Thread: OT: Why is it most NON MAYA/3D MAX renders of humans look like plastic? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have used Poser, Daz, 3ds Max, C4D, etc. What I have noticed most about the rendering is that the higher end (ahem, $$$) programs have better render engines. Firefly is ancient, and although I respect what SM has done to keep it somewhat current ( actually think it is quite a value if you compare render quality vs. dollar to the other programs), I don't think it calculates lighting as in-depth as the other engines. It was born before global illumination and multi-core home PCs became commonplace. For example look back through the gallery a couple years. There are some renders that look so good I couldn't tell if they were CGI at first, and that was before VSS and GI, but they were done with fifteen lights in the scene. Or play with LuxPose the uber-users have been creating. Render the same scene in firefly then export it to LuxRender, it will be 10x better. And take 10x longer. That's just what I have noticed. Laurie, you have seen it all. Any thoughts?
Thread: The LuxPose Project - Alpha Stage | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks guys. I wasn't sure if it was just me, or if there really was something going on with the shaders.
Thread: The LuxPose Project - Alpha Stage | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hooray! I looked at lux a while back, but there wasn't much for it then, so I didn't pay much attention to it then. Thanks to all for putting this together. One of the best Poser tools I have seen.
I read through the threads for LuxPose and downloaded 1.15 to try out. The Python works great, and fast for me. And I think I just got the AIR app figured out.
I am still a little iffy on the materials. It seems to not work with VSS. I figure I'll get smacked on the nose with a rolled up newspaper for saying that this late in the game, but I spent hours last night reading through all the LuxPose threads and I seem to remember BB saying something to that effect early on, except I can't find a definitive post with the info. Or maybe not, it's all kind of a blur at the moment. For now I am just testing what shader nodes will work and building a VSS prop to reflect the research. It's easier for me than going through the code, since I am a novice at best in regards to programming.
Also, how are people getting decent renders? I have a grasp on LuxRender, their documentation is very helpful. And my system is capable, Athlon II x4 running at 3360 Mhz with 4gb of ram. It benchmarks a little faster than a stock Phenom IIx4 in Cinebench. I let a simple test render with one point light, one figure, and walls go for six hours this morning and it was still a grainy mess. Nothing like Raven's killer five-minute rat up there.
Thread: OT remote Wake On Lan | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I thought the modem thing was a good idea, but then remembered I don't have a land line, just cell phone. lol. Anyway, I disabled "Wake on Pattern Match," and that took care of the unwanted wake-ups. But using "Wake on Pattern Match" only it doesn't always work. In fact, the only consistency I can see about when it works and when it doesn't is that it works perfectly when I am right by the computer testing it, but never works when I actually need it to. Hilarious, but not useful. For what it is worth, when it decides not to work that is from a WOL program on my computer, web-based plugins, and also the app on my phone. Oh well, I guess I can always use an old computer as an always-on gateway, remote desktop into it, then send the magic packet from there.
Thread: Looking for Poser Python tutorials | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, I'm on the laptop for this week and it doesn't seem to play nice with Python and Poser. I guess I'll just read stuff and try it out when I get home.
Thread: Looking for Poser Python tutorials | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Phil, great to hear from a script master! Google didn't give either one of those. Oh well. Thanks for the links! I haven't browsed in detail yet, but it looks like good info.
Thread: OT - I have something to confess... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Lol same thing for me. I got on about six months ago through peer pressure, and because I was out of town and wanted to stay in touch. I haven't really used it though, but every once in a while some old friend will pop up and we can get in touch.

Thread: OT: Internet cuts off so can't leave download overnight..All ISPS have this?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I have Time Warner and same problem. I noticed it usually only cuts me off when I have too much going on at once, or I have my Opera settings cranked too far up. But a reset always fixes it. Used to have DSL. Technically slower, but realistically faster because you have your own line instead of a shared one. Man I miss it....
Thread: NEW USER QUESTION - CONFORMING CLOTH TO DYNAMIC CLOTH | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Trekkiegirrrl's method is correct, but it has given me problems in the past. Your could use D3D's Figtoprop script to convert your cloth to a prop, and go to the cloth room from there. That is what I have been doing, and works pretty well. Saves time over importing and exporting also.
Thread: I've made it bigtime, but don't know how to react | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If it was something I was working on and lifted from somewhere that isn't public domain I'd be pretty cranky, but in this case I second pjz99. Congrats on your work being noticed!

That's to make/use a bodysuit, run the cloth simulation with the bodysuit, so it covers the whole character and shapes as you want (Into a zero pose but with the character's morphs on it) Then you could export the prop and then use something like Morcloth to apply this morph to pretty much any clothing..
It sounds similar to spawning a FBM of the character, and dumping that onto a cloth with Morphing clothes, correct? I was doing that but it got to be very time consuming, and my runtime size got out of control. I'm trying to do it all from inside Poser.
Thread: New Dynamic Cloth question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - What I usually do to make it fit a smaller figure, is that I parent the dynamic cloth to the figure, then in the first frame I scale the figure down a bit (in whatever axis needed), and then have the figure be at full size again in the 'final' frame, maybe 15-20 frames up.
Generally when working with dynamic cloth, I've find it works best to have the actual pose and character morph somewhere else than in the first frame. I usually work on frame 21 with my scene, and let the figure be completely zeroed on frame 1. That way I can pretty much control the simulation as I want.
I think I had tried that at first, but the cloth just rescaled with the parent. It also tended to fall out of shape by the time the caught up to it in size.
The method above has worked perfectly for me, so I decided to try to spawn a morph and use it on the original figure. I save the newly shaped cloth as an .obj, then try to import it back onto the body actor of the original cloth figure, as an FBM, but Poser ALWAYS crashes when I try this. Am I missing something about how the program works that won't let the obj be applied as a full body morph?
