Knotplot is a modeler for weird, insanely complex knotwork... Enjoy!Thread: Dialup vs Broadband | Forum: Bryce
Burpee, try right-clicking the thumbnail and selecting, "Open in New Window". Then minimize that window and just let it load in the background! (PC instructions, I don't know anything about fruit-based calculating...) Depending on your RAM, you can have dozens of separate windows open and running in the background...

Nothing tense about it. Rayraz, you couldn't start it up AGAIN because it never ended. Sometimes I take for granted the freedom of speech that one supposedly has in America. Sometimes I feel the bitter tyranny of capitalism like a choker, a cage. We all do. Some people just get screwed over on things, it happens. I'll always speak my mind, I don't care if some richer wants to ban me for my thoughts. It's of no concern to me if some cash-chuckin richer wants to degrade or debase me by destroying things I care about. There's always a price to pay for our actions, best to just act as yourself, and pay the price later. I have no idea why this person has posted such a passive-aggressive message. Attention? Aberrance? Anger, most likely. I wish CrazyDawg well, regardless. He was always kind to me, and gave me good comments.

I'm staying far away from this one... Don't want to have to cut-and-paste all those damn gallery quotes over again...

Alas, Innovator, I couldn't get Maya to open your file. It said it was the wrong file size? I thought it might be a version discrepancy, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get the file to open... I'm frustrated with Maya a bit, but I'm not gonna let it stop me from figuring out how to use it better.

What DOES a process look like? We'll need microscopes, but I'm thinking you're on to something Diolma...!

I use Photoshop 7, it still has really bad compression techniques, no matter which save option... Here's the link for Image Optimizer, I'd use it anytime you'reposting to your gallery, or need to make a forum image small enough to fit...!Thread: darn computer or is it... | Forum: Bryce
The 400FSB tells you that it will support RAM up to DDR-400 (PC3200). My guess is that the jumper settings are wrong, Ang. I would check to see that it's not forcing DDR-2100. Also, I would not take that motherboard back, it's a great one. What you want is to change the FSB to 333...

Aye, Photoshop has the worst compression codecs around, they always have. At stock, how your image is in the gallery...? I downloaded the image to disk, opened it in Riptide, and went to "Save As". Riptide brings it up stock at : 304,586. Almost 200k below what you saved it at. That is with no compression loss at all. Riptide allows you to set your ouput size, and will convert any image to any other type. ANY image type. Well, it won't do Maya .iff files, but any OTHER type. So, if we wanted, we could convert your image down even farther. If I crank the 8-bit scale to "40", then your image size drops to 198,318, which is just small enough for the forums, for example. Again, no visible loss of quality. If you're interested in Riptide let me know and I'll dig up the link for it. Amazing program, it does batch processing as well. But don't let it worry you! Most people should, by now, be patient with the internet. If they aren't, they should learn a thing or two from Bryce's rendering engine!
Thread: Waterfall image update...final I think | Forum: Bryce
It's all about optimizing, Chohole! Considering the low resolution of the final image, you could, for example, get by without using super-high resolution terrains. Also, looking at the image, it calls for 6 land terrains. There are technical things aside, of course, but learning how to make a terrain do different things in different areas will lower your poly count cosiderably. What need for merging the files? Why are there more than one file? Even my smallest PC, and Athlon 2000 with 512MB RAM, would have no problem processing the scene. Not bragging, just stating the facts... I'm thinking that it's the trees that are eating you up. For trees that far away, there is no need for hi-poly trees...

I've re-installed my mouse drivers, and the mouse button is mapped to the correct button. It's a Maya thing. I'll re-install it, and see what happens...
Thread: Fire and Water | Forum: Bryce
Innovator, I am using Maya 6 Unlimited. It does have Ocean Shaders and whatnot, although I couldn't find the "High Seas" shader anywhere. I'm having a rough time with Maya, it's not finding my third mouse button, which every other program and even every game has no problem finding. SO I can't use Hypershade hardly at all, and there is no drag-and-drop functionality without the third, middle mouse button available. I would love the scene file! My email is my name @ yahoo.com. I will not plagiarize you with it, just study it and figure out how the Ocean shaders work...!
Thread: Fire and Water | Forum: Bryce
Yep, Innovator. I've playe around in Maya for about ten hours and come up with nothing in the way of water, in which you speak. It leads me to believe one of two things : 1. I'm inept. 2. You're a charlatan, and merely filmed water moving and called it Maya work. Note : these two possibilities are in cubic descending order of probability.

Innovator, that is simply amazing...! I really think I'm going about water the wrong way in Maya. Perhaps you'd email me the .mb file sometime? I'd really like to know what I'm doing wrong. Are you saying there's no need for Mental Ray when rendering those images and that movie?
