Cool, Litst! I didn't know the trick about the Rectangular layer in the opacity mask. That's something to try! Ken
Thread: Creases in model | Forum: Carrara
Chris, From what I can tell, CS2 doesn't allow for creasing in the subdiv smoothing function (ss). Turn it off. Work with the model in straight vertex mode and do a few subdivides in a couple of strategic places then start to apply creases. The actuallity of it is that ss doesn't seem to allow for any creasing, hence smoothing. But it may take a bit of work. Incidentally, try changing the model you imported into a vertex mesh (edit-->convert to other modeller). In the long run, this is much easier. ken

knight, If the demo comes with the help PDF, it does contain a tutorial on animation with bones and the help of a model that is on the CD (unfortunately :( ). It is animating a character called "Spooky" who is a ghost. It's a good basic for setup and animation, though I have yet to explore the full range of boning a humanoid model. Definitely have to work on a tuto for that one! ken
Thread: Learning Link | Forum: Carrara
Chris, Understand that the influence process for bones only works if the model is a vertex model for C2. now you can convert the model in the modelling room, simply select the edit menu and then goto convert to other model. (sigh) Looks like another turn at tutorials is due. I have to expand on the ability to turn a model created in another app into C2 and then animate it. Looks like another week of sleepless nights, but that's the fun of it. ken
Thread: Upgrading from C1 to C2 | Forum: Carrara
Max, You get the full package, and a serial number, but the serial number is keyed as an upgrade so that when you register it shows you upgraded (I think). They do require that you show proof of a previous version, though, via voice or web. ken

Don't forget that 1.1 took away physics, and 2.0 has it back again!!! ken BTW Kix, almost finished with the tuto. Will let you preview when complete. K
Thread: Squash & Stretch for modelling and animation | Forum: Carrara
Chris, I am working on a tutorial that should be done by tonight for facial animation... It will be fairly comprehensive. Just couldn't get what I needed last night. Ken
Thread: C2 Stability | Forum: Carrara
Chris, Rather enjoying it, actually. The stability issues that Kix is experiencing is in areas that I haven't truly tapped yet. The functions that I have accessed (GI, Bones&Skinning, general system function), I have had no real problems. What I thought was a problem (system lock-up) was due to the fact that I had subdivide-smoothed a rather complex model farther than I should have. It cleared itself up in about 10 minutes I'm running an AMD K7-650, Matrox G450, and 256MB RAM on a Win2K platform. I'm sure that I'm going to encounter some problems soon, but for me it was a good move to upgrade. I'll just keep my ears to the ground for anything that might come up and post. Ken (God I love this emoticon!)

I guess we always feel that way with new software. MS is the same way and yet we seem to have some faith restored with the coming of a SP or bugfix. C'est la vie ken

Thanks litst, I may be able to whip up a basic tuto for the stuff that I have done. I might want to try using the free stuff that Quarbon viewlet builder to put it together. We'll see what happens. ken
