"1.) Being that this is an art site, there are expectations placed upon us to have the site utilize a more graphical interface rather than remaining plain and simple." Yes, but first and foremost, this is a WEBSITE. Usability issues have to come before making it "pretty". "Plain and simple" text links may be "boring", but they are much faster than 27 graphics. Heck, if you want a more graphical interface, why not get it over with and make the site one big Flash animation? You can get a much slicker UI that way.

What if we looked at this from the site's point of view? They are now serving 27 graphics per person per page. Let's assume that 1/2 the people that are currently online are able to cache the graphics. Heck, let's assume 75% of the people. Right now, there are 1,600 people online (rounded). 75% of 1,600 is 1,200. That means that 400 people are not caching these 27 graphics, which means that the site has to re-serve the graphics every time they load a page. Now, how big are those graphics? Each one looks to be less than 1k. Let's assume the total is 25k. This means that 400 people, per page, are having to reload these graphics. This means that 10,000k (or 10M) of bandwidth traffic is being used just to serve these graphics. Is this really more effecient than simple, text links? Obviously, Renderosity must have bandwidth to spare, if they want to use it up by serving these graphics.
Thread: OMG.. Help! :( | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
If you're new to Poser, here are some suggestions: 1) Which version of Poser are you having trouble with? The screen shot in d-larsen's post shows Poser 5. But, are you using Poser 4? Granted, the command is the same: Windows, then hide (or show) Paramter Dials. 2) If you want even better help from people, posting a message with a more descriptive subject line will get you much better replies. "OMG Help" will not get the same responses as "Help- the head controls don't appear". 3) Restarting the computer will not cause a program's settings to magically change. When you show (or hide) a palette, that information is saved when you close the program. Restarting the computer (then restarting the program) only reloads your previous setting... which was to hide the parameter dials. If the program is "dumb" and doesn't remember your preferences, then you only need to close and re-open the program to reset the settings. There's no need to completely reboot your computer.
Thread: Poses wrecking Character morphs...Help | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Like most computer-related things, always think, "If I do X, what will happen to my project", such as "If I that new piece of clothing, will Poser give an error about an obj file that isn't there and delete my character?" The solution: 1) Before applying ANY pose, go to Edit, then Memorize, then Figure. If the pose wrecks your character, go to Edit then Restore then figure. 2) SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. If your character is important, ALWAYS save the file before changing a pose, adding clothing, and so on. 3) Go through ALL of your poses: apply them to a stripped V2 (or M2) and then save the poses to the library without morph information. Why do merchants save pose files with morph information? Ask the merchants who do this. Ask the testers who don't catch this (or who allow it to go through, untested).

Ask and ye shall find. Here's a mesh of Kermit the Frog for sale at Turbo Squid. While you're at Turbo Squid, be sure to pick up some Star Trek ships (for sale), some Star Wars characters (for sale), and some Disney characters (also for sale). These companies probably won't come after you, the customer. Heck, they don't even seem to be going after TurboSquid!Thread: What does the cancel button cancel? 8( | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You don't have to restart your machine to kill Poser. Here's how: 1) Open Task Manager: hit Ctrl-Alt-Del or right-click the Taskbar and select Task Manager. 2) Click on the "Applications" tab. 3) Click on Poser and click the "End Task" button. Normally this works, but if Poser is off doing it's thing, then it may just sit there. If that happens, do this: 4) Click on the "Processes" tab. 5) Look for "poser.exe" 5a) If you can't see it, click on the CPU column to sort by CPU usage: Poser is probably the highest. 6) Click on poser.exe and click the "End Process" button. 7) Windows will complain about how this is bad and you shouldn't interrupt a program, yadda, yadda, yadda. Click "yes" or "ok" or "do it anyway" and Poser will die immediately. Then, re-open Poser and go about your business. :)

