It doesn't matter how you choose to create an image or what methods you use. 3D apps, 2D apps, scanned drawings, photo's, blood, sweat, coffee, whatever. Throw it all in if you have to. If the image looks good, it looks good, no matter what road you choose to get there.

Thread: Your Say: D/Studio or Poser | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I started out with Poser 4, then moved up to 5 and more recently 6. However, I started using DazStudio about a week ago and it's been like a breath of fresh air. Poser has got so bogged down over the years that it's become like trying to work in a bath of molasses. DazStudio is so much faster, easier, intuitive, and more fun to use. I'm still experimenting with DS right now and as I never render in Poser (and don't intend to render in DS either) I have been experimenting with .obj exports to other programs (Carrara and Bryce). There are some excellent export options in DS and so far so good. I find Poser so unenjoyable to use that I would love DazStudio to replace it in my workflow and the price of DS cannot be argued with either.

Thread: What criticisms of Poser are valid? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I find the whole brand loyalty thing a bit odd. Personally, I'll use whatever I can. I'll throw everything I've got at the screen if it get's me the image I'm looking for. Some people actually look down on postwork, like it's a bad thing. Hell, even the term 'post-work' itself is an odd one. It's all artwork, It's just a matter of doing what it takes to get the art out of your head and onto the screen. By hook or by crook. Posers just a tool and simply learning how a tool works does not make good artwork. Composition, lighting, colour, drama, these things make good artwork. It's not that some images "look Poser" per-se, it's just that some images have been rendered without any thought to traditional knowledge of what makes good art (like Composition). I think some people frown upon 'Poserish' artwork, not because it was produced with Poser, but because a lot of images look like the artist has simply opened Poser up and relied on the software to do all the work for them. If you're artwork suffers because it "looks Poser" chances are you don't need to flip though the manual or find another light tutorial, chances are you need to get your butt to a public art gallery, look at some oil paintings, do some research on art in the library, and put a pencil in your hand, Sketch some ideas. You don't need to be great with a pencil, just sketch some crude compositional sketches, then think about opening the software to start an image. When I look at other peoples images I'm not bothered if it was created in Poser, or Painter, or Photoshop, or Carrara, or Bryce (apart from technical artistic curiosity of course). I'm only really concerned whether their image is good art, powerfull art, something that grabs my interest. It's all about producing good artwork. It doesn't matter how you get there or what tool you use.

Thread: Morphs vanish after importing with transposer | Forum: Carrara
Hi Mark. I'm using Mike 3 and the Millenium Dog (both in the same scene, both with the same problem). When I imported it into DazStudio I got the same problem, so this lead me to think perhaps the file was somehow corrupt. Sure enough, I started a new Poser scene, tested a few morphs, and they came through with Transposer just fine. Wierd stuff. I hope it doesn't happen again because I spent a lot of time on a Poser scene that I can't use. On the plus side, this problem forced me to play around with DazStudio for a while (exporting scenes as OBJ files for Carrara). I have to say, I was quite impressed. DazStudio is a lot easier to use and much less sluggish than Poser in many ways. I cannot go back and re-pose my figures like I can with Transposer, but often times I get the pose right and don't need to. It's always good to have a few varied tools in your artbox.

It looks good DustRider , however, I am using a Mac & Objacation Scaler appears to be a Windows only application.

Thread: Object appers tiny in Modeller room | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for tha advice guys.
DustRider: I have found that manually inputting a value on import makes the object large in the assemble room but it is still remains really tiny in the model room (no matter what value I input).
trav: If I scale the model up in the model room it also scales up in the assemble room. So I end up with a massive model in the assemble room (which is not practical)
The problem is the disparity in size between the assemble room & the model room. In the aseemble room it can be really quite large but still miniscule in the model room.
I have found that I get more practical results using the transposer plugin, so I will have to use that for now. However, it would be nice if I could work this problem out because a simple .obj import is sometimes preferable to me than a Transposer one. This way I can change some of the vertex import parameters depending on the type of work I am doing (allowing me to select polymesh parts by name etc.).

I have nothing against nudity at all. I have no kids, I work from home & I have a healthy interest in the female form. I Just find the endless nudes on renderosity boring. I think the reason that there is so much nudity in the poser galleries is because its easier than putting on clothes (clothes that you have to buy or model & make fit). Its easier to launch Poser, click on victoria, click a texture, click various poses & put out half a dozen renders. It's harder to make an interesting digital image that may take several weeks to accomplish. Its laziness more than anything else. However, that is not a blanket description of all the nudes on renderosity, some of them really are quite amazing. There is a vast difference between someone who wants to create a magnificent nude piece & someone who has just pointed their mouse & rendered.

Thread: Saying Thanks to DAZ | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Err.....they are a shop... they sell stuff & we buy it........um....er.......Thanks.....I guess. Daz make some nice products. I have bought & used quite a few of them. I only once had a query about one & they promptly Emailed me a fix. It's a great service, I can't complain. I think people here feel the need to thank Daz because Poser has become quite a fulfilling & consumong hobby for them. Why is there not thread to thank Curious Labs though? They are people too, with familys etc. This is a really odd thread, but if it makes people happy then thats Ok.
