Yeah, you're right Silverblade, the default action is unwelded and it gives you the option to weld near the end of the import. Leaving it unwelded dispite the massive list of objects it generates is better on memory. I've tried to import objects with no textures in the range of 2 million polys or so and I get memory errors but if I split the 2 million poly object into smaller objects Vue becomes able to handle it.

When you import the poser figures into Vue, don't weld them into a single mesh. The Vue memory manager has trouble with high poly objects. However, if you can break them down into smaller pieces, you won't have any trouble.

Aeires; Thanks for the response. When I made the comment "Either create a fractal or create art", I didn't mean a raw fractal couldn't be art. It very well can be. I was refering more to the creation process.
Thread: Post work | Forum: Fractals
I've met enough people who didn't know what fractals were to realize it's not about how you got there. I'm a total fractal geek but I know art lovers don't care about how complex my formula was, or how many iterations it took to achieve my level of detail, or whether or not I created my piece using a single layer or fifty layers. They care about what it looks like at the end of it all. They only care about the final product and that's all that matters. Either create a fractal or create art. However, don't create art with a bunch of magic rules, restrictions, and boundries in an effort to impress a small niche of people who may have an underlying appreciation for your work. It only puts a damper on your creativity. Be free.

Colour Lasers will print up to 11x17 visible on a 12x18 sheet. If you want to go higher than that, you need to find a "large format" printer as you mentioned. Used for professional art reproduction, this is known as Large Format Gicl printing and can be very expensive and more difficult to find than the standard array of colour lasers.

Your printing should look fairly close to what you see on your screen. Many times, people have their monitor set too bright. The computer doesn't know or care about the source of the image when it prints. In other words, it doesn't know the difference between a photograph and a fractal. It's all just pixels. What program do you use to print? I suggest Adobe Photoshop. As for Timbuk2, don't print from a JPG. Make sure you render your fractals to a lossless format like BMP to ensure maximum quality. For both of you, here is the acid test. Take your BMP fractal file to a copy center and have it printed out there on a colour laser printer. Have it printed on quality card stock. I use the Xerox DocuColor CS50 for all my work. I find it produces the most vibrant results because of the type of ink it uses. Compare your results with what you see on your screen. This kind of printing is accurate and very inexpensive. PS: Printing full quality colour images on card stock using your own printer is much more expensive.

Your resolution could be a little higher. First of all I would suggest 2400x3000 for an 8x10. 1) Are you printing using your own printer or a commercial one? 2) Do you print your photography from your computer screen or straight from the camera?

Keep in mind Apophysis creates a special kind of fractal called a flame fractal. This is a completely different style of fractal art than traditional Mandel/Julia type manipulation. It's best to decide what kind of fractals you'd like to begin with. Most of my work is done using Ultra Fractal 3 but I do use Apophysis as well. The image link above is an example of art that uses both UF3 and AP.Thread: Looking to purchase Mind-Boggling Fractal program. | Forum: Fractals

Yeah, I actually took a look at that earlier. Interesting stuff. It shows there are as many styles within fractal art as people creating it. A lot of fractal artists that post their work here have developed their own personal style to a point where I can look at a new peice and tell who the artist was. That's a great thing.

Is this product still supported? Send me a link so I can check it out. I would investigate using "Ultra Fractal 3" in the mean time. There is a demo you can download. I highly recommend this program.
Thread: Making Prints with Vue, resolution needed??? | Forum: Vue
Many times when you attempt a large render you'll get an "out of memory" error. This will happen variably depending on the complexity of your scene. In other words, the more complex your scene, the more limited your render size. However, by using the "select render area" option you can have renders of unlimited size. When using "select render area" for a final render you must render to screen. In the resolution fields, enter the final dimensions of the image you want. Vue will calculate the size of your selection in relation to your overall requested render size. In a nutshell, the concept is to have Vue render smaller pieces of your image which can be re-assembled in a program like photoshop later. Divide your picture up into as few pieces as your memory can handle with plenty of overlap.

BTW, "Nesidara" is my GF and I logged her off and logged myself in, but for some reason my original post still came up as her.

Ah man! "SAVE FOR WEB" lol, I was using "SAVE AS" and fiddling withe the JPG options as I thought they performed the same task. How embarrasing! Thanks for the tip. It's true I'm new to Photoshop being a PSP user for many years.
