic "make it look awesome" buttons in ANY graphics proram...the more exensive programs actually require more skill than poser does to get similar results!
Thread: a question of scale... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK upon furthur investigation this seems to hinge upon the "system scale" i use in max...which in my case is left at the defualt of 1 unit = 1 meter, if i mess with that i can fudge the results in various ways since max has various ways to set the scale globally and locally,so possibly my version only apply's to my setting which is as i stated 1 unit = 1 meter with the "auto unit conversion" checked as far as i know these are the defualt settings within 3dsmax but may not acuurately reflect "reality" whatever the heck that really is! it works for me at any rate!

care to elaborate a bit Grey cat???how do you figure?i don't want to start an arguement but according to everything i've done today that just makes no sense at all,can you tell me how you came to that conclusion?
Thread: a question of scale... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
just a note of possible interest to anyone who cares and is following this thread...the numbers i quoted in my last post do appear to work...allthough i think it's probably just as easy to scale whatever you need to import into poser down to an even 40% of it's true size and call it a day and close enuff...another interesting point...if that size still seems off somehow in poser...note that while posette measures up at about 5'10 on dr.Geeps scale...slightly tall but not unreasonble for a gal,V3 on the other hand is about 6'2"! certainly not impossible, but definately above average height for a woman...maybe that's why she always seems so long and lanky in the arms and legs...she really is a very big girl!
Thread: a question of scale... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thank you Quixote...as soon as i saw the post i remembered dr geep's measurement props and dl'ed his 9foot scale...so assuming that it's reasonably acccurate...i played for a minute in max with it,i haven't tested this out with any other props or imported or exported anything from poser using these settings but for future reference.... importing the 9 foot scale prop using the habware obj plugin with the vertex scale set to 1...the 9 foot prop comes in at 3'6.52" according to max's own built in measurement utility....so to scale it up to a true 9 feet in max you need to uniform scale it by 254%,this results in the poser universe being 39.37%[actually 39.3700787]of the real thing....as i said all measurements were taken using max's built in measurement utility to give a readout of the prop's size in all three dimensions, with max set to read in feet and inches...the numbers work in max allthough they seem a little "off" from what i expected and i still need to test this with poser itself...but i really have no reason to expect it to be wrong either....thanx again
Thread: can I insatll XP to my pc with win98 in it and open poser from XP ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
the big answer is....maybe.i have a dual boot system with xp pro and win2k pro,and i can run p4/PP from either of my OS's,allthough it is only really "installed" in XP...poser seems to be pretty much self contained once it's installed,i don't think it depends on any outside registry entries...that's P4 tho,i dunno about p5...that said XP is vastly better at just about everything compared to 98...especially once you turn off all the glitz and make it look and run like the windows 2000 system that it is beneath all that crap
Thread: V3's casee of scurvies | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
yeah,i've noticed the same thing, allthough v3's morphs work very well and it's never been easier to make her face look like someone other than vicky, the body is difficult to change...you can make her thin, fat, flat chested, grossly obese even...but for the most part she always has that same idealized bone structure in her body that very few real women have...in short while we can now really change the face, the body still always looks like vicky...i suppose it's good that it does look so nice, but a little more changeability in the basic proportions would be helpful
Thread: Daz's vickie 2 vs. 3 figure | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
v3 works just fine in p4/pro...the reason things don't fit her is the same reason posette doesn't fit into v2 stuff..it's a different figure, the mesh is different the joints are different etc etc...that said the lack of "stuff" for v3 is almost certainly a very temporary situation and like has been mentioned already, you do get a version of v3 that does fit into v2's wardrobe.this is akin to the v2p4 version of vicky that comes with v2 which is sized to fit into posettes wardrobe...i really don't think there's much to choose really.v3 is a much better figure, she can actually look quite attractive with just a few minutes work, that's something i could never do with V2,she always seemed to look like "vicky" unless extreme measures were taken,v3 is much, much more versatile..she's worth it just for the head/face mesh alone
Thread: Where do TEMPLATE FILES go? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
the template files are simply "blank" texture files, usually showing the wireframe view of the mesh, this just shows you how the object is mapped, what part of the image file goes where on the model..think of them like a coloring book,if you paint inside the lines you have a texture[using photoshop, paintshop pro or whatever image prog you like]...they are not necessary for the item to work, and as such you can put them anywhere or nowhere at all, they're usually included as a courtesy for those who may want to make their own textures
Thread: Possible thief or my mistake sorry wrong Poser | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
nothing here is "Definately from poser" these are definately from zygote and look a little off because they probably predate the p4 meshes, more likely poser 3 or before,timewise...you guys do know that zygote has and does sell these models and in a multitude of ways too right??these look to be cut for lowpoly type animation,in any program EXCEPT poser...
Thread: Looking for a specific model... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
yup volfin i think you're right,if you look just in front of her neck you can see some individual hair strands...sorta flyaway type stuff...i've never seen a 3d model THAT detailed,3d hair just don't do that..there is something weird about the pic that makes it look 3d-ish tho, some bizarre color effect or some filter has been applied to it maybe...maybe it IS jennifer connoly, that's even better :)lol