And Kirk never said, "Beam me up, Scotty". If Kirk was alone on the planet, Spock would beam him up. ("Beam me up, Mr. Spock."). If Kirk was on the planet with a landing party, it would have been "Beam us up, Scotty."
Thread: How to become a merchant? | Forum: Community Center
To become a merchant, upload a product. To upload a product, click the "Upload Product" link under your Merchant Options. If you don't see an option for "Merchant Options", you will need to upload a product to become a merchant and activate these options. If you have any trouble accessing these features, please post your question in the Merchants Forum. This forum can only be accessed by current merchants, so make sure you have uploaded at least one product to become a merchant.
Thread: Kinda off topic question about Yahoo | Forum: Community Center
This may have happened when they upgraded the mail server. If you hadn't noticed, all free Yahoo accounts now get 100M of storage. Normally, I can access mail within a few seconds, but it would take me 2-3 minutes to get a page to load... if it loaded at all. In the meantime, I still receive spam in my inbox, with OBVIOUS spam subject lines... despite their "improved spam filter". I have concluded (without proof, though) that this is due to 2 reasons: 1) They sell "holes" in their spam filters to companies willing to pay to reach their users. How else to explain the non-fltering of messages with "GENERIC V!AGRA!!!CHEAP!!!" as the subject line. Subject line all caps? Yes. Word similar to "viagra"? Yes. Multiple exclamation points? Yes. Message is dated 3 days in the future? Yes. "From" line is forged Hotmail address? Yes. Spam message? No: deliver to inbox. 2) They let spam messages through on purpose, as way to aggrevate you into purchasing Yahoo!Plus: their paid email service with "improved" spam filters.
Thread: Hmmm, Spyware after visiting Renderosity? | Forum: Community Center
I seriously doubt it's Renderosity that's changing the home page. But... free stuff is hosted on all kinds of servers, with all kinds of "spyware" on it. An admin here may be running blocker-software and may not catch the spyware. Or the admins may have caught the spyware but haven't noticed it yet. But, you click on the item to go to that user's "free host" site and you catch the spyware. I had warned about "free hosts" before. The companies used to provide the free hosting because they were supported by banner and pop-up ads. But since so many people use pop-up blockers, there's no more revenue in those types of ads. What do the companies do? They make deals with "spyware" companies and give users this kind of offer: "We offer free hosting, provided you hijack the homepage setting of every one of your visitors." Many users stop reading the fine print after the words "free hosting".
Thread: IE 6 - some site has locked my homepage.... | Forum: Community Center
Changing it in Internet Options probably won't do much good... that's the "easy" way to fix it... and the "spyware" knows it. It may look fixed, but it will be back the next time you start IE or start your computer. You've definitely been infected with spyware. Running Adaware and Spybot should remove it.

Thread: special announcement from daz | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
All of this is just speculation. When DAZ is ready to announce the announcement of their announcement, they will announce it. Until that time, any speculation of their soon-to-be announced announcement of their announcement is only speculative speculation of their announcement.
Thread: special announcement from daz | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
OREM, UT: For immediate release Speculation ended today when it was announced that Microsoft (MCSFT) has purchased the 3-d content provider DAZ, Inc (DAZ3D). DAZ's 3-d software application will be renamed "MS Studio" and will become part of Microsoft's Office suite of programs. Plans are already underway to link Studio to other Office programs: a user will be able create a database in Access, mail merge it into Word and then render it in Studio. Accountants will be able to take their spreadsheets from Excel into Studio and create full 3-d models of their data. Of course, these models can then be brought into PowerPoint for presentations or into FrontPage for publishing to the web. As for the Mac version of Studio, a Microsoft represntative had this to say, on condition of anonymity: "Windows is the future. Choice is irrelevant. Resistance is futile." Listening to the feedback from users, Microsoft planned to add incredible new features to Studio, which include the following: We interrupt this message for the following important message: In a hostile take-over, Microsoft has purchased the Walt Disney Corporation and AOL/ Time Warner. This just in: Microsoft purchases the United States Government, deletes "anit-monopoly" regulations.
Thread: Help please with rude service. | Forum: Community Center
Tebok, just to let you know, it usually takes between 7-10 days for a product to reviewed and tested. During that time, you will only receive a message if there is something wrong with your product. If you hear nothing, assume that it will be up for sale in the standard 7-10 days. I have read postings where it has taken 14, 21, and sometimes 25 days (that's over 3 weeks) for staff to test and approve a product. In the end, a "what's going on with my product" posting will help prod the admins to look into the matter.
