I still think that 2D/ digital comics don't stand a rats chance in heck as this isn't what the core idea of what renderosity is about, which is CL's Poser and other 3D render packages. So a 2D-er or digital comic entry will never be in the 'real' running.... I just wanted to bang my 'feeling second class' drum here a bit. I feel the same argument goes for the magazine as well because so far the themes have all been biased towards a render package. I for one couldn't have entered the cover comp where we had to use a 'seed' image at all...
I think you have a good point...doesn't mean we can't push for change. The fact is that the 3D graphics would look pretty bland if it wasn't for 2D artwork reflected in textures, backgrounds, and postwork. 2D artwork adds the vibrance and life to a picture as well as standing beautifully on its own. And I'm not forgetting photography in this. They all have a place and should be celebrated. Just my opinion.
I can see how you might feel this way since there is a 2:1 ration of 3D interest to 2D interest according to our reports, but the 2D area is growing. Here is Renderosity's mission... The mission of Renderosity is to create a thriving, productive environment that encourages an atmosphere of community, respect, collaboration, and growth for graphic artists of all backgrounds. I know when I judge a contest.... I don't care to know what program they used for I choose the content of the image. Have you communicated to the mag team regarding your feelings on the magazine? Would not matter to me what area wins - what matters to me is the content that the image presents. Below is some recommendations on this. Just a heads up that discussions about various aspects of the competition are also taking place in the Bryce and Poser fora (not sure if there are any elsewhere, 'cos I haven't looked!). Perhaps the mods might want to move them all to here, or the contest forum? It's getting a bit confusing! (If they are moved, can a mod let us know where to, please?)

Not true at all :)
The magazine is filled with many 2D articles - In upcoming issues there are articles by 2D artists, Cartoon Artists, and Photographers.
As to the "seed" inspired Magazine Cover Contest - I do not understand the problem using one of the seeds within a 2D format. Basically the "seeds images" could be used as texture. These could have been used within 2D artistic work very easily. As to a cartoon format - couldn't you have used one of the seeds as a clothing texture? Any of them would have made a colorful shirt, shorts, or hat :)
As for Poser being featured within the Cover Contest - well to be honest that is just the numbers! Of the 124 entries to the last Cover Contest only a handful did not feature a Poser figure. This becomes a catch 22. If you really want a non-poser Magazine Cover - enter a Non-Poser image to the Contest :)
For the last Cover Contest, All the Mods posted the cover contest to their forums (both 3D and 2D). Very few 2D artists entered the contest, and the majority who did enter - decided to use a Poser figure within their entry.
As to the New Renderosity Logo Contest - This is an excellent opportunity for 2D as well as 3D artist! I can think of several wonderful ideas for new Rosity Logos, and None of them have anything to do with 3D art! All have to do with color and design!
Hey, you cannot win a contest, unless you enter :)
So give it a try!

Where it says winning images need to be provided in 300dpi TIFF, does this mean that they should be sized at 300dpi with respect to the dimensions, or that the current dimensions should multiplied up to provide the same printed size of image at 300dpi as the specified dimensions would produce at standard screen dpi? I don't even understand that question myself, so well done if you can answer it. What I mean is, if I created a 200x200 image and converted to 300dpi, it would print as 2/3 inch square. Is this OK, or should the size of the image be 300/72 * 200 = 833 square to compensate for the difference between screen and print dpi. I'm going to bed.
It would be ... the current dimensions should multiplied up to provide the same printed size of image at 300dpi as the specified dimensions would produce at standard screen dpi. the size of the image would be 200/72 * 300 = 833 square to compensate for the difference between screen and print dpi. We will need this or any print materials. :) thanks tammy
@SeanE, I think you're right about the main focus of Rendo being Poser/3D Rendering, but that's fair enough really - that is how the site started after all. I honestly cannot believe the contest judges would rate 2D work below full-on 3D on that basis alone - and I speak as a confirmed "all figures are better hand drawn" dude. Well, maybe ;)
