Do you believe it was due to textures? I aks becuase Bryce has that problem with image textures, they bloat up memory usage.
I saw this on the Eovia website about the current update to Carrara 5.1;
Render and use images with very high definition textures even if it does not fit in memory (RAM). As long as you have enough disk space, the texture will still render!"
Textures could be the key.  I'll investigate.  Many thanks.   (By the way, the Poser scene gobbled all the memory going and then locked up Carrara; as far as I know, it might have carried on gulping memory for a lot longer than a feeble 1.5Gb.)

Well, I don't rant.  I consider that impolite.  I have raised problems on the Carrara forum, which were expressed in a polite manner and were answered in a polite and helpful manner.  I am not entirely surprised that dlk30341 failed to spot them. Â
For the record, a scene that Poser 6 could render satisfactorily gobbled up 1.5Gb of memory just in the course of being imported to Carrara.    Â

Sorry, but importing a few very small Poser files will regularly cause problems for Carrara.   Pretending that Carrara has no memory problems does no-one any favours.

As far as I am concerned, the biggest problem with Poser is its abysmal handling of memory.  The biggest problem with Carrara is its even more abysmal handling of memory (although the useless terrain editor does provide competition).   Carrara 5 is an even worse memory-hog than Poser, by quite a margin.
As for Hexagon - well, I'm obviously not made for modelling.  Is there anyone (this'll be in the UK and possibly the Republic) who remembers the comedy sketch by Marty Feldman, where he is the tour-guide on a coach-trip to the seaside * ?  The Hexagon tutorial reminds me of that: side-splittingly funny, but completely unhelpful.
( * Feldman points things out to the left and to the right at a spine-jarring speed.  The passengers look left and right faster and faster, until he says, "And here we are at the seaside!")
In the Hexagon version, a space animal is created in rather less than a nanosecond.
Thread: Anyone else got problems with the CP-Tarantula zip file? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Even though a committed arachnophobe, I downloaded it, too.   The download was OK, but, after installing, I had a job finding the nasty, little blighter, until I realised that the default directory for CP creatures had changed from "New Animals" to "NewAnimals".  I even loaded it into a scene briefly
:scared:, just to check that the file was OK.    Â

Do you know if your hardware drivers are up to date?  I remember that Poser 6 wouldn't render anything for me, until I tracked down an updated driver.

I'm getting that "deja vu"Â feeling, all over again:

Thread: Unable to give merchants credit | Forum: Community Center
I get the same problem, even when trying to edit an existing image.   I have made marginal changes to the image, which do not require any update to the credits, but the upload fails, because the merchants' names on the existing credits have been wiped out and cannot be restored.  Â
Thread: OT Question about installing Hexagon | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I don't remember for certain. but it may be that the serial number is needed only for registration, so you will need the number to obtain fixes and to get Hexagon 2 at the upgrade price. Â

The gallery problem on PP is to do with the new style. If you go into your profile and go down to "Board Style", under preferences, selecting a style other than "BlueStylusP" should fix the problem.
Thread: Memory Allocation Error in rendering | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for all the ideas. It looks as though the file is never going to render, though, so I have started on a reduced version. Carrara seems to be an incredible memory hog. When I tried the batch render approach, memory use raced up to 1.4 Gb during the opening of the file and the rendering bombed out at once. The next time, I minimized the window at the start of rendering, which freed 0.6Gb and allowed the rendering to proceed - but it still ended with a memory allocation error. For the record, it is a new Carrara file, but with objects imported via Transposer.
Thread: Memory Allocation Error in rendering | Forum: Carrara
I don't think I can post a copy of the file. Unless I save with "save all externally" for the texture maps, Carrara won't let me open the file again. In fact, I get memory allocation errors on the attempted save and on the close. I suppose I just have to assume that Carrara is not up to handling this file. Many thanks for the suggestions.
Thread: V3 to Aiko3 skins, differences? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I suppose the point is that some sets contain morphs for either A3 or V3, but MATs that can apply to both, while other sets contain both morphs and MATs for both characters. In the latter case, since not everyone uses both A3 and V3, it seems perfectly reasonable for vendors to sell them separately, as well as bundled together.
