Well, I must be a complete idiot because I can't even export a cr2 from DAZ, let alone find the option in Crossdresser to convert from genesis. DAZ keeps telling me failed to export the cr2 and that's it.

That is, of course, your decision, but I would encourage you to peruse the manual where the material room is explained. There are also video tutorials on this very site. Your version will become obsolete at some point and future versions of Poser won't change this back I don't think.
And it is very easy to pull a texture in from a folder on your computer. You literally can drag and drop and then connect it.

I honestly just went with as is and I never had to bother with adjustments. Poser 13 is lighting fast with that video card.

I can't reproduce what you are seeing after latest update. Textures load normally, render times are same, cache is gone. I worked in Poser for hours last night.
