Quote - > Quote - Just to set the record straight, nudity is not permitted in THUMBNAIL images. This means as applied to Bi-ped humanoid creatures such a Humans, Elfs, Pixies, ET, Aliens or other non-terrestrial life forms that have two legs and stand up. They can wear what you want them to wear or not as the case may be in the main images.
As far as I am informed, exactly in this field there is a change in the Renderosity TOS. Or why suddenly my and Barry's alien images are back in the galleries - WITH the original thumbnails?
Well gee, I had all but given up hope! I came for one last morbid glimpse (everyone's gotta peek ya know). So have the mods finally come to their senses? How terrible that so many prominent people have left and may never come back. Its like a broken family that tries pulling together one last time after extensive therapy....yet its never quite the same as before. We can try and ignore them but the scars remain.
Will prominent members such as Rutra ever return?
Or do we just chalk him up as collateral damage and just try and be happy with those who remain in this damaged little community?

Yes, public beta is out.
Does this require OS10.6? Or will it work with OS 10.5.8?
Also, is this under NDA? Is there a discussion forum somewhere where testers can share experience? I see nothing on the e-on forums yet.

Dick, thanks for the detailed insights on the AP settings. I'll start paying closer attention to its effects. It really does make sense though to follow a standard size though and if real world works as well as any, then it would make sense to use that.
One thing I've noticed myself while out in the desert is that size can be very deceptive. You can see a hill that looks gigantic but then when you get close its really not so large. And vice versa. I've only noticed this "mirage" in the deserts, not in the forested North West. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was just me getting disoriented in the heat? And when I lived in LA just two blocks from the mountains, there were MANY days when we couldn't even see the mountains at all due to the high "Aerial Perspective" setting. I've heard the smog is better these days though.

Hi Dick, lovely clouds as always and good to see you here. The Vue 8 clouds do seem to have much more realism.
Just ordered Vue 8 and have used various AP settings although setting of 1 makes sense. Maybe you can give an example of the differences you are referring to?
I wonder though if using very large real world sizes increases processing time though? I did a very large scale scene where populating seemed to take forever. Maybe it was due to Vue only using a single core for population? It would seem size shouldn't matter but only the number of population items....but I don't know.

OK, another question....
Is anyone using Render Cows on a Mac successfully with Vue 7.4?
I know its worked well for me with previous versions but could there possibly be a problem now? Or is it me?

Can you use post effects for network renders? If so, I wasn't aware of this. I though post-effects were only available on internal renders to screen.
How do you access post-effects for network renders to disk?

You can actually do quite sophisticated movie editing in PS CS3 Extended - just select "Animation" from the Window menu. Its really quite advanced and like a small version of After Effects - you can set keyframes and create motion effects with Photoshop tools. There is a great tutorial on this at the Kelbytraining.com site by Corey Barker called "Photoshop in Motion".
H.264 is a great compresion method inside Quicktime - and there lots of others that will do the job as well.
Thread: watching back my 1080p animation - help?! | Forum: Vue
If your movie is in uncompressed format, then a 1920 x 1080 size file can be a huge burden for your computer or hard drive to playback. I have an 8-core, NVidia 8800, and fast SATA drives and it won't even handle that kind of animation file! You'd need SATA RAID drives at least.
Try compressing it to H.264 with Quicktime, then it should playback fine.
Thread: Vue 6 Infinite dead? | Forum: Vue
Quote - E-on actually stated some Months ago, after the last 6 update, that it would be the last one ever!
But they know some issues still aren't fixed. From the e-on website:
Known Issues:
Well, I'll move on to Vue 7 anywho, but you think e-on would at least provide fixes so Vue 6 Infinite users so it works as its supposed to. No?
I hope the advertised features in Vue 7 are all working properly and they place more emphasis on stability if they are targeting higher-end users.

I'll add that to the list, and our Geekatplay quotes if that is okay.
Very glad to have helped you :)
Hi Ami,
Sure, that would be fine.

Thread: Commercial projects? | Forum: Vue
Hi Ami,
I just finished a large poster-sized calendar using Vue to create all the mountains and terrains for DigiTokyo 2009 that will be sent to all of the largest technology companies in Tokyo Japan. If you're interested, let me know and I'll contact the client about release (its going to print very soon). Although everything is created in Vue, it uses lots of post work as well.
btw, I couldn't have done this without your tutorials.
Cheers,
Greg

Thanks for sharing your secrets - yes, it does inspire. Pulsing Stillness has a very painterly quality I like. I'm still learning 3d but I also have been doing commercial work (very different style). I just finished a huge mat painting project with close to a trillion polygons and at least 100 layers of PS post work. But despite that, I'm really a noob flying by the seat of my pants and trying to learn as much as I can. I like the serendipity approach but tend to get so disorganized myself I need take a structured approach. Having a technical background helps with computer and such but is a bit of a handicap when it comes to breaking away with a more artisitic approach. So a little knowledge can be dangerous!
I haven't worked with gels much either, but they are worth exploring. Up until now though, my old machine was too slow to get much done with gels. But for a painterly style, they seem like an interesting (albeit slower) option to post work - with a slightly different effect than you can get with PS post. The concept is quite easy though, if you want a tree with redder leaves, try a red light gel nearby. I suppose you could sort of "paint" your scene like this and get different results (translucency and subsurface scattering) that you wouldn't obtain with PS saturation, filters or transforms.

Gwenolye,
Glad to be of help. I'm learning as much studying your artwork as answering questions.
I have a question for you...
You have a very unique mystical ambience with a "painterly look" to all of your renders. Are you doing lots of PS post work or are you getting these results from within Vue?
If its all within Vue, you must be doing some interesting atmospherics or working with light gels or something interesting like that....
Greg
