Hey ,
I think this is a great idea and I would think the Study would be cool to try. Whatever you guys decide I will model something for this.
Thread: Poser 8 Content download | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks for the responses. I did get an email with the links and I remember them being time sensitive. The email was on my old computer which died a while ago so I can't get the email to look at. I did submit a support request with my serial number but haven't heard anything back yet.
The only figures that load in Poser 8 is the "Skeleton" figure. During installation it says it can't find the Content files and I don't see the standard Poser figures.
WandW, I will submit another ticket at Smith Micro suppoort with "John" in the Subject heading and I will check out the link you gave for the legacy content.
Thanks

hobepaintball,
This is some good information , to me that is pretty expensive per frame.
Thanks for posting this.

Hi rexus,
Right now I don't need any rendering done but we were looking to see what was out the with regards to renderfarms for carrara . Thanks for the generous offer of your renderfarm, it is nice to know that the carrara forum members are so willing to help out.
Thanks,
Mike

Hey Analog-x64,
That is a very generous offer. Right now the person asking me about a carrara renderfarm was looking at a dedicated renderfarm option so I would think it would be too much for your personal renderfarm for us to use.
I hope things go well setting up your render farm and new computer, sounds exciting for you. Don't pull out too much of your hair setting up your computer/renderfarm as I probably would if I would do something like that.

Hey Mark,
Thanks for the quick reply. He does seem serious about it as there is a long history when I do some searches on him but the website doesn't make me feel confident it is useable . Nice new avatar btw.

Konstantine,
Carrara will allow you to model the cars you want although the workflow may not be the best . I learned how to model with Carrara and still do my modeling with Carrara because it is familiar to me. I have modeled people and anything else I wanted with it and the fact that it is a full featured 3d app makes it a great app for me. Good luck with your modeler search.
Thread: When using Carrara's 3D paint, can one constrain the cursor to V or H? | Forum: Carrara
You can use the line tool and constrain that to horizontal or vertical using "Ctrl" or at least I think it is the "ctrl" key.

Thread: Cut through more polygons in one time | Forum: Carrara
Yes , now that you mention it I remember that . I wonder why I never use it......
I just checked and the Cut tool you mention works the same way as the Boolean Cut tool so the edges that you "cut" your line through(interior edges) get destroyed as well as cutting the object in half like was mentioned by ShawnDriscoll.
Thread: Cut through more polygons in one time | Forum: Carrara
I have asked before for a Knife or Cut tool but we didn't get one , oh well.
There is something that people may not know about the Extract Along command, it works well with polygons as well as edges. So select a group of edges, click the Extract Along command and click polygons and drag to extract edges and then finally scale edges to be zero in the appropriate axis.
You can do the same for your edge sample but you would have to weld the result with a very small tolerance as you would have vertices on top of each other at the Top and Bottom of your sample object.
Here is a pic of what I mean. Hope this helps.
Thread: Carrara modeling questions | Forum: Carrara
Hey Benign Lump,
You have received some good answers here which should get you going in the right direction . With regards to Poser models , I would export the model in OBJ format which is probably the best format for opening in most 3d programs.
When modeling in Carrara don't use "creased" edges to create sharp edges , try and create the sharp edges by using very small bevels instead. Poser 5 had issues with the smoothing angles but I think later versions of Poser you can specify what angle to crease the edges at so it is not as much of a problem. So, try and make the model look like you want in Carrara without using creased edges and they should export fine to OBJ.
Don't give up on creating characters in Carrara's VM room as I have modeled several realistic characters in the vertex modeler . Good luck .
