Did not like him till I saw the render. With the pose there I think he would be a cool villan.

This is a character I am working on for a web comic I plan to put together. Lots of preparation all original mesh I made in wings and render here in Messiah. Once I upgrade the hardware I will be rigging him and his partners.

      Here is my take. If you are not spending a lot of time doing 3D already then you most likely will not have the disipline to really use these packages. People who are sucessful at it are already doing it and are not waiting for advice on what to get they are working with lower cost or free programs and learning right now. If you have that disipline then you will know what package would work for you. Go to the forums of the softwares that you are thinking about and read what peopel are saying. Are people frustrated with frequent crashes or feaures that are poorly implemented. 

     What do you want to do with the software? If you want to do character stuff or what. I know ther eare a lot of succesful artists who use open source stuff or started with it. Teyon started with wings which is a excellent boxmodeller and wings users got front page on CG talk. I demo's wings for a animation house that used 3DS Max they were impressed with what can be done with it and how fast. There are very few people who are masters at all areas what do you want to do with it. Matte painting, character animations, visualizations. Can't help you unless you help yourself and look at what you want to do with it.

Yeah I heard ther eare soem thign sliek that in there I have not used it though. I use messiah for my animation and rigging.

I am curious why you did it in Wings. I thought you used Silo almost exclusivly. That said Wings is very capable

Having a light mesh is always good. using messiah I knwo it is very nice to have a nice efficiant mesh. Low poly counts allow for more other good stuff in the scene and also if you use messiah or another renderer that does SubD then you can have different subD levels for different distances. Close up 4 distant 1 level. Last not everyone has the latest greatest computers so its all good. great model is that the fell beast from LOTR.

Nice stuff on the bug eyed superhero dude ther eI woudl give him normal eyes and make bug eyed goggles. Hulks brows seem odd to me but can't make any more precise comments. Really great stuff and your sculpting is really taking off. Now I am relegated to my old craptop so none of that for me.

Wings is pretty straightforward you can import your plans and work from there. How much modelign have you done and are you more comfortable with splines or with poly sub. You can import the photos in wings just use image plane and select the pic you want and then turn it and place it where you want. wings is free all the time.

Well I will say what annoys me is not so much making poser pics. Who cares. It is great artisists who are being ignored like Lemong , Flakmonkey Matthieu. Mostly becuase of the insular nature of the poser community. Most users will not bother looking at pictures made in other programs regardless of content. A lot of very good artists left this place for similar reasons.

       Does it matter. Well really it doesn't. There are other sites and a few which poser is simply not permitted so there are other places to go. What can we do to make it better. Go through some other galleries that are not poser or Bryce enjoy them and find some real gems and acknowledge them. Appreciate the effort that it takes to build things up from scratch as opposed to downloading or buying items and make note of it.

   This is a poser site so it is expected that you will have the poser reality warp here. Nothing wrong with using poser and making nice pictures but there is a distinct lack of appreciation for those who put forth the extra effort to make all original stuff. To boot there is an expectation that you will give away your work so others can use it.
     
     The poser galleries are the most popular so if you are posting elswhere here your work pretty much will be ignored. If you want to hang out with others who make their own content then it would probably be best to go to a site that caters to that.

   I just post here for the few people I know here at this site. To get recognician for my work or critiques that I can use to improve it I go elsewhere.

I agree Teyon. Post wireframes in teh right forums or here and often enough you can get some sort of critique. Gallerys is mostly hugs and great. It seems to have a lot more to do with who you know and not what. Well there is always  going to other sites. I like a few of the forums here so I stick around.  but the galleries I just wait till soemone I liek posts soemthign there is just too much on the galleries to keep track of.
