Thread: Help with using Merchant Resource morphs in Daz Studio | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Hi Dustrider, yeah I checked all of that. For some reason it will only work for me if I export to my modeller, export out as .obj from there and then reimport as morph in DS. Not sure why it was going wrong but I can work with it as I want to make my own modifications any way.

Oh, and the irritation of having to install Runtime content though DAZ Install Manager now--oh, my! LOL!
This is such a myth - I never use DIM - I install Poser stuff where I want it manually. You don't need DIM to install poser content in Daz Studio. Just extract the product zip to wherever is convenient then copy/move over the Runtime files to the Runtime folder in Daz Studio on your computer. Simple:)

Thread: An idea we may want to consider | Forum: Bryce
I think it's a really nice idea, but I think there would be an awful lot of considerations, such as which pictures should be included (and who would decide this? Also there could be disagreements between the purists and non-purists about those). In addition who is the target market for the book and how would you reach them if the idea is to 'show the world' Bryce and what it can do. It's all well producing a book but it needs to be found by whoever it's aimed at - the marketing would be the key. I'm not poo-pooing the idea, I just wonder how successful it would be in terms of that objective. It'll be a nice book for us Bryce die-hards but it's not us the book is aimed at (from the original post).
A better way might be to produce a magazine - someone did have an idea for that a two or three years ago I think (I even submitted some pics for it) but nothing came of it. A magazine might gain more interest and tempt more people into trying Bryce (which is what we want, to expand the user base) by featuring tips & tricks, tutorials, examples of great work etc. Even doing that it could be a lot of work which I expect would need to be done for free, and would take a lot of time and commitment to keep it going. It might gain more support and following though the Bryce forums here and at DAZ as it would have the potential to attract regular reader and spur more interest in Bryce.(oops editing gone a bit wrong on the text there...)

Thread: C ya | Forum: Bryce
I understand some of the comments, but I think the galleries have to be viewed for what they are - a space for anyone to upload what they create. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, whether its 'good' or 'bad' (always subjective to a point). I would hate to see the web with just galleries of the more experienced such as CGArena or 3DTotal. I've had the pleasure of viewing some fantastic art here (and fantastic doesn't necessarily equal technically superb) which I've really enjoyed - art that without places like this I would not have access to. Also, places like Rendro can be an inspiration for less experienced folk to improve if they want to, or just to have fun with their hobby (that's just what it is for most people on this site, and nothing wrong with that).
I personally would not want to interact with those on other sites that deride this one because of the less experienced levels of art. That's just plain snobbish and ignorant in my opinion. Also, everyone had to start somewhere -no one came out of their mother's womb being able to make 'perfect' art! And not everyone has an artistic eye, so 'improvement' technically or compositionally may be slower than for others - or maybe they are happy at whatever level they are at.
I do think it's not helpful if people can't comment critically. I think the problem may be that not everyone knows how to critique without making it sound harsh - and words can be easily misinterpreted, that's the nature of the medium. Perhaps Rendro should have a page on tips on how to critique in the right way. I would think most people if critiqued in the right tone would not take offence.
Just my two pence worth:)
Thread: We need to insure Bryce Survives | Forum: Bryce
I think the death bell has already tolled. Why would a new user want Bryce? With some google research, anyone first entering the CG world would recognize the rendering gap has closed and yes Terragen would be a cost effective front runner. It would take more than the easy to learn interface to sway me if I were a first time buyer.
If making a product free, or nearly so, didn't flood the world with Brycers, what else is there that could attract a "wave of new users". If a savy buyer were to investigate they would find the newest releases were buggy and for every new feature added an older feature was lost to bugs and crashes. Just search this forum for that information.
I love my Bryce but I also understand it has died a painful death and ressurection spells don't seem to work. Sorry if that is not your opinion but I have shed my last tear over this.
The reason I think a new user would want Bryce is because of the ease of learning it compared to other software out there, with the ability to get some really great results (e.g. water, lighting). If I was new to 3D I would be intimidated by Poser, Blender and other apps which have interfaces it takes ages to work your way round finding things, and working out how to do stuff. In addition it can import props from DAZ Studio (very handy).
What I do think has not helped Bryce is that it is marketed as a landscaper generator, but it can be used for so much more. I will be really very very sad if Bryce in no longer developed - I use it for all my artwork and don't like other applications to use for this because of it's ease of use. I know how to use DAZ Studio, but I like the the 'look' I can get with Bryce much better.
I don't think it needs that much to improve from where it is - stability of some features is the main thing I think.

Quote - There is a goup of some size on Delphi Forums that is sort of in between 'osity and Daz. A lot of the old brycers hang out there.
Great reminder thanks - haven't visted that forum in a long while.
Thread: Roll Call | Forum: Bryce
I'm still around after a few years of being on Rendro, but I havent' hardly touched Bryce in the last year or so due to life getting in the way - so I did have a little tinker the other day, spurred on by the 15 min challenge, and just did a basic image:

I can't believe I last posted in 2011...still a diehard Bryce fan though
