Subject: poser system requirements with notebooks?

Poser 5 system requirments English only versions of Windows 98se, 2000, ME or XP 500MHz Pentium class or compatible (700Mhz or greater recommended) 128MB system RAM (256MB recommended) 24-bit color display, 1024 x 768 resolution 500MB free hard disk space Internet connection required for Content Paradise Im getting a HP notebook with 1.67 ghz 30 gig hard drive and 256 upgradable to 512 ddr memory Amd cpu Is this going fly poser5 or not?

Umm ... perhaps not fly, but it should have P5 walking and flapping its arms a bit. I have a roughly comparable desktop system (albeit with double the memory), and could certainly use something faster, but I suppose that will always be the case. Admittedly, I work with animation, so my needs are somewhat higher.

I have a amd 2400+ with 1GB of mem and a 80 GB hdd and P5 walks and crawls from time to time. but the system you are planning should at least do pretty well

I have a P4 3.06 GHz Notebook with 1 Gb DDR400 Mem and 60 Gb Hard drive. It is strolling with Poser 5, and I don't think it'll be taking off for sometimes or ever. JV :D

A notebook will always be somewhat slower than a desktop with comparable specs. The internal bus speeds are usually lower in notebooks and the entire design is optimized for size rather than speed. The problems in notebooks are usually cooling and power consumption, and solutions to cope with that has priority over speed. Your specs looks pretty good though, even if more RAM wouldn't hurt.

I upgraded my nhote book's RAM to 512MB specifically to ease Poser5 use - and it's helped significantly over the old 256MB. However I'm not sure that ANY PC really "flies" with Poser 5... at least not like a jet plane. More like a zeppelin :) Oh - my CPU is a mere PIII 850MHz on the notebook, and one recent purchase (the resource-hungry DAZ Hydra) seems to work better in Poser 5 than in Poser 4. For example, the renders look good (well - as good as I do, anyway) and the textures all show up in preview mode (Not so in Poser 4). If you can do more RAM I'd suggest it. Cheers, Cliff

What who3d said... Big difference in performance between 256M RAM and 512M RAM. Especially true of high-res meshes and textures. Visit www.crucial.com. :)

Yup, 512Mb in a laptop is a must! Mine came with 128Mb initially, and used to hang when I loaded a lot of stuff into P4, with 512Mb I was never able to crash it, (and that was with Windows Me) Since getting the desktop I've not used P4 much on the laptop, but given my experiences with P5 on a 2Ghz 1Gb desktop I'm not anxious to try it on my lesser PIII 700Mhz with 512Mb. YMMV later jb
