I'm with Djeser in not thinking it's a transparency issue. Try going into the material editor (F6) selecting the material that's the problem, then on the reflections tab alter the global reflectivity. Hope this helps.

If your computer is seeing the mats on the vue disk as bryce mats then perhaps it's an association issue. You may have to associate these files with something else. Having a quick look in my material folder, my computer reports all the original mats as microsoft access table shortcuts. I've not got bryce so I cannot tell. Other than an association thing I'm stumped, sorry.

RGB - Red Green Blue - is a color space not a save format. It has no difference when viewing on a monitor. It is different to CMYK when used in printing, but even then it's typically used in commercial stuff, not your average inkjet. A normal computer monitor should be quite capable of showing the full gamut of the RGB space as it is of CMYK, or indeed the color spaces of PAL or NTSC.

Tiff's or tagged image file format is a lossless format and so will not lose any image information when you move from one program to another. Jpeg or Joint photographic experts group, is a lossy format and will lose some detail as you compress it. However as Pmermino said you can alter the compression depending on the size vs quality you require. If you want the best quality, I'd save renders as .tif then import to photoshop or whatever and convert to .jpg Don't forget that each time you save a jpeg it looses more information until the compression artifacts are quite visible, so try to make the conversion to jpeg the last process. Having said all that, I agree with Pmermino that 70% jpeg is quite OK for the web.
Thread: what is DOF? | Forum: Vue
DOF = Depth of field. It means a field of distance that is in focus. Typically in a vue render everything from the nearest object to infinity is perfectly focused. This wouldn't normally happen in a real camera lens, so vue lets you simulate the effect of a real lens by having areas thrown out of focus. The instructions on how to use this effect are on pg63 of the manual, and as the manual goes arn't too bad. If you need any help just holla
Thread: just to let you know about Cinema 4D version 6 | Forum: Vue
Cheers Wabe, I've just checked and it's on sale from the 4th Sept. Me thinks I'll be camped outside WHSmiths on the 3rd. I've been looking for a modeller for ages and this looks like it could be a cheapish way into Cinema.
Thread: What's going on in the Vue gallery? | Forum: Vue
You are quite right in what you say about the online world mirroring the real world, there will, unfortunatly, always be an element of the disruptive when the site is this big and popular as it is. As for not feeling very comfortable here, I would just like to say that I feel quite the reverse, yourself and all the rest of the regular contributers to both the forum and the gallery make this site one of first that I visit almost every day. I also echo your comments concerning gebe, this forum couldn't what for anyone better. At the end of the day, this site is only as good as its contributers, and if certain artists decide to leave because of a small minority of idiots then the idiots have won. What is needed is as you say, vigilance.

Just a quick qualifier, your saying the view must be inside looking out, not outside looking in?

Congrats to all that entered, once again a very difficult theme has produced some quite excellent stuff. Pmermino and raffyraffy were at the head of a great bunch of images.

I've never tried rendering to the screen at a higher res than my screen res, why don't you create a blank scene, ie just the atmosphere and have ago? As to whether screen or disk is faster, dunno never tried, but once again why not try it yourself with a blank scene? I cannot think of a reason why the times should be that different, disk speeds and graphic cards speeds should be pretty irrelevent at the rendering stage.

Thread: Any Known crashing issues with Vue on Mac? | Forum: Vue
Just to let you know that the Mac's not the only one with crashes and stuff. On the pc I occasionally end up getting a box on the screen with one button marked OK, that's when I know everythings far from OK and my save file that should be 500mb is turned into a 15kb one. Oh how everytime it happens I laugh and chuckle out loud at the pure wit that went into coding that little gem.

Firstly, Thanks for the tut, I think this is the second tut of yours I've downloaded and it looks like it'll be very useful indeed. The only thing I'd comment on is that it's unprintable for me in its original form as it's on a black background with white or light coloured type. Have you considered doing what renderosity do and provide a printable version? I suppose it's testement to the quality of your tutorials that I take the time to reformat and recolour it into a printable form so that I'm able to follow it as I'm working. Anyway, thanks once again for taking the time, and putting in some obvious effort to produce these tuts for us all.
