Thread: My Account - Order Date vanished | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Kristi,
The Order Date column (for me) still does not have the order date information. Did it disappear again?? (And, yes, it has always had that information in the past.) It is really valuable information because it helps me check whether or not I have downloaded that purchase yet (I name my download folders by date).
Thanks!
Hal
Thread: Has your rosity email been lifted by spammers? | Forum: Community Center
I have been a programmer, a systems analyst, and am now the network manager for an Application Service Provider on the Internet. I am not so much an expert on the Internet as a Jack-of-all-trades. I am certainly willing to consider the possibilities, but I would like those possibilities explained technically and fully, not emotional rhetoric. From my own experience with the exposure of my email address (that I use ONLY at Rendo) to spammers, I am fairly certain that the exposure is coming from Renderosity. Or very nearby. Â
I do NOT think Renderosity is selling my email address. I have always found the folks at Renderosity to be quite professional. I don't believe that they would do anything that lowbrow.
But I DO believe that the email is being exposed and compromised (unintentionally) from Renderosity's side of the fence.
I have a SEPARATE email addres for all my major shopping sites (Rendo, DAZ, Amazon, Buy.com PC Connection, etc.) If MY computer were compromised I would expect to receive email addressed to several (or all) of those addresses. But I don't. Only to my Rendo address.
My email address is at the domain of my employer's company. I am the manager of that email system (we have our own onsite email server). I can change my email address at will. I can have as many email addresses as I want. If our company email server was compromised, all our employees' email addresses would be compromised. But they aren't Only my Rendo address.
I have recently changed my Rendo email address. That was about a week ago. Today I began receiving spam email addressed to that Rendo address. During the past week (since I set up the new email address), I have received at that Rendo address ONLY emails that were sent by Renderosity. NOT from any Rendo members. I have SENT NO emails FROM that address to ANYONE.
The way I see it, either (1) someone is able to get into the Rendo database to see the member profiles, or (2) someone has a program sitting either just inside or just outside the Renderosity gateway / firewall that is watching all Rendo packets that are heading for the Internet. Is there any third possibility??? If so, I'd be interested to hear it.

Thread: Gadzooks, you bounder! You've stolen my email address! | Forum: Community Center
In another thread about this email problem, Andy Welder offers the opinion that the Rendo email addresses are being stolen from some MEMBER'S computer which has been compromised by a spammer. If you ever write to that member (or members) using your Rendo email address then your email address will be stolen. I imagine that Andy may be correct that that is sometime happening. But that doesn't explain my situation (and the situation reported by many other members).
A week ago (approximately) I created a new email address specifically for Renderosity. I have NEVER used this email address to communicate with ANYONE. I have NEVER received any email at this address from ANYONE BUT RENDEROSITY. And yet it has ALREADY been compromised !!!
Now, if MY system was compromised, I could expect to receive spam from all my various addresses (DAZ, AMAZON, etc). But I don't. Just my Rendo address is compromised.
Tell me, Andy, how can this be anyone's fault but Renderosity's???

Excellent! Many thanks for the rapid reply! (If only the new servers responded as quickly.) Now, please restore the missing info to the wishlist!
Thread: Wishlist - A Work In Progress?? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Oh, and by the way, the new system is a lot slower than the old system. So, tell me again, this is all better how?
Thread: Wishlist - A Work In Progress?? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
I've suggested this several times in the past, so, since I'm complaining again, I might as well repost my suggestions: The sale flag should be restored, but it should be upgraded to the sale ending DATE, not just a graphic. And to make it best, it should be a SORTABLE column. Actually, ALL columns should be sortable: item, artist, sale ending date, and price. And instead of individual links to move each item to the shopping cart or to delete each item from the wishlist, there should be a checkbox for each item to move it to the cart and to delete it. That way you could move several items to the cart at once or delete several items at once. This should have been done a LONG time ago. It would save us shoppers a lot of time -- and it would save YOU (Renderosity / Bondware) a lot of server traffic.
Thread: Purchases: sorting ... searching ... downloading | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Thanks, Clint! Boy, speaking of a gazillion years ago, I think it was a gazillion years ago we had our first online conversation. It was during "The Troubles" when Willow and Company were on the way out and the site was divided into two (or more) camps slinging mud and battling it out. Ah, the good old days! Hal P.S. To balance out my complaining: one of the greatest features of the site is the way you won't let me purchase an item or add it to my wish list if I have already purchased it. Saved me from my own stupidity more than once. Thanks for that!!
Thread: Have you broken something? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Hot off the press: the Bondware cookies may NOT be the culprit. After leaving my last message, I had the problem again and discovered that there was one more cookie that I had not seen before: userid@market.renderosity.txt. It was an old cookie. So I deleted that one, and NOW I think things are OK. I have tested several times, and, so far, I can get into the Marketplace without problem. Here's how I discovered the market cookie: I deleted the Renderosity cookie. When I went to R-home I was greeted as "Visitor" but when I clicked thru to Marketplace (withOUT logging in) I was greeted as "bitplayer", so SOMETHING had to be remembering me as bitplayer. Here's a list of the Renderosity-related cookies I found: adminweb@renderosity.txt userid@renderosity.txt userid@bondware.txt userid@www.renderosity.txt userid@market.renderosity.txt Hal

Clint, I think you're right. And I think that for some reason (maybe you know?) it must have been the Bondware cookies that were causing the problem. I had been deleting all the Renderosity cookies and that did not solve the problem, but as soon as I deleted the Bondware cookies (at your suggestion, above), the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks! Hal

OK. I guess, from your reply, that this hasn't happened to anyone else (as far as you know). Hmmmm. Well, if I figure out what it is, I'll let you know; until then I'll just keep deleting cookies. Thanks.
Thread: Have you broken something? | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
No! Wait! It seems I have to delete the cookie EVERY time I restart my browser and want to get into the Marketplace. Even if I log in like normal (after deleting the cookie), if I close my browser and reopen it, I cannot get into the Marketplace unless I delete the cookie and log in again. Is this happening to anyone else??? Hal
Thread: Re: Vue 4 and Norton Internet Security 2004 | Forum: Vue
P.S. If you need to replace Symantec's anti-virus program, check out Panda Anti-Virus Titanium 2004. I use it and like it. Not quite as mature yet as the Symantec product, but getting there ... and a lot less installation/performance headaches! Virus updates can be automatic when you're online. Pretty fast downloads even over dial-up. Be sure you understand how it works in conjuction with email (don't wanna let email go unprotected!).
Thread: Re: Vue 4 and Norton Internet Security 2004 | Forum: Vue
I also use ZoneAlarm Pro and love it. I USED to be a big fan of Symantec and their various Norton products (always upgraded to the latest versions when they came out), but, to combat piracy, they have taken some pretty irritating anti-piracy measures that MAY be at the root of many of the problems people have been experiencing (at least, the problems have been coincident with the anti-piracy measures, if not actually caused by them). Symantec has taken a "who cares" stance and not done much to address the issues. So, I, for one, have decided to say "who cares right back atcha" and have stopped buying Symantec. Do yourself a favor and avoid Symantec like the plague.
