Exciting, isn't it. Nowhere does it say that Poser6 for OSX 3, would run with all new versions of every new OS. Tiger is NOT a service update. Please, give CL time to release their OSX 4 compatible version. This is not unexpected as Apple has widely stated that they are working with the GPU suppliers to ensure tight integration between OSX and their chips. This is taking OS graphics to the next level. Software that still relies on large amounts of very old legacy code will break, sooner or later. Look for a Poser 6, Tiger update coming soon(er or later). PS see the earlier thread and the Mac Forum and threads on other sites for more info, this is the hottest news around:-)

Another Good Blather, AGB;-) We may agree or disagree, but it's good to be thinking about these issues and not sweeping them under the carpet. Thanks

If you are looking to change your SW, then check out the PowerMac Dual G5's with the new 64bit OSX 4 (Tiger). Grrrr... It's worth a look. That would be my "Optimal Poser Rig".

(Poser 6, PC only) I would just like to point out that with Poser 6 and standard Poser Files, there is now no "PC only". I realise you meant not tested on a Mac, but it's a bit like saying "Women only" as it was only tested by women;-) This works fine with no changes on Mac OSX with Poser 6. Feel Free to now include the words: For Poser 6, OSX Ready, Tested by kaveman. Great product, great learning, thanks. PS Anyone wants products tested on OSX feel free to contact me;-)

Yes, .png contains an alpha channel and is fine for the individual frame files. Sadly, rendering to Quicktime doesn't retain the alpha channel, and the default Grey seems to comprises of 2 shades of grey so using it as a mask gives screened results. I haven't tried another "Green Screen" type colour yet, but there's no reason it shouldn't work. I use the Open Image Sequence of Quicktime Pro all the time, it's great for comparing subtle lighting changes across a range of renders. In P6, I find the slider in the render panel frightfully slow.

We have full backwards compatibility, but the "preferred" method is to use the standard files with the correct extensions. It's completely up to the Application how it reads in the files. The same goes for EOL markers, OSX will read the standard, Mac, Unix or Windows formats, if the App makes use of the correct calls. There is a LOT of confusion in this area with Content for Poser, and I still haven't found an OSX answer. Are the 2 versions of Poser now File compatible? I don't know about others but I'm not buying content because I don't know which version to buy. If I buy the Mac version, it's OS9 and a real pain to convert to OSX, if it's Win and they use an .exe "Installer" then the installer won't run, even if the files are compatible. Sadly the Mac Compatibility FAQ over at the Mac Forum is still OS9 centric and promotes products that aren't available on OSX.

Jim, that may be so for the old OS9 files but we've been standard UNIX for the 5 years. Any one still making Mac files for OS9 users is way out of date.

No, it's not an Apple problem. I would imagine it's due to how Poser parses it files and filenames. I would imagine I would be very unhappy if you put { in the filename also.

Wouldn't sinking to the lowest common denominator mean that they'd have to pander to the Trekies and Ewoks? My belief at this point, with all these tiresome, repetitive threads by the SF enthusiasts, is that they should do it like the RIAA does it. Meaning, no space images of any kind, no wasting time arguing with the Siths over whether it's salacious or not, and if the Trekies don't like it, they can go to one of the NASA sites. No ifs, ands or butts about it.

Could you provide us with some links, while I'm sure their sites will be tricky to navigate for us English only folks, it's always great to view the work of these great people.

What P5 or P6 files need converting? I thought we were file compatible now? Or is this just for stuff older than P5?

There's some weird file loading bugs. Have you checked that it loads ok in P5, this will check if the problem in the file or in the loading?
