Well they certainly are clean, CrazyDawg, but I'm not sure that 4 toruses and a cylinder actually could be considered modeling? Perhaps put some dents in the sides?

Yeah, just save the fractal in your User section, then re-insert it whereever you want. Remember, the DTE wasn't even supposed to ship with Bryce 3. We're lucky we even have access to it... I'm surprised they even GAVE us a User section in there. Lazy bastards.

Nice model, and the render is great! Bud K sells an actual one of these, fully functional. I make blades with lofting in Rhino, I don't know how you made this one... Looks good up until the wavey part.

Aye, not to be a jerk about it, but the only reason TO use a light dome is because you don't feel like using SS. Or vice versa. Sometimes SS drives render times into oblivion, and without premium settings SS isn't much better than a light dome can get... Although light domes hit objects from multiple angles, they are generally a soft-shadows technique or a "global illumination" technique. You honestly don't need 73 of them really, but it's your render! Try it all, learn as much as you can...

I guess there's something even MORE important going on here. The whole point of using light domes is to not NEED softshadows, as the light dome creates the softest shadows as it's main purpose. If you had one or five lights, then maybe soft shadows would be important, but it's not. And it's just gonna drive your render times way, way up. Forget about them and try it, see how it looks!

Do you have global shadows "ON" in the Skylab? Without this set to on, you will have no other shadows...

You can thank me by doing the same for someone else, when the opportunity arises. Countless Renerosity-ites have done this for me in the past, don't think any ONE person can learn CGI and 3D imaging all alone. Hell, have you ever seen the credits for the Matrix, or the Lord of the Rings? No reason our names shouldn't be on those lists one day. OR on those paychecks. Keep at it, we all find our creative niches, and there's plenty of niches in this industry... Even if it's just doing art for personal fulfillment!

No, Claymor, you are definitely right about the scale. I'm going to do some heavy re-scaling after I wake up... The sword needs to set the scale, also the characters must match the sword, and therefore the door... Pogmahone, you are dead-on about the glow. Fixed that in Maya, Bryce doesn't have glow-options... Any better? For anyone who cares, or would like to help me more on this Wheel of Time scene, here is some defining text from the books, especially Book 3, "The Dragon Reborn", in which this scene I'm trying to render takes place... **He shivered with the cold and knew this for a dream, certain and sure, from the first moment. He was dimly aware of some shadowy memory of dreams preceding this, but this one he knew. He had been in this place before, on previous nights, and if he understood nothing of it, he still knew it for a dream. For once, knowing changed nothing. Huge columns of polished redstone surrounded the open space where he stood, beneath a domed ceiling fifty paces or more above his head. He and another man as big could not have encircled one of those columns with their arms. The floor was paved with great slabs of pale gray stone, hard yet worn by countless generations of feet. And centered beneath the dome was the reason why all those feet had come to this chamber. A sword, hanging hilt down in the air, apparently without support, seemingly where anyone could reach out and take it. It revolved slowly, as if some breath of air caught it. Yet it was not really a sword. It seemed made of glass, or perhaps crystal, blade and hilt and crossguard, catching such light as there was and shattering it into a thousand glitters and flashes. He walked toward it and put out his hand, as he had done each time before. He clearly remembered doing it. The hilt hung there in front of his face, within easy reach. A foot from the shining sword, his hand splayed out against empty air as if it had touched stone. As he had known it would. He pushed harder, but he might as well have been shoving against a wall. The sword turned and sparkled, a foot away and as far out of reach as if on the other side of an ocean.**

Aye, that problem is easy to fix... What's happening is that your transmap isn't all the way white and black, meaning that the areas that are showing glowy white need to be black in the transmap. Most likely you need to set this object's material to "Blend Transparency", in the Material Editor. This screenshot will come in REALLY handy if I ever get this damn file to go through to your email, too, so make sure and save the image to disk somewhere... Hope this helps. If that doesn't fix it, that means your transparency map's cutoff areas aren't black enough, although they may appear black to the naked eye... (the Blend Transparency option tells Bryce to use an "Alpha Channel", or mask, instead of a glass-type transparency...)
