Thanks, agent Smith. :) Yeah, I'm behind the times, but damn, the "times" just move on so fast now...not enough time to catch up! hey, I wasn't knocking the fact that the link was here...just the annoyance factor. The people who stocked the page with Flash ads....

But, the idea...at least My idea/suggestion ... is that it's ludicrous to word it implying in a way that a "helpful" comment is the one thing desired by the uploader.

"I don't really understand how "mostly hobbyist" is somehow taken to mean "no professionals at all". Clearly a misunderstanding. However, if I may, I could offer a "helpful suggestion" as to how to word such things better-ly for future reference. ;)

"Maybe if the lighting were like..., then it would enhance..." That's a real good point, but still on the subjective side. However, it's an opinion, and well within the guidelines, in the spirit of "helpful...." I see something with a glaring error which detracts from the image, like a body part poking through clothing, or a non-seamless texture tiling obviously, that probably ought to be mentioned. I guess you could also try to second guess what the guy had in mind but didn't quite achieve. In any event, I'm far more likely to offer a suggestion IF the artist specifically requests it. But I think that should be up to the artist, and not de facto implied in the Comment field.

or they don't want to take the time to go into it, so they just give an opinion of how they like or don't like the image. That's pretty much how I look at it. I couldn't tell you how many times I really wanted to give a "helpful" suggestion for "improving" but was put off by all the "oohs" and "ahhs" the picture already had. Even if it sucks, there are certain cliques here, whose members will always applaud each other's work, and, God help the guy who offers suggestions for "improvement". And ther are other times where it asll seems so subjective; Like, who am I to tell someone I think different lighting would be better?
Thread: Good God, what an annoying web page | Forum: Bryce
"When will they stop calling Bryce a 'Landscaper' ? " That's how it started, I guess. They really ought to call it a "Poserizer" Looks like a cool program, though. I had Bryce 4, but I lost it somewhere. shrug It was a gift. I never used it much anyway. Should be interesting to see what DAZ does with it.

There are professionals here posting images.
I just don't like the wording because it seems somehow (to me, at least), to diminish the images.
Like, hmmm, I'm supposed to offer a suggestion for improving this...
Alot of times my only suggestion for improvement is to wipe its existence off the face of the planet. Not particularly "helpful", I imagine.
Can't go around saying that though. ;)

Thread: Tim Choate - 2005 "State Of The Site" Spotlight | Forum: Community Center
"why not kill all the forums and just be a store?" Strictly realistically speaking, that's how they get the customers in - by offering some interesting reason to hang out. And the galleries, even where "advertising" is prohibited (even though there's a "product credits" feature) are the best advertising possible. Renderosity is a business, making business-type decisions in regard to the direction in which they wish to take it. I don't think anyone is pretending it's anything other than that. I've also seen plenty of examples where they do show a genuine concern for the members. Look at all the dead or dying forii here. It takes a little time to add those to the site, and they do it by request, not for a fee, in order to make the members who want it happy. They can't give everyone everything they want, or else they'd spend their whole day fulfilling wishes. Yeah, Tim said more about the MP than about anything else, but then again I don't think he started up this Bondware thing just to practice his coding.

Renderosity IS a store. It's taken 6 or 7 years to get to that point, but here it is.
It's also an artist site with a lot of FREE resources for members, and I imagine some high overhead.
And I doubt that Bondware has a money tree growing in the back yard.
Who could fault them for wanting to cash in on the Poser craze? If they don't someone else will anyway, so it might as well be them.
This is just one of many sites in the CG world where you can find answers, ask questions, download freebies, mingle, and all that, and yes, buy stuff too. Why not? I know there are alot of people who do like I do, and visit them all regularly, and allow each site to be what it wants to be... I don't go to someone's house and say, "I'd rather the couch be over there. Move it for me please. "

Thread: "modo" Modeling program | Forum: 3D Modeling
No, my CPU stays within normal range. I have an ASUS motherboard which comes with this "ASUS probe" program which monitors everything and I always have it open on my second monitor, just to watch such things. There might be an issue with certain cards in certain configurations, but mine is doing great. I am actually impressed with modo. My crashes are more than likely a result of me pushing it too hard, too quick, trying to learn it as the demo clock ticks down. The documentation IS good, and the video tutorials I downloaded are very helpful. I'm planning on buying it, if that means anything. :) Like I had stated earlier, the UV tools alone are worth its price.
Thread: Be careful of what you ask for... | Forum: Community Center
The filter solution is so easy, anyone can do it, with no coding knowledge, and even an extremely limited knowledge of computers. What you do is, you click the link that says "Logout", and then close the browser, delete any desktop shortcuts, and go to, say, CGTalk or somewhere. End of problem.
Thread: "modo" Modeling program | Forum: 3D Modeling
"Are you running the latests nVIDIA drivers by any chance?" As a matter of fact, I am. It said so on the modo site that I ought to, and that they were pleased that Nvidia was working with them. I didn't do it right away, but the first time I opened modo it told me I ought to. I don't know that I want to revert though, because updating my driver helped out my Lightwave interface. My card, a Ge-Force FX 5700 before I updated the driver would have a problem every now and then...releasing memory, or something. Sometimes when I opened another Open GL app, I'd get a brief "flash" of what I had been seeing earlier in a different program. That doesn't happen anymore. I also used to see artefacts in LW modeler, which also are now gone. "Errrrrrrmmmm, how about reading the manual..." Yeah, that's what I ended up having to do. ;) "if one key press constitutes a steep learning curve, no wonder you haven't got to grips with it" Well, that's a bit harsh now, don't you think? Not very cheerful of an attitude at all.
Thread: Poser 5 dynamic hair is a mesh? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You replied too quickly, kuroyume0161. ;) Not necessarily something "for sale", but I want to know if this falls under the catgory of "redistributable"
Thread: Poser 5 dynamic hair is a mesh? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks, that's what I was wondering. No, this is something I made, admittedly rather quickly, as a test. I suddenly got curious as to whether it could be exported and imported into LW. I'm looking at it like this: If what kuroyume0161 says is true, about it being a spline and not a mesh, then that makes it fair game...like if I used a LW primitive to build a whole new model off of. Using this particular feature of Poser as a modeling program.
