I'd like to have the ability to lock down a layer. Even when one 'locks' a layer now, an object on that layer can still be moved - BAD.
Secondly, have the option of locking down an object on a working layer.
In both cases, "locking down" means to have the inability to alter the position of the object.

LoL. At this point, I'm not sure what is a 'bug' and what is 'designed bahavior'. I'm just playing around, trying things and seeing what happens. I did notice that I had to tweak the camera path a few times because 'things changed' on me.
I built a new computer for doing animations (i7-3930 w/ 32Gb ram & SSD) and it's still a 'bear' to render. 90 second animation @ 640x400 took 12+hrs to render. Just a simple island w/ tropical eco. But the time to render the same scene on my old Q6600 was estimated at 72+hrs. LoL.
Wish there were instructions on how to streamline the rendering options for best/fastest animation output. I did notice that the new anti-flickering process adds about 45% to the render time, but really cuts down on the flickering. Ran 2 animations & compared.
Tx for the warning - I'll keep an eye out for those 'features'.

Bruno,
The altitude was not locked, the camera was. However, I do not understand why with a locked camera I could alter the waypoint X & Y data but not the Z. All I did was click on the camera 'lock' to unlock it and then it behaved like I expected it to.
Thread: Snow on roof | Forum: Vue
There were a few tutorials around that showed how to model snow in VUE on top of objects. I remember seeing how to put snow onto trees, buildings, even how to make footprints. I think some of these were on Gita's web page when it was up.
Do a search because they are around. Post the links if you find some good ones.
Cheers...

Thanks Shawn - the camera was 'locked' - I guess that is the default setting. As soon as I unlocked it, I could move the waypoints in three dimensions.
Bruno - when the camera is 'locked', the waypoints in the 3D views are locked in their vertical positions as well. Thanks though.

Thread: Vue 8 & RAM | Forum: Vue
I'm running 8Gb of ram on a 64bit sytem and I'm running out of memory for the large scale terrains I visualize. Currently, a 12km by 13km area, populated with tree and vegeration eco systems tends to choke and blow up for me unless I'm very selective on my camera angles - in other works, don't peek over into the next valley and keep the clouds to a minimum.
I'm waiting for the news of the new Intel systems to come out - in a week or so. The Intel X79 chipset will allow up to 64Gb of ram on the modo (with 8Gb sims - 32Gb w/ 4Gb sims). I'm less enthused about Intels' pricing strategy. Since AMD botched the Bulldozer CPU, Intel has decided to not sell the 4-core version of the new CPUs until the spring - which would have been the more cost-effective way to go.
For those of you running out of ram, the X79 chipset boards may be the way to go, but you may want to wait 6 months until the $350 CPU is released. BTW - the upper end X79 mobos have 8 simm slots.

Mark,
I just realized that your image has been hijacked by the "laughing man". LoL. Picked up the "Ghost in the Shell" TV series DVDs on sale. Love it.
Thread: Anyone tried Urban PAD to create buildings/cities? | Forum: Vue
I get the feeling that Urban Pad hasn't reached that 'critical mass' point where there are a lot of users creating with it. Think that was the point behind the 'sale'. Now that Gamer7 has managed to create a large number of users, it is only a matter of time before people create and submit models and pix, and ultimately pronounce judgement as to how well it works.
What is very positive in my eyes is Gamer7s' constant development schedule - a new beta every few weeks of so.
Thread: moving by longitude and latitude coordinates | Forum: Vue
Convert the lats/Longs to UTM coordinates and then you can utilise the M/KM for moving. Lats/Longs are too imprecise to use in localized areas.  It is much easier to move by 1.5m rather than "0D 0' 0.013543" at 315D 42' 12.34254" " or whatever the spherical distance may be.Â
If you are trying to approximate a position on Earth, Lats/Longs are for spherical geometry rather than working out a distance on a geoid. Then you'd also have to employ a ground scale factor which gets a bit too complicated for a typical novice.

Thread: KVM Switch for 4 PC's | Forum: Vue
I've been using "StarTech" brand for a 2 way KVM VGA and am highly satisfied with it. I run 2 Dell 27" monitors with 2 main PCs. VGA works fine to the 1440x1200 Monitor limit. With DVI you can get higher resolution per monitor. I've had that KVM for the last 6 years
I've been looking at acquiring a 4 way KVM with DVI-USB as well for the same purpose and the StarTech will be my first choice.Â
Note that as soon as you introduce VGA into the cabling you will be reducing the resolution of the monitors, as VGA has lower limits in spite of the DVI-VGA convertors.

Thread: Size of Model Leads to Rendering Limitations | Forum: Vue
I am using dynamic eco systems.
I think I solved my dilemma, as I was able to render the full 4km x 10km section. I think the problem was that I was not paying attention to the mini-render area. I think I was activating that while I was expecting a full render. "Pilot Error" probably.
thd777,
Thanks for that tip. I had bought a fir for rendeing for VUE7 or 6, but since those trees are now part of the models you get w/ VUE, I didn't bother with 'em. Might have to look for that 'render fir'.
