I got 22:38 on a dual proc Opteron 248 2.2Ghz, 2Ghz RAM. I also have a lot of things running in the background so I could most likely tweek my machine to get better times.

I have 2 other machines that I use for testing net rendering but I have some other things to do right now. I'll post the results later today or tomorrow.

Those machines are:

Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4Ghz

Opteron 148 2.2Ghz

Both have 1Gb RAM and 1mb L2 but the 4000+ costs about $100 less. My testing shows that tey are comparable in their render times. No real advantage to using an Opteron in a single proc system.

Thanks majister, I had forgotten all about the update. I recently installed a new raid system so I didn't install the update. I updated both Bryce and BryceLightning and everything worked fine. I did have to setup my Linksys router to start local ip addresses at 2 instead of 100. Don't know why but it worked.

I just tried BryceLightning on 2 computers other than the host and couldn't get the host to see either one of them. I had my cable modem disconnected so I was only using the router/switch. Weird since the last time I tried it came right up and worked without problem. Don't have any time to troubleshoot this tonight.

I know it works since I've done it before. I haven't tried it in a long time so I can't give you any pointers. I'll test it again tonight and get back to you.

I just watched the Clays Shahnra Project trailer animations and they are awesome. Can't wait to see more. The work it must have taken amazes me. No character animation though. There are apps that let you take poser character animation and import it into Bryce but I don't remember them. I would rather not spend time doing character animation in Bryce. Animating them in Poser and importing them would be the only way to go. If I remember correctly, the price is well worth it. Sorry Andini, wasn't trying to insult your work. That's pretty good for fooling around. You have more patience than I do.

All I really meant was that if I needed to do any character animation then AM will be my first choice among the tools that I have. I don't own Poser and probably won't buy it. Bryce is a very good program within it's limitations. Does anyone know where I can find Draginsbld's personal webpage? I would really like to check out any good Bryce animation.

AnimationMaster is designed from the ground up to handle character animation by a programmer who is also an animator. This fact makes it a more efficient platform when it comes to modelling and animating characters. It also can do many types of animation from toon to very close to realistic.

Bryce is not designed for it and Carrara 2 is still not quite there for any serious character animation.

Character animation in Bryce and/or Carrara is a waste of time. If you want character animation, try animation master. I own all 3 and each has its place but for character animation there is one clear winner Let's have an animation contest. We don't have to do anything except look at the results. Check out each of their sites and you will find only one clear winner. There are MANY great animation works done in AM but few in Bryce or Carrara. I'm sorry I wasted my time on them. I am now spending all my time on AM. I have seen the results and I am very impressed, and the version I have is 3 years old. Bryce and Carrara have a very long way to go to catch up with AM in character animation. Sorry to be such a bummer... No I'm not, it's all true. Corel is such a lackluster company that buying any of their products is a waste of money and such a let down that it is like buying a game and then realizing a couple of days later that it sucks and removing it from your hard drive to make room for something else that you never use.

Smoke looks great. How did you do that? The fire looks a little too much egg shaped. Maybe stretch it a bit to look like the plane is moving and the fire is streaking. You could also make the fuselage side of the broken wing look a little more ragged so it looks less like it fell off instead of being blown apart. Overall, I like it. Coming along nicely. Bob

If you plan to use your new machine for any gaming, 3d animation, or video, the CRT will give you the best bang for your euro. The rise and fall times of LCDs is not even close to a CRT. The LCD might look better with still images but try scrolling a web page or a document with lots of text and you will see what I mean. Also, try video or a 3d game. You will see ghosting as the pixels get turned on and off. Scrolling text will leave trails and video or games will look blurry. The LCD has advantages as well. It uses less power and takes up less desk space but can you live with the smaller size?

Or... bobla from the latin bobla meaning to bob up and down while singing. la la la and prime as in a great steak. I guess I could be the reincarnation of the long sought after bobbing, singing steak. ok... maybe not.
