If you have Poser 4 or below, purchasing Poser 6 would be a great deal. If you have Poser 5, I would take the wait and see attitude, maybe wait for Poser 7 or 8. I do the same computers, went from Win 95 to WinXp (from 200MHz to 2Gigahertz). Heck, I do the same for everything I buy (except food and well--), especially automobiles-get great used ones with most of the bugs taken care of already. signed cheap, very cheap Plutom.
Thread: Hair stuck | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Agree with all, one of the easiest ways to select what you want to move (complex subjects) is open the hierachy menu and select the skull cap or the hair group you want to move, then the dials automatically come up. You can resize, twist, rotate, move,up, down, back, forward the selected part. By the way, you can grow hair on any part of the body you wish-hips for example, select the hips and do the same thing- resize, twist etc and better still, the hair is not stuck there, you can move the hair to any other part of the body using the same technique-try it, it's fun). You don't even have to worry about parenting-the hair follows what ever it is positioned to! Plutom

Thread: Hair Room-an exercise in futility... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
LOL, Been there: Try this: Make one group at a time, front, top, back, sides. Then you can select the group you want to style. That way there is nothing else to select, since the rest are in different groups. Plutom

Thread: Getting clothes to fit Stephanie 1 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
One other thing you can try (since your computer has limited resources). If you can get most of the clothing to fit (clothes with body parts showing through). Make a rendering of Stephanie naked (make clothes invisible. export to PSP PS etc as a tiff file-tiff files usually have alpha channels intact). Then, make Steph invisible and render just the clothes, export as a tiff file. Then, in your paint rendering program, bring up Steph, go to mask, click on alpha channel and on the form. (what that does is completely eliminates the background around the figure-no jaggies. Create a new layer, put it below the one you have, x it out, then merge the Steph layer-yes there are two layers there, Steph and the Mask, you just don't see two. Do the same for the dress. Now copy the dress to the Steph picture as a new layer, then adjust. It works-just don't tell people that you did it in anything but Poser--Wink. Now why the merging thing: If you don't- you will end up with just the mask-try not merging-you will see what I mean. Plutom
Thread: Requesting starting information for a very much newbie | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm very new to Poser 5 (Poser anything). I've found the easiest way to learn Poser is to read all the comments in this forum (well at least the last couple of months). Look at the Poser and VUE galleries for things that can be done with Poser. Then start with Judy, (I selected Judy instead of Don because if you want to adjust all his stuff, you will need a dictionary-unless you are into physical fitness or a medical student) go into the face room and just begin changing stuff, make the face younger, older, more female, less female, more or less European, African, Oriental, etc. Then click on the Actions' button Apply Shape Only (don't click on the Apply to Figure button-you can do that button later after you get your feet wet). Don't even try animation yet-Just work with the two rooms Pose and Face for a few days to get the kinks out-you will definitely know what I mean by kinks in a few hours. Plutom
Thread: How to mirror a pose? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well, if you have PaintShop Pro, PhotoShop, PhotoPaint etc, you can always do the mirroring there. If you don't have any of those programs, I recommend PaintShop Pro (costs under $90. The others cost $300 plus. PLUTOM
Thread: Jagged edges..whats the best way to keep from getting them?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I use PSP a lot on everything including getting rid of the jagged edges. For me, the free hand tool with point-to-point selected does an outstanding job (freehand tool looks like a lasso, just take your time and outline what you want to delete (make sure that the antialiasing box is checked or you are right back where your started). Hi folks, I have had very good results making hair in Poser 5 thanks to NeilP for tipping me off to the curl tool. With this tool, you select the hairs you want to manipulate, then you can translate, twist, scale etc. It's not for the squimish--takes a lot of trial and error. After a several hours of practice, Excedrine, choice words, you can create beautiful hair. With clothes, I have had a tiny bit of success with one primitive, the square cloth, you can drape it over, say Judy, and make toga type dresses beginning at the neck, chest, hips (depending on what you have selected for the cloth to collide against.) It may not have the beauty of the clothes for sale or some of the freebies, but it's yours. With a lot of practice-hours in fact- you may like the results. Plutom
Thread: Poser 5 memory requirements? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi gang, I really think that the CPU and BUS speeds are the main things. When I did a test rendering, I check my performance and also monitored my physical memory usage. My 2.0 GHZ CPU was flatlined at 100% while I still had around 100K of RAM left (I have 512K too). There is a way to increase rendering speed, but its not pretty. One is to purchase a coprocessor card ($3000)or use several computers linked in tandem with each other (the ILM Render Farm thing). In the former, the coprocessor takes all the graphics rendering load off the CPU. One can check the computer performance by doing a CNTRL-ALT-Del (once)and click on the performance tab-the graph and other data shows a lot-Plutom Plutom
Thread: Hair help needed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Neil, Yep, we are talking Poser 5 and the olde hair room-definitely will give the curl tool a try (after my Excedrin takes hold). That was one of my problems, the bend in the hair started too far out from the scalp. Yes, its miserable getting the hair to go in any direction that is not down, straight out or straight up. Thanks! Thread: p5sorry to be a pain | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've encountered this problem too--I think. Since you modified Judy in the face room, you may selected Apply to figure instead of "Apply Shape Only". When I did the Apply to figure button, I couldn't change lip color, eye color etc and the eyebrows were those of the face room. When I selected Apply Shape Only, the eye brows came back and I could change everything. Plutom
Thread: Conforming, Dynamic Clothing | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
That's a very good question, I'd like to know too. However, me thinks it's a bigger process. Plutom
Thread: Hi: Dressing Problems. Can someone help? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I agree with ArtyMotion, there are two completely different types of clothing-Clothing that conforms and clothing that is dynamic--it looks like you are trying to conform dynamic clothing. I think you must use the cloth room for dynamic clothing. This is a great site to go to for learning how to do it-www.render-lab.com/Dynamic_Clothes.htm. Just 13 simple steps. Plutom
