Thanks. That seems to have worked. I wasn't expecting it to, but it did.
But I don't know why it would. That's not something I ever had to do before in previous versions of Poser such as Poser Pro 2012 or earlier. Sometimes I would clothify a figure for a quick rendition, not even intending to keep it once done because it was just a throwaway character, and I could easily complete the simulation without having to save the scene. Why would PP11 be different now?
Anyway, thanks for your help.

So Reality 3 works with Poser Pro 2014 straight away? I know with PP2012 you had to download some service release which I was thinking of getting a month or two ago, but held off because I suspected PP2014 might come out soon.
Thread: Losing lighting when opening a Poser 8 file in Poser 2012 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks.
I've tried that, but I also don't seem to have any shadows still in Poser Pro 2012. It seems that a file created in Poser 8 seems to completely lose them in 2012. I have cast shadows and ray tracing checked on the render settings. Any new light I apply in PP 2012 doesn't have any shadows either, even with the "shadows" box checked on light properties, and whether it is ray tracing or depth map shadows checked.
I don't know how it can lose that.

Apollo Maximus is another figure with limited use for me. There aren't really many skin textures at all, and so few poses that you have to fiddle about with the dials too much making it too difficult to pose. I find it difficult to clothe him in any M4 clothing.

Which one is Genesis though? I can never find the male or female base figure available on sites like Daz3d or elsewhere, but only morphs for it. Is it known by something else? Or did it come with something?
Genesis is part of DAZ studio. It's built into the program. It doesn't work in Poser without some wedging and crobars, commonly referred to as D-SON importer, which is available at daz's website.
V5, M5, etc *5th gen figures are all morphs of Genesis. They don't work very well in Poser, from the various threads all over the forums here and elsewhere. They're designed for DAZ Studio. Results may vary.

I see. I don't use Daz Studio, which is probably why I don't really know about Genesis directly. But since V5, M5 etc doesn't work well with Poser then will they actually replace figures like V4 and M4 for Poser users? And how does one even use those Genesis figures if you don't use Daz Studio in the first place?
What is the standard figure that comes with Poser 2014? Is it typically not as advanced, like the standard figures that used to come with earlier poser versions (eg Simon G2, Simone etc)?

Quote - V5 is a morph of Genesis. There are no standalone DAZ figures anymore. All new Daz figures are based on the Genesis mesh.
And yes, eventually V4 will become obsolete like V3, V2, V1 and Posette before her.
As soon as Genesis/V5 works as well in Poser as she already does in Studio, or another Poser figure of similar quality enters the market, V4 will (finally) be replaced by something better.
Doesn't mean you have to stop using her, but the vendors supporting her now will move on, just as they moved from V2 to V3 and then to V4.
Just like the DAZ vendors who already dropped V4 the second V5 was released.
Currently V4 is still "safe" in Poser, as V5 compatibility is still limited. But she's at the very end of her devlopment cycle.
The majority usually wants the latest, greatest, that's where the money is, so sooner or later everybody will look for greener pastures.

Quote - This is the last of the DAZ legacy figures. DAZ would take the new figure, morph the body and rig it to match the previous generation's figure so you could use the clothes from the previous generation.
There was even P4 Vicki, P4 Mike and P4 Stephanie. They did this for the Gen 3 figures as well.
V3 to V4 can use V4 head morphs but is rigged for V3 conformers and does not have injection channels. It also uses V4 textures.
What are DAZ legacy figures?
V3 is on the whole pretty useless to me now. As for any earlier models like V1 and V2, they're completely obsolete. But will V4 become outdated with V5? The thing is that nearly everything I have is geared towards V4. I don't even have the V5 model.
BTW is V5 also known as Genesis or are they two separate things?
Thread: Are we likely to get a new version of Poser in the next year or so? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Well one thing they really need to change is the way dynamic cloth behaves. I saw on another thread how some other program allowed dynamic cloth to adjust itself (don't want to use the word "conform" for obvious reasons) to the figure so that if you changed the pose slightly, you didn't have to go and simulate the cloth all over again which can be a real pain.

Well definitely Poser 2010 to Poser 2012 has many improvements. Even just the layout of 2012 is far better, especially with the ability to have a floating or non-floating window. Too many other things to list off the top of my head.
I started with Poser 4 then eventually went to Poser 5 (which I think was the first one to have these different rooms). That seemed like a jump at the time, but both of those now seem really primitive. Well, even Poser 8 seems rather primitive but acceptable.
Thread: Exporting trees from Bryce to Poser | Forum: Bryce
Thanks. The tree texture and transparency map works! The leaves actually look like leaves now. There was a $25 fig tree I saw selling on another site, but I couldn't justify spending that much just for a tree, especially when I had one but the only problem was the leaves weren't working. At least I won't have to spend that money now!
Thread: Exporting trees from Bryce to Poser | Forum: Bryce
Quote - I've never tried exporting/importing the Bryce trees but if the material zones export with them, you should be able to apply a leaf texture in the Poser material room.
I can send you a leaf texture if you think that will work.
Thanks, but it's not the texture that is the problem. It's the shape of the leaf of that fig tree. As I mentioned, it comes out rectangular - a pure rectangle. There are no leaves that shape.
Thread: Exporting trees from Bryce to Poser | Forum: Bryce
Thanks for posting that.
I've tried using PoseRay just now, following the instructions you provided. However, when I loaded the tree obj into PoseRay, I saw that it still had the rectangular leaf shape to start with. So of course, when I've saved it and then imported it into Poser, again it has that rectangular leaf shape instead of the distinctive fig leaf shape.
I'm not sure what the problem is. When exporting from Bryce, I have the tree set on its highest resolution, but it still comes out low resolution looking like bits of paper stuck onto branches when opened in Poser. I don't know if it is that particular tree model as I don't seem to have that problem with other types of trees.
Thread: Queue Manager not opening | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks. I'm trying it now. Will see if it works.
What do the other numbers refer to, eg Status = 3, or 1?
Thread: Queue Manager not opening | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I've located the QM xml file, but how exactly do I clear out the jobs from there? Do I just delete the text in the xml file and then save it (ensuring that the tags are there correctly)?
I really do wish I could see what is in the QM though. I don't know why it doesn't open at all. I also used to be able to launch whichever QM from whichever version i wanted and then send stuff from Poser 2012 to Poser 8 without having to shut one down. Now none of them seem to work.
The only one that does seem to open is my 2010 QM (but of course, it just sits there if I try to render something from PP2012 in it). Is there some way to reassign that to PP2012 so that it becomes that one's QM? I don't know what I would have to edit to do that.
