It's just losing its overall sharpness, and I've tried sharpening it before I save it but that doesn't seem to work. I don't understand what you mean by save to web, though, can you elaborate? I'm also using paintshop pro 9, so you know....

I very much appreciate your help....however, there must be someone out there who knows a little more about this, or knows some of the tricks....I'm just trying to make the most distant objects in a picture blurry, while retaining the clarity of the other objects. I tried choosing all objects save the ones I wanted blurry, then using the "set to current selection", but then everything became blurry. Also, it seems once you change the numbers they stay that way....is there a way to reset them. I'm having a bit of trouble explaining myself about this subject, but any information is helpful.

Thanks, death at midnight....I kept wondering if my picture lists were actually gone. I was able to load them but then they always disappeared. So I searched out the picture I used the old fashioned way (i.e., from my desktop) and now it seems to be OK. Thanks so much!!!!!!!

In answer to your question, AgentSmith, both. When I edit the texture the nano preview is black and when I render it as well. This never happened to me before. At first I thought it was just this one picture, but now it happens whenever I try to use pictures for textures.

Thanks everyone for your help! Turns out system restore worked and I was able to reinstall 5.5....hopefully now I can reinstall 6.1 as well!

One thing I wanted to clarify....the texture I used in this picture was not specifically made for the pre-existing model. It's from a picture I took. On the tree trunk on the left it conforms pretty naturally to it, except at certain points on the roots.
Thanks, rickymaveety for your suggestions about UV mapping. Honestly, don't know much about that at all, but I will try to learn. I'll have to download UV mapper classic and play around with it.
