Having spent too many minutes in the last few days switching mateial textures to 0% ambient from 40% so I can get nice dark shadows (160 textures to change in one image) I'm sick of the sight of the material editor. Still the images are on their way to the Editor for the magazine they will be in so I shouldn't have to look at it for a while. In the end though the pain is worth it because the pictures really do look nice. I'll resize them down to a reasonable size and post a link to them in the next few weeks.

Thread: Is Victoria3 supposed to load in Poser 4.0.3? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
V3 works just fine in Poser 4.0.3 sounds like there is a corrupted RSR file hanging around. Go to the directory with blMilWom_v3.obj and remove the blMilWom_v3.rsr file. Then try loading V3 into poser again.

Sorry should have been "You did need to do more work" not "You do need to do more work" Cheers Mark

Thread: What are the advantages? | Forum: Vue
"You are free to update or not of course. But support and help here is ONLY for the latest Vue 4 version, this means 4.12!!" Not wanting to be rude but since this is a voluntary forum not an official one surely its up to those of us who are here to answer questions about whatever version of Vue we want and happen to have installed. However I finally got round to installing 4.12 the other day and have to say its certainly not created any problems for me. I hadn't had any real problems with 4.10 which is why I hadn't bothered to update before. You do need to do more work in Vue after you import figures to ensure the textures work OK, now I only have to change those bits (The ambient light setting on textures at 40% is my personal bug bear since I like to control my own lighting to get stronger shadows) that I want to. Cheers Mark

Thread: Stupid Question About Victoria 3 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm using V3 on a PII 450MHz with 312M of RAM. Definitly usable if you don't try to run loads of other applications at the same time. The High res map set for V3 can cause it to struggle with renders but it will get there eventually. Cheers Mark

Thread: Mimic 2.0 Available! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OK I admit it I'm a Daz junky. I'll be buying the Pro upgrade of Mimic later today. I'm a little surprised that since its purpose is to make making animations easier that I can't find any example animations showing what it can do to demonstrate just how good it is. Cheers Mark

Thread: Making an animation path... | Forum: Vue
A trick I havn't had to use in Vue that I used on my first animation project back when I did VR and 3D stuff for a living. The modeller we used didn't do animation, the animation package didn't show textures or a great deal of detail on objects until it produced a render. In the modeller we put in some bright red cubes as marker points along the path we wanted the animation to follow. Then in the animation package we plotted the animation by making the camera go from box to box. We did some low res test renders, put in more cubes and refined the path where there were problems and repeated the process till we were happy with it. Hopefully you wont need to resort to this kind of technique but it can help. Cheers Mark

Thread: Bryce vs. Vue d'Esprit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The pertinant stats for my system are: PII 450MHz 319M of RAM Turbo Pro AGP X2 Graphics Card Windows 98 I've used Vue 4.10 and Mover along with Poser and Mimic 1.0 to do chracter animations with Michael 2.0 and Victoria 2.0. And the Daz Goldfish for laughs now and again. And once I break my Daz habit something with a lot more umph in the case ;-)

Thread: Bryce vs. Vue d'Esprit | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've used both and much prefer Vue. The multiple view interface suits me just fine (and you can expand any one of the views to be full sized if you need to) but then I come from a engineering/architecture design background and have used a variety of high end 3D and CAD packages so to me its not exactly a new way of working. Bryce suffers (in my opinion) in the interface department, like a number of other 3D programmes, because it tries to reinvent the wheel. I often find, since my PC is a little on the archaic side at just over four years old, that it can be a bit slow with poser import but three simple things help with that: 1. Shut down all programmes that don't need to be running 2. Set the display windows to display in less than there best mode - it can be easier to position stuff in wire frame anyway 3. Hide stuff you don't need to do what you are doing at the time Cheers Mark

Thread: Problems with objects with multiple materials | Forum: Vue

If I understand the problem your describing right you need to go into the material summary (the three little balls icon in the top display) to select the materials to change because they are all attached to a single object. There is information on how to do this at the link I've attached to this message. Hope this helps. Cheers Markimpworks | vue news blog | twitter | pinterest
Thread: Play Poster, please comment! | Forum: Vue
I like it, especially since you cut down the number of fonts. The second poster isn't as busy so it has more impact. If it was my poster I might want to try a version without the text over the bottom of her boots but its a difficult call to make.

Thread: Theatre Poster WIP | Forum: Vue
I prefer the last of the three images its definitly the most dramatic. I find the tile texture on the floor is quite distracting. Maybe a different texture or making the tiles larger would help. In the final picture the volumetric effect on the light coming round the door might benefit from being stonger. I've found a trick for doing this recently. Put a second identical volumetric light in at exactly the same spot as the original and the volumetric effect looks a lot stonger. The lamp reduces the dramatic impact of the light coming from the doorway. Personally I'd put something else in its place. Anyway just my 2 pence worth.

Thread: Plea regarding gallery image sizes | Forum: Vue
I think we need to be careful to differentiate people who make a big image in terms of file size or dimensions because they can and don't know better and those who do it deliberately because their artwork is very detailed. I was looking at some oil painted artwork today on web sites and the resolution of the pictures was so poor on 640x480 images of large pieces that there was really no point in looking. All of the detail in the orginal had been lost. If there had be an alternative, larger, version I would have happily scrolled around it to see the detail. However a lot of the large images in the gallery lack that kind of detail and could easily be half the size they are. If a restriction was placed on the size of images that people can post in the galleries because some images are being subjectivelly judged to be too large the opportunity for creating detailed computer generated art would be lost. As in traditional art where media and the size of a work are important in CGI resolution, file size and type of file are too. In the end it comes down to both educating artists as to what is appropriate and being prepared to read the information below each thumbnail in the gallery before going to view it.

The image with the necklace as a tiara should be available from the link. Sorry not a great deal of detail of it visible but it proves it can be done.impworks | vue news blog | twitter | pinterest
