Thread: making an avi file as an animated texture does not work??? | Forum: Vue
I have done that and it worked ok.
In the Advanced Mat Editor choose Mapped Picture under the colors tab.
Make sure the video is truly an AVI file.
Did you make create an animation with it? Even though the texture is supposed to move, it will not unless you make an animation of that length.
If the video is 5 seconds long, set up an animation that is at least 5 seconds long. Make sure the frame rate of the video and the VUE animation are the same.
Thread: OT: Really strange email | Forum: Bryce
55 out of 100 people, who? What age group, nationality, education level?
Yes it is not hard to read. Brains are great pattern recogition machines, and they never cease to amaze me.
These days I am really on the lookout for statistics that don't cite sources and that don't define their sample groups. This is just a simple email, but you would be amazed at how often statistics and numbers are used in the media that are incorrect/incomplete.
Thread: OT: Using the WII remote as a 3D navigation device | Forum: Bryce
Seems like something we could use.
A good site to look at sci-fi-ish things that are being made is http://technovelgy.com/.
There's usually some interesting stuff for 3d in the Input Devices and Displays categories.
Thread: Vue 6 PLE | Forum: Vue
I didn't get an email about the v6 PLE. Where can I download it? I would like to play with the ventilators and eco painter.

Congrats on the new site. I like the wireframe/shaded piece. I made a site for a local nonprofit and use godaddy. Completely happy with them. Phone service is excellent.
Keep those 3dworld articles coming.

Thread: another ecosystem question-inside an object | Forum: Vue
Thanks for the ideas. I am using V5i so don't have the paint. I figured I'd have to do it in sections and rotate. Just hoping I'd missed something easy.
I'll have a sample up today.
Thread: WIP - Frying an Egg - Crits please! | Forum: Bryce
I thought the egg-white texture was done in the DTE and was suitably impressed since it completely baffles me. I would use metaballs just like you. I like the grave idea.
Originalmoron did heat shimmer on a render of his new ship and said,
"That is post work. Draw the outlines of the heat comming from the jets with the freehand selection tool. Sett to feather about 26. Then just a gausien blur. Its simpler then it sounds :) And that was in paint shop pro."
Maybe some version of this can be used to make it.

The egg is a good start!! I think a real egg doesn't reflect that much. I think you used a flat sphere for the white. You could raise it up just a bit to give the edge some depth. You might also try using metaballs for the white. Gives more variety to the shape. Much more yellow on the yolk. Maybe find a pic online and sample the color.
Next time you fry an egg, take a look and see. Realia is the best model.
I do like the ship. What's inside?? Do tell...
Thread: Animating In Bryce | Forum: Bryce
I agree, pose and animate the dragon first in DS and bring into Bryce to get the starting camera position right. Build your scene using very basic textures and unanimated water and sky. They can be changed later.
As we all know rendering animation can take a long time, even in preview, so hide the objects that you are not working on. Ex. if you are working on water movement, hide the dragon.
Can't wait to see your final!!
Thread: OT- Natures material | Forum: Bryce
That's an amazing piece. Thanks for the links. I find there are so many premade textures available online on company websites.
I made a kitchen scene recently that didn't need complete 3d detail. Everything came from company websites. Flooring, light fixtures, switches, appliances. Even a 2d car seen thru the window. The only difficulty was with the differing resolution of the textures.
I'll organize and post the links I used and the picture.
Thread: Textures on .vob | Forum: Vue
Just figured it out!! I have saved many things before and don't remember checking 'incorporate texture maps'. All is right with the world now.
Thread: Vue 6 Esprit's Infinite Terrain Creation | Forum: Vue
'Infinate' terrains are not possible in Vue. The closest thing is a procedural terrain. After you have created it and made it's texture; select the terrain, switch the top view and zoom out until you can see the circle, expand the terrain to the size of the circle. The circle is the 'horizon'.
A procedural terrain, or anything this big may slow your computer down. I wouln't even try to do an ecosystem on it. You will probably find that this size terrain is useful for high altitude scenes. I have never used one...yet.
Be sure to take a look at the above mentioned tutorial on the function editor.
