I have no idea why my post printed in gray. Here it is again:
I'm looking at purchasing a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H Laptop. I'm pleased enough with the specs: 14th gen i9 processor, 32 GB of RAM (Probably going to upgrade that) and the fact it has two 1TB SSD slots (definitely going to upgrade those).
But...
Is it worth paying to upgrade the NVIDIA GeForce 4080 12GB to the NVIDIA GeForce 4090 16GB?
I'm not saying that money isn't an issue, but I can afford the upgrade (about $800). So this isn't a question about whether the price/performance trade-off. The question is, will the extra speed and memory actually be helpful? I sometimes make VERY large outdoor scenes – with lots of geometry on the trees, grass and such – and have had issues with performance.
Not sure if this link will work here, but here's a link to the specs for the two computers:

You're going to have to go into each piece of the prop and lock it manually. I've tried this and it has helped a lot.

Here's an easy way to find out which figure you're using in a scene using the listFigure script. I'm pretty sure this script ships with Poser 13, but there is a chance it's an add-on. If so, I apologize. It's been so long since I've modified my scripts that I just cannot recall what's native and what I've paid for.

Thread: Is there a way to get more than 8 lights in a poser preview scene? | Forum: Poser 13
I thought as much, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks. The eight light limit is in opengl and as such is not possible to get around directly. About the only thing you can do is render the first 8 lights and then select then next 8 lights and finally composite the images together.

Thread: Things you want to play with in Poser... | Forum: Poser 13
I am committed to Poser because it has the ability to produce solid, consistent line art with its Comic Book Preview. Daz Studio does not have that (however, if they do come up with a solid OpenGL preview, I would have to reevaluate that). My main woe is not with the Poser software itself, but as you said, with the lack of deep resources for Poser's new generation of characters: LaFemme and LHomme. There just aren't enough clothes, props and poses to make using them a realistic option for me. As such, I'm still working with Victoria 4 and Michael 4 as my primary figures.
Before I can really start using LF and LH, I would need:
• More utility poses (standing, sitting, driving, walking, leaning).
• More ACTION poses (fighting, flying, punching, falling, climbing).
• Better expression collections (flirty, angry, happy, smiles, frowns, anger).
• More everyday clothes for different time periods (jeans, shirts, dresses from the 30s, 40s, etc.).
• An easy way to fit Vi4 and M4 clothing to LF and LH.
• Better hair for each figure.
I know it's unrealistic to expect LF and LH to get the kind of deep asset libraries that Vicky and Mike have. After all, V & M have been around for decades. But before I can start using the newer figures I have to have a reasonable expectation that I will be able to find the clothes, hair, poses and expressions that I will need for my projects.

Another thing I would like to see is the ability to increase the character count for added lights and cameras. Being Limited to 32 characters makes it difficult to add meaningful descriptions to new items.

A Lights group is a very solid idea. I might need to try that in my next scene and see if it improves development speed.mmitchell_houston posted at 5:46 AM Wed, 22 May 2024 - #4485142
Lights dots? interesting idea. In between, I'm using groups of lights, and using a script I turn them on/off by group:And PLEASE add Lights Dots.

Decided to toss in another entry, but with a different character. This is also based on V4 with a Betty Page morph and some cool props. As before, rendered in Poser 13 and composited in Clip Studio Paint 3.

I decided to toss in some retro color (and fix a few issues with their thighs). Here's a second take on my previous illustration, but with comic book halftone colors.

I created two Poser 13 renders using the Comic Book Preview. There is a single layer for the base (b&w) layer, and another render for the color layer. I bring them into Clip Studio Paint 3, where I clean up the line work and apply the colors. The figures are Victoria 4 and Herr Cadaver. Background is Forest Cemetery by Cybertekno. Poses are from Mighty Might (and modified by moi).

Thread: Can I Decimate/Simplify the Geometry file in Poser? | Forum: Poser 13
This is a forest scene with a large expanse of area shown. I'm seriously considering hiding all of the trees, rendering them separately, and then adding them in post-production. I've been messing around with this scene for far too long.Another trick to keep in mind. if the trees are located in places where the tops won't show, you can use just trunks. It's all the leaves that raise the polygons.

Oh good grief, how did I miss those options? I seriously need to spend a day just going through all of the menu settings and confirming that I know what's what.Object/Create Grouping. That will add a group in your Hierarchy editor and you can drag and drop content from your scene in that Group - or Groups. Then you can hide that group(s) from the scene. I use it all the time for big scenes.
To decimate a figure - Figure/Reduce polygons.
To decimate an Object - Object/Reduce polygons
That being said... I used that option to reduce polygons, and it did, but it didn't seem to improve performance much. I clearly need to investigate what's going on in this scene in more detail.
