Ok, to knife up polys, you select only the polys you want to knife. The split tool is Ctrl + l. You must first select the poly, then select the points that will split that poly.

I do the same thing as Travis, but don't let Bandsaw get out of hand. I made that mistake on my first human head. It's better to use Bandsaw in the very beginning, then use the Knife and Split tools to add more precise detail to the model. For example, instead of using Bandsaw for adding detail to the nose (which will split all the polys to the back of the head, just use the Knife tool to split up the nose.

Probably used Sub Divide. Can also use the Knife tool or the Split tool. When box modeling, you add alot to create more detail.

Go to http://www.Flay.com and look to the top, right side of your browser, under "Articles and Features", and click the link "Human Modeling Tutorial". This shows the steps to modeling a male human figure. It uses box modeling, like you wanted.

No need to model it. In Lightwave, you can simply use Hypervoxels to create anything from explosions to water. With the use of Lightwave's Particle FX, you can make a perfect stream of water, and have it splash as it hits the ground or have it flow (like you are asking about); then just apply Hypervoxels. It's quite simple in Lightwave. Since you don't have Lightwave, I'm not sure if you'd really want to model it. It'll be very time consuming, but I guess it could be done. What program/s are you using?

Sounds like a messed up poly. Go back and delete the poly, then make it again. Maybe this will make it go away.

Your best bet would be to find a picture/s of DNA, then use it as reference. You could make some Splines in the shape of the DNA to start with, then use the Rail Extrude tool to make the strands and the rest of the shapes. If you don't know how to use the Rail Extrude tool, these are the basics: 1. Make a spline in the first layer. 2. In the second layer, create a flat disk centered on one of the end point of the spline. 3. Use the Rail Extrude tool. You may need to flip the disk in order for it to follow your spline properly.

Thanks, Logan and Teyon. I'm still gonna do some work on it (fix the cheek bones, add some teeth and eyes, and a few other things). The method I used to model this is similar to the one at the link given. It's what gave me the idea to use a sphere. Beside using the sphere, I didn't really follow the tutorial since it is for Maya. For most of the detail, I used the Drag tool. For extruding the ear, I used the Smooth Shift tool. Lastly, for the eyes, I deleted the polys around where the eye socket will go (kinda large space), then layed down points in the general shape of the eye, made them a poly, beveled them back, and then deleted the original poly and connected it to the rest of the mesh (Weld).Thread: head modeling using templates and net method | Forum: 3D Modeling
If you are using Lightwave, you can easily flip the a selected polygon/s (f). Sounds like the normals are facing the wrong way. You could also use double-sided (Surface panel) so that both sides of the polys are surfaced.

Looks great! I agree with logan: the nose is a bit delicate for a male. The bridge of the nose should probably be a bit thicker as it gets closer to the nostrils.
