Okay, after work today I did what I probably should have done from the start: made a backup copy of my Poser Pro 11 install, then reinstalled in the original folder using the final PP11 version, and that seems to have corrected the issue!
Thread: Making Back Faces of Polygons Invisible When Rendering in Firefly? | Forum: Poser 11 / Poser Pro 11 OFFICIAL Technical

Thank you!!!ÂIn render settings put a check on "Remove backfacing polys". On the object properties select "Force Hide Backfacing Polys". Only works for FF.
NATURALLY I was trying to overcomplicate things!
It actually even worked in my test piece with "Obey Figure Setting" instead of "Force Hide Backfacing Polys," too.
Thanks again! It was so much simpler than I feared it would be!
Thread: Pose file (MAT) that only affects certain nodes... (Poser 11 Pro) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

Try this.
Left click
New Node
Root
Poser Surface (should be just Firefly)
Connect all your maps and what have you to this new root and run the mat pose you made. See if it works then.
I'll give it a try (and try to post a screen shot of the settings as Randym77 suggested) once I finish some homework (going back to college after way too many years....) and get through a long day at work tomorrow....thanks for the advice, everyone!

Does it render all black, too?
Yep, and while investigating further, I found a older MAT pose I'd made that didn't turn black in the preview, but still rendered as black...

Check the Material Room for node connections that are dashed lines. They indicate node incompatibility connections; either the nodes in question need to be rerouted, replaced, or deleted.
No dashed connections in the Material Room
However, I just found that I'd bought Mytilus' "Wet Skin" package; it works, and even though it uses its own texture maps for the underlying skin texture, I think that looking "under the hood" may help me figure out how it's done....
Thread: Editorial Tab | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Yes, many of my favorite creators put very important information about their products in the Editorial tab (such as the morphs included in clothing figures, or even ALL the details about the product except for the referral to the tab) and have sparse details (if any) in the Description tab. This is causing me to defer a lot of the purchases I'd likely be making if not for this lack.
