Actually I just downloaded it and it didn't work. Maybe it's becuase I'm running OS X and it isn't compatible with classic mode. I'll try booting into OS 9 tommorow, hopfully that is all it will need to work correctly.

Thanks! I was afraid I was going to have to hack RSR files or resource forks or something. I know the Pro Pack uses PNG files straight up which would have been a great thing for Poser to have already done. I don't know why they went with a more limited less cross-platform way of doing things.
Thread: Bryce-Rendering Speed Benchmarks-Mac and Win? | Forum: Bryce
As far as mac/windows benchmarks go I can't answer, I have an 800mhz mac and a 400mhz windows machine. I will say that running Terragen via windows emulation under Linux renders twice as fast as running it natively in Win98 on the same machine, the UltraHLE N64 emulator was also a few fps faster on Linux in emulation mode. Windows is a huge resource hog, so it's probably not the best OS to choose to pit Intel vs G4. As far as multiple programs, I have alot. I use electric image 3d toolkit for alot of modelling, but there are also alot of times where I really need a polygon based modeller, and Blender fills that role. I have amorphium but haven't used it a huge amount, it's great for organic stuff, and for beating up objects and making them look worn and torn. I use UV Mapper to do my texture mapping because neither Electric Image nor Blender exports texture data into a file format that plays nicely with others. I use a Nendo clone called Wings3d for alot of the realtime graphics I do for video games. I'm currently looking at Bryce and Vue d'Esprit for their outdoor abilites, The EI Universe upgrade for it's rendering ability (I'm already familiar with the program and it integrates with quicktime movies very nicely), and of course Poser 5. Not sure which one I'll go with although I'm really thinking it'll be EI. Vue won't load my OBJ files correctly. Bryce's big strongpoint is that it is much easier to get Poser to work with Bryce than it is EI. I like the interface to EI better than most 3d programs I've used though. I hated Cinema4d's interface and Bryce/Vue seem better suited to layout than modelling. EI does both fairly well. I don't find poser clunky at all. In fact if you go to the product forum and look at my picture posted there, all of those objects were assembled in Poser. The individual pieces were modelled in EI, Blender and Amorphium, but they were assembled entirely in Poser. I'm sure all 3d software is really just about getting used to it though. I was rather scared of Blenders interface before I learned how to use it, now I think it is brilliant.
Thread: Mac and PC | Forum: Poser Technical
I realize that mac converter works both ways, but if I CONVERT a mac file to a PC file, then it will be a PC file and won't work on Mac, right? So how do I distribute a set of PC/MAC files without doubling the download size with a seperate file for each system? There are lots of PC/MAC downloads here on renderosity. I downloaded a few and they all only have one set of files. Care to point me to some references on the pp2 file format so I can change it to work with obj files?
Thread: Obj import | Forum: Vue
Ok, I'll try the pict, maybe there is an issue with tiff. I know about editing the files by hand, but can't do it that way on the mac. The stupid textedit program insists on saving my mtl file as a richtext, even though I told it to save all new files as plain text only. It seems to think it is a simpletext document and won't give me the option to save as plain text. I just love the way Mac and Windows go out of their way to make things "easier" on you. I guess I'll try opening it in one of the UNIX text editors that come with OS X next time I don't feel like opening poser just to edit an OBJ.
Thread: Obj import | Forum: Vue
I don't think changing it to pict would help, vue apparently can't read png files and when I had the obj use a png file it compained. When I switched to tiff, which it can read, it quit complaining. It didn't load the texture apparently but it did quit complaining. It would help if the e-on software tech support was easier to get a hold of. If the bryce demo turns out to be everything I want I may get that instead, or maybe I'll just wait for Poser 5. Still it'd be nice if my models worked in more than one 3d app. I don't suppose I can be expected to do more than to provide a standard obj file though.
Thread: Obj import | Forum: Vue
Yep, it's set to object space. When I load the obj the texture doesn't come with it. I have to ctrl click on the material and load the image in from there. Is this the standard way of having to do things? Maybe I have to put the obj file and it's texture into a certain directory or something? I'm downloading the Bryce demo now to see if it'll work in that. I was really surprised that both Cinema4d and Vue had problems. Obj files are straightforward enough for me to look at them and see that they are fine, I don't know what Vue's hangup could be. I tried to email their tech support and see what they said but I couldn't find a way to email them from their website. All they let me do is search the knowledge base which didn't have any answers. When I clicked on contact a technician it sent me right back to the knowledge base search results.

Hi Huolong, I was thinking of doing that, the textures for the bamboo and the wood include the texture for the rope/vine that is used to assemble the pieces, so there would probably be a little construction kit inluded. That would contain the wood (or bamboo), the rope torus, and instructions on how to assemble objects. I did all of the assembly of those objects in poser so it really is quite easy, and that will allow people to create matching objects that they may want and I didn't model out. My other computer is still broke, which is slowing me down because it's the only one with a copy of blender that has the decimate function, which I need to finish a stump I am working on. That will probably be the first set, A log cabin A stump (for sitting people, things on) The bench above The campfire logs above A pier and a raft that can also be used as a pier extension With the log construction kit included as well. That will be all of the things that I plan on building with the wooden logs so people won't have to download the same texture more than once for those.

Thanks Jackson, it's good to know that people are interested, helps keep the motivation up! Sadly the machine I use to create the texture is having memory problems and behaving very badly (random crashes, lockups, etc) so I'm limited to working with the textures I've got until I get it fixed, hopefully that will be tommorow, but I dunno. I can still get a fair amount done with the textures I've got though...actually I've got an old linux box sitting here with a busted fan that should run fine long enough to make a texture or two. Either way look for something from me in the Marketplace soon, I hope to get a few of the smaller packages done in a day or so.
