That's quite a project you've got there.
Maybe check with the printing companyย firstย what resolution they need for a proper print.
The maximum resolution I could squeeze out of Vue once (infinite 6.5) was about 12.000 x 8000. And that was a very simple scene. Maybe Vue7 handles it better, don't know. If I calculate it right you are going for 17.000 by 8000 pixels. That's a lot!
If you decide to render it yourself, do a test render first with an empty spectral scene at that resolution. It might turn out that the memory load is to heavy for your system. As a result Vue will not be able to compile the picture in the end and you will loose the whole render. Not something you want to find out after four days of rendering, as I did!!
I like Wabe's idea. That will reduce the system load a lot.
Cheers!
Thread: Lock distance between two objects | Forum: Vue
If you are creating an animation you should use "linked" and only move Jupiter around. On top of that you can "Lock" objects in the viewports by clicking on the symbol underneath the "Load Material" icon in the object properties panel and choose "Locked". Another nice one you'll find there is "Main view only". It frees the other viewports of cluttering.
If you first select a moon in the world browser it is still possible to move it.
Thread: Future of Road Maker? | Forum: Vue
You can do this ย with the help of Photoshop or alike. All you need is layers and the ability to paint!
I just did some experiments on this yesterday to see if and how it works:
www.charm3d.com/Downloads/VUE/Landscape.jpg
Used a screen capture of Google Maps as a reference. Traced the waterways, roads and villages on separate layers. Exported as JPG.
Created a terrain in Vue, reset it and painted some minor elevations on it. Clicked on "Picture" on the left side of the Terrain Editor and imported the Waterways.jpg, blend 5%, clicked ok and voila I had my waterways. Did the same with the roads, blend 0.2%. It's quite easy.
Now, the really useful thing is that you can reuse the maps for distribution of the materials.
Create a "Mixed" material for the terrain and make sure it is "Object Parametric" mapped. Material 1 and 2 can be "World Standard". Edit the distribution function, create a texture map node and import the Road.jpg. Anything black in the picture will be the left material, white will be the right material.
And that's all there is.....
Thread: Vue 7 bugs and solutions(?) | Forum: Vue
Vue7iย 39290 MAC OS X 10.5.6
ย
This is the list I reported over the last two months:
ย
Can not render to TIFF
HyperVue does not clean up temp files after finishing render
Animated alpha plane (image sequence) render time is 30x longer compared to same static image
Material set-up is wrong for newly created alpha planes. It uses bump map settings, reflections, etc of last used material
Using an alpha plane in an Environment Mapping atmosphere causes a fringe where the image goes from opaque to transparent and has the atmosphere as background
Z-depth is calculated beyond the Alpha Plane and projected in front of the Alpha Plane (On Z-depth map)
Added objects to library from outside of Vue do not show in library
When "Show red wireframe when selected" is deselected in the preferences, selected object in the viewport disappears
STEP Keyframes behave like linear keyframes though the graph shows the correct behavior
Changing an animation behavior (loop, once, repeat, etc) changes the animation length of an object.
Looped animations, like spin, stop after the last non looped animations even though the Render Sequence is set to go beyond that time
If a keyframe is changed in position or value the keyframe type changes back to smoothed
Every time I click an object in the browser the timeline will jump back to it's preset scale and position
When you set keyframes manually (or use copy paste) in the timeline it is possible to create two keyframes on top of each other with different values for the same parameter
After grouping animated objects, preparation time before rendering starts goes up dramatically from 1 second to minutes. In one case I had to wait for 30 minutes, and that was a preview render!
ย
In the past I got replies of Lee, Randall and Matt. Now it looks like only Lee is left.....
That might explain the lag in response.

Thread: finding imported objects textures etc | Forum: Vue
In the preferences of Vue you can point to additional texture folders. Go to the "Operations" tab and point to your .../Poser/Textures/ folder.
The next time Vue can't find a texture it will suggest one from this folder. Click yes to all and you are done!
Cheers!
Thread: Animated characters in EcoSys? | Forum: Vue
Yes, I did a test once and it worked, but only with the local render, not HyperVue unfortunately. Also I used a very low poly character (less than 1500 polys in Vue) based on V4, but with all body parts replaced by box primitives.
Not sure how well it will work with a few hundred 80k characters! Keep you fire extinguisher ready...
Thread: Saving vue picture as a tiff | Forum: Vue
It's a known bug, hopefully solved next release........
Advice: Use PSD if you do postwork in Photoshop, choose 16 bits and "include alpha channel" (if you need it) for best quality.
You are lucky you did not do a 400 frame animationย renderย to tiff like I did......................;-(
Thread: animation - hold position | Forum: Vue
ย Nice Melikia, but what if something moves in front of the camera while it is in the hold position....??
Just teasing!
In the timeline click the keyframe where the camera stops, right click, keyframe --> keyframes options, set to "Linear Out". Click the keyframe where the camera should start moving again, right click, keyframe-->keyframe options, set to Linear In.
Cheers!
Thread: What am I missing? | Forum: Vue
I usually do not animate the camera directly but have it tracking a "dummy" object instead, i.e. a sphere hidden from rendering. Gives much smoother results.
Vue keyframes are standard smoothed, but if you want to do a pan-stop-pan movement the two stop keyframes should be linear. One annoying thing in Vue is that whenever you move a (linear) keyframe it will turn into a smoothed keyframe again. Not handy!
In the spline section you can manipulate and smooth the animation to your liking.ย
There is a video tutorial on my site if you want to see how I do my animations.

Thread: Vue6i And Poser Files | Forum: Vue
Try this:
Load a sphere, open the material editor and click "Mapped picture" at the first tab. Click the little arrow underneath the picture preview window to go to the bitmap library of Vue.
On the bottom you see an icon of a paper with a folded corner, click that and point to your Poser Textures folder. Click OK. You have now created a link from within the Vue library to your Poser Textures folder.
Next time Vue can not find a texture it will first go through it's library of bitmaps to try to find it, and subsequently will find it in the Poser Textures folder. It then prompts if you want to replace the unfound bitmap with the one found, which is of course the same as the original. Say yes to all, sit back, and let Vue do the rest!!!!
It is very accurately because I think it uses the whole path instead of just the name of the file.
As an alternative you can point to the Poser Textures folder from within the preferences settings, but I like it this way so I can easily try different textures, without going back to Poser.
Cheers!
Thread: Vue6i And Poser Files | Forum: Vue
ย If Vue can't find a texture it will try to find it in it's own library. So, if you ad a link to the Poser TEXTURES folder from the Vue library it will find and suggest a replacement for the original file. Which has been very accurate until now......
DO NOT COPY the folder but LINK to it from the bitmap pallette and the preferences Operations tab.

Thread: Models - triagulated or quads? | Forum: Vue
ย Model in quads using the guidelines in these tutorials. If you stick to some rules there should be no artifacts after importing into (and triangulating by) Vue.
Also check out the Glen Southern's "Minotaur" tutorials on the same page. Even if you're not interested in Silo they will still give you a lot of information on general modeling techniques.
Thread: Poser Dynamic Cloth Not Working | Forum: Vue
Attached Link: Charm3D
It has not worked on a MAC for a long, long time.... E-on blames Poser, but if I import the same scene in an older version of Vue6 it still works!I don't expect this error will be solved anymore and I haven't be able to try it with Vue7 since it won't start on my Macbook. GREAT!
If you want to render a still you can simply "Spawn" a morph for the cloth on the frame you want to use, and then import the Poser scene as usual. Works for me....
See my site for a bit more adventures workaround for full Poser animations.
Cheers!
