Is this a Pro mesh or standard Vue? Given the inability of Std to open Pro, some convention mentioning whether in the title would save some unnecessary trouble. Very nice piece by the way ;-)

Like wabe I go back to the pioneer days of PCs; and like him I know you can always spot pioneers by the arrows in their backs. Your online market may be more limited than you think if you intend to subsidize your investment to any extent. In addition to just finding clients you'll find yourself dealing with contracts with tricky clauses, performance bonds, corporate licensing, and a whole plethora of things you didn't expect that cost you more money. Just as we meshers have learned that selling to Poser folks at Poser prices is more effective than the few who'll buy at TurboSquid, I believe you'll find the much fewer who animate a hard market when so many potential clients are already doing such in-house. ..As you'll likely find less time to do your own thing, I'd scale back to what works for your own needs and enjoy the ride. If you still want to make some cash from it, work on 'proof' reels (or keyframe stills) and get local companies to buy your stuff to use in local tv ads etc..

if close counts (and it usually does) just make your own in the terrain editor - easy to scan or google up some topo of the area you want - import it into the editor and clip as needed added> you can export your terrain into freeware Wings 3D for tweaking - just invert once its in there and invert before exporting out as 3ds or obj (obj allows you to make a multi-material terrain) there's lots of ways to get what you want - just takes a bit of practice

Thread: Vue supports FBX? | Forum: Vue
Well, if you do look at their partners, you can see much more professional solutions to animatory output than a nice and easy scene builder bumped up to work with 'Pro' apps and farm output.
..MB hasn't been around long, but it is solidly placed here in the film industry because it not only has what pros need, it works without oversights in coding that hinder some other apps ;)
When even freeware Wings3D offers an fbx export plugin, I can't/won't comment on why e-on fails to do so with an app they insinuate is professional.
One workabout is to covert MB to Poser motionfiles and export from Poseur into Vue - don't have the link to a tute, but it can be found

Attached Link: http://www.treemaker.nl/
I use Xfrog, and you can create amazing things .. but the registration can be slow to receive, the learning curve isn't quick, the interface isn't optimal, and the output of a realistic tree adds huge polys to render machine (they sell a reducer for more $)another alternative is at the link .. used to be $10, but now its free
Thread: is the gallery really biased? I think so | Forum: Vue
LOL! Its JMO, but while our tools and accoutrements have changed, human nature is still what it was, and will always be, foreseeably. If a sense of obligation develops among gallery habituees, it doesn't seem harmful; any comment can strike a spark off the anvil of reality - and sparks often cause the fire we need.
When something 'pushes the limit,' asking how it was done not only brings the chance to learn, but is a seed that might bring more comment.

Thread: Castle free stuff : Mac users, bandwith download, Obj and lwo format | Forum: Vue
thanks for the heads-up -) too bad about pro - I've already learned the hard way about getting version 1.x of anything so will be content to wait ;)
Thread: Castle free stuff : Mac users, bandwith download, Obj and lwo format | Forum: Vue
Stuck with dial-up, GetRight's been 2 days & over 40 resumes trying to download; so an unmapped obj/3ds/lwo would be neat - but reading the updated info I'm wondering if we Vue'ers who are waiting for stability before upgrading to Pro are out of luck?

Thread: Sky alpha planes. | Forum: Vue
Being an old dog who doesn't miss scripting/rescripting complex scenes one bit, it does seem picayune to fault alpha planing in an app designed to free us from the scut-work that hinders the flow of creation.
As my first boss said, "let students and buyers worry about the art, you give me output." ..actually he was more succinct than that, but this is a family forum ;)
Thread: The truth about Renderosity, Vue and censorship | Forum: Vue
TOS= terms of service; the agreement to follow the rules page you click through to register on a forum. IMHO= shorthand acronym for 'In my humble opinion' .. which is getting to be obsolescent in use, as seen as rather windy (the antithesis of humble), so IMO, and JMO (just my opinion) are becoming more common. Strong assertions are often followed by a smile :) or wink ;) to mitigate any 'edge' that others might perceive.
Thread: Looking for real user comments on Vue (Good or Bad) | Forum: Vue
Vue4 is great for straightforward scenes; but as for animation, Pro is good for beginner to low intermediate. To really reach toward its optimistic 'Pro' appellation, it needs to do better than poseur and import Kaydara's .fbx ..jmo of course :)
