Subject: DAZ Fantasy Dress - What the secret to getting it to pose?

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 06 April 2003 at 3:17 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 7:21 PM

I can conform the dress all right without everything sticking out, but when I go to pose Vicky 3, she comes out of the dress below the waist (yes, I know that's every straight man's dream but I'm not a guy). How do you get the bottom half of the dress to conform properly to cover her legs? Does this thing have to be morphed for positions? I'm definitely lost. Sorry, I know the answer is probably simple but I've missed the obvious. As usual. Any help would be appreciated.

I know...it's been a tedious battle almost for me as well. One of the morphs that I have ended up using has been the climbing stairs morph...when one of the thighs/knees is bent as if walking this one works better to angle the dress down to that point from the waist, and then the hem falls naturally to the floor. Once I figured that one out it was a piece of cake. Also the little arrow thingie (can't remember what's it is called that acts like a magnet seems to help a bit as well. I think because this dress has so much that it is just going to take time for all of us to get used to what all it really can do. I used that technique in this rendering.

Opps...and forgot this...if part of the leg is still sticking out you can stick use the heirarchy editor to hide the offending limb.

Never mind...I guess you have use that handle thing to move the skirt. Not quite what I wanted but I guess it will have to do. Sorry.

What V3 face is that, and what hair? Nice image, my puppy looked at me funny when I said out loud, "oh my gewd!" he thought he was in trouble haha. That's really nice. (runs off to buy the Fantasy Dress)

Cross posted...I know what you're talking about now. That's a beautiful rendering, by the way. Lovely. thank you for posting. I couldn't just hide her leg. She needed to have part of it revealed. It was the skirt staying in the wrong position that was the problem. But I see this new handle business is going to take some getting used to. :)

Thank you MachineClaw! The face is from the Montana Skye package at DAZ by Mahna and TiffT785. The hair is the Wonder Wedge hair for MW using the standard brown MAT setting with a poof sort of morph effect for the back of the hair - again available at DAZ.

I struggled with this, too. Body Handles just boggled me a bit. It helps if you turn on "Full Tracking" (Display > Tracking > Full Tracking -or- Shift+Ctrl+C) while you're posing the skirt. Since this is a bit of a resource hog to have on full-time, you may want to turn it off after you've got the skirt in position. -Nancy.

My suggestion, i.e. what I did, is to sit down and play with the dress by itself, and try out every single one of the skirt morphs to see what it actually does. Cursing helps, too. Or at least makes me feel better.

Cursing helped a little. This is almost, not quite, what I was trying to do.

The texture is by Mehndi, and the boots are Serrge. Everything else is Daz. Oh, well. Paint Shop Pro is crashing on me now. Time to quit.

Yeah it is funny that sometimes you assume that people do things you do. Full Tracking mode makes a huge difference. As you already know now the dress has a single bodyhandle at the bottom that allows you to pose the skirt more in the leg region. The morphs can be used alone but the handle is a tool for animators and poses where the hip is rotated. One thing I do is lock Vicki's hip before applying the pose and then tweak the pose to be suitable for the dress. In this image I locked her hip and applied the pose where she is kneeling with her hands interlaced.

ps. for anyone not knowing what we are talking about in regards to bodyhandles this is a pic. By selecting the cone called "Skirt"(see dials on right) you can pose the skirt without relocating the hip. See this link for more info on what a bodyhandle is. They are made invisible at rendertime. Regards, Anton PSS:if someone wants to do some tutorials on the dress or bodyhandles, Daz Arcana does give $10 daz bucks for tutorials. SOme people are making quite a bit of money with tutorials.

I think it would be most wonderful if you would do a tutorial on either the dress or bodyhandles Anton, since you are so very familiar with them :) Pendy

I know, something some of us have precious little of...I haven't even had a chance to install the dress let alone play with the handlers...:) So I have no clue as to how to use them.

azl ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 7:48 AM

Anton, Why doesn't DAZ could've put some of this information in their ReadMe? Tell them that this lack of documentation is annoying to the point that nowadays I think twice before buying a DAZ product. azl

RHaseltine ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 8:24 AM

There are few people who offer better documentation than DAZ, and many worse. One of the drawbacks of small/one-entity companies - they lack the dedicated technical writers (for what those are worth).

azl ( ) posted Tue, 08 April 2003 at 9:28 AM

I didn't realize DAZ offered ANY documentation . Seriously, though, many of the products I've bought here in Renderosity have offered very nice documentation. This has sometimes swayed me into buying them. At DAZ, the opposite is true. Unless the product is really, really unusual, I've often been swayed NOT to buy it because I know I'll have to go hunting through Renderosity forums to find how to use it. And up until DAZ recently included readmes, I had trouble finding DAZ files on my system unless I wrote down the file location from their first install screen. Renderosity products included this from the start. My products have good documentation. But then, I used to be a technical writer ;)
