Personally, I make extensive use of Bryce's mask render feature to silo objects and figures onto new layers. I learned that trying to create a truly glowing laser blast or explosion is very difficult to do in Bryce. So, I'll put in a space holder with the right color (for background reflections and such) and mask that out and do it in Photoshop. The Starry Ones demands 15 panels a week, and production tricks like this are the only thing that allows me to produce it. I also find myself "fixing" some of the weirdness that pops up as the Poser characters turn and twist, adding a highlight or enhancing a shadow. Careful though, cause you can end up in a situation where nothing is ever actually finished. Mitch WaxmanThread: Help: Warp Engine Glow in Bryce 3.1 - How? | Forum: Bryce

also, try setting specular color to the glowey color. Then set it to not cast, receive, or self shadow. MitchThread: looking street / building objects.. | Forum: Bryce

Yes, I too suffer in the town that Giuliani conquered. Smack dab in Manhattan, surrounded by billions of tons of cement. This has to be the most wholly manmade place on earth. God, I need a vacation... Mitch 3:30 am, still working... uhhhhhhhhnnThread: bryce to poser | Forum: Bryce

Yes, but it is hinky, at least on the mac. Terrains and ... ahh (what do you call the double sided terrain thingie again?) only. Export in lo res wavefront format (big file chokes poser dead) and import into Poser. Create the poser figure, and wallah- a month of your life is gone! On my home page, and at the 3d comic collective, is a Poser figure called Nergal. I did him this way. Also, in the Starry Ones we have a group of monsters called the Raga I alo did using this method. Y'know, your all being very mature in your suggestions. Get outside, digital artist. Forget about everything at home. If it ain't coming, ya can't force it. Have a drink or talk up a girl or run through town screaming. I know from experience that if you can't get your mojo up, its because your mind is hungry for experiences to process into art.

Actually, Carrara-wise, if you swing over to Mac Central, you'll find some news about Adobe partnering up with Metastream. Mitch http://www.weirdass.net

For the epson, or any inkjet, the resolution for photgraphic imagery doesn't have to be higher than 200 DPI or so. However, keep in mind real printing on a press. I do everything at 300 DPI, convert it to CMYK, and then spawn JPEG's and tiffs off of the original art.

Uhhh... I've tried uploading images a couple of times, including today at 4 est. The normal process goes on and then doesn't appear in the bryce gallery. Is this part of the larger server issues? Good luck guys, opening the lid and poking around inside the magic box scares the hell out of me. For all I know, Apple sent me a very smart hamster with an abacus. Mitch www.weirdass.net
Thread: The BIG question: The cost of art? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The question boils down to usage. A one time fee (printed once in a certain market, twice in a second, once in a third) is usually what most people work with. The system of pricing for this was defined by the stock photo houses and the illustrator and designer agents picked up on this. (ie you charge more for art that the client will be using forever, in a variety of web/print formats). Less, for say the graphics on a website or magazine that turns over every month (one time usage). 2 things to watch out for- working for comp and a client without a secretary/office/staff. Both are wrning signs of someone with not much more money than you. Also, don't be humble, ask for a lot, a lot more than you want or feel you deserve. The worst thing tht can happen is they say no (my dating philosophy as well). Either you're lucky and the client will foot your bill, or they'll haggle you down to budget. The proper profesional response to "how much" here in New York City is "whats your budget like". I usually frame my price in the context of... ok for that money, i can give you x, y, and z. However, you're still looking at x amount for production and massaging the final revisions. I then name an appropriate price for the rest. Be honest, look them straight in the eye, and if you can't do something- say so. my attitude is always- They want to use me, great, if not, theres always Wunderman. mitch
