If you are using someone else's photograph of a real recognizable person, you might need permission and a "model release" before distributing your images, unless you do a lot of work to the photo, etc.. That said, photographs which are evenly lit or lit from the center front will work better, and be a lot more flexible, than photos which are strongly lit from one side. Also, a longer focal length (90mm or more) will yield less distortion. Since the image will get distorted when you fit it into a texture map, you want it to start fairly clean. A pure unretouched photo will not look right on most Poser people, because the backgrounds, clothes, etc.. will not match in level of detail. A painted texture map seems to blend better. The best texture maps for Poser people that I've seen have all been handpainted, even if they look photographic. Carolly
Thread: Poser Pro Pack Updater- important news! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Steve, Many thanks for the trust and goodwill. I hate dongles... and the pirates which force a need for such protection. I really like the ProPack, so will definately be hanging on the doorstep waiting for the upgrade. :) Carolly
Thread: Conforming garment bug :: please tell Curious Labs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It is almost a pity that is a historical piece. The suit looks so weird that you'd expect to see giant squid tentacles or other fantastic threat. I hope that you get the problem solved. Carolly
Thread: Poser Crash...can I shoot myself now? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I learned years ago to save often... and save under 2 or 3 names in rotation. (An Amiga killed a file and 3 days of my time with it.) If it corrupts the file by crashing during a save operation, you still have a usable file from within the last hour... and maybe even minutes depending upon how compulsive you are. Carolly
Thread: A (probably) basic question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My understanding is that most of the fairies, starting with the one from DAZ are based on or similar in size to the New Young Woman model (who isn't as "endowed"). If you start with clothing for the NYW and modify theose pieces you should have less trouble. I'd also suggest talking to Traveler, also known as Morphing Man, because he is perhaps the best at getting things to fit once you've changed the underlying shape. Nerd and Bloodsong are good resources as well. Good luck, she is off to a great start! Carolly
Thread: GEN13 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, the top pictures of Gen-13 don't look anything like each other in bone structure, or body shape. A bit of hair color doesn't make a distinctive face in my book. These women don't have the same eyes, chins, cheeks, so using them for reference would result in a composite image which would therefore match nobody's vision. Just MHO. Carolly
Thread: A railing prop :) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I needed one last October! But... hmm... I can rework that picture... thanks!! BTW, this sort of thing is ALWAYS useful. It may not be as glamorous as skin textures or exciting as raygun props, but without chairs, walls, balconies, whatever, to anchor them to a scene, the Poser people will just float in space. Carolly
Thread: grrrrr. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
In my case it was memory. The guys at DAZ/Zygote told me 200MB for anything with lots of textures or the Michael/Vicki characters. On the Mac, I can directly assign enough memory to a task, and the program is happy. When the program is happy, I'm happy. Considering how cheap it is compared to weeks of your time, a stick of RAM seems like a reasonable first assault on the problem of crashes and missing texture maps. Carolly

Thread: Alternate texture for roadkill grill critter | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
When in Montana I got a box of "ROADKILL HELPER" from a truckstop while gassing Grandma's car. I had to hide it from her, lest she think I was either sick, or starving. It made a great gift for the lady sitting my cat (who used to do taxidermy, and has boxes of bones scattered about.. many of her subjects were scraped off roads). The cover was a hoot to read. I remember a recipe for RATatouille... Carolly

Thread: Hawaiian Stuff needed! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
CacheForce has a tourist in Hawaiian shirt, hat, floppies, and two cameras around his neck for about $9 last time I looked. Painting that sort of texture onto a shirt won't be too much of a problem if you'd rather do it yourself. I think there was a "hulagirl" for Posette, too, but that was some time ago, and may have been in PFO's funstuff. There is a "jungle girl" outfit somewhere, too, but you probably want the grass skirt. I don't remembert seeing a lei anywhere. Carolly
Thread: Coin Sets Available | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You can get real coins which are quite ancient. (I have a Phoenician coin which is quite old, and it wasn't that expensive.) Coins in common use (like our small change) are available from many sources (check the internet to see the catalogs). However, they are worn rather than the minty-fresh specimens you are using. It depends upon purpose. If you have a merchant in a Moroccan bazaar or a Viking coming back from Mikligardi with a chestful of Arabian silver, you don't want mint, you want character. Carolly

Also, notice that tiny patch of blue under her arm where the sweater sticks through the jacket? When you pose characters, sometimes things stick though the meshes. You can either size the outer garment slightly bigger via the scale dials, or just make the underlying bit of skin or clothing invisible. Carolly
