Subject: Carrara3 trees...

I hope you folks don't mind me posting some things that you can do with C3. I'm always a little skeptical about paying good money for updates unless they are worth it. Personally, I enjoy seeing what can be done with updates before I jump in and buy. Hence my posts... This image is the stock Burr Oak tree from the C3 plant generator. I did texture the tree but didn't change any of the geometry parameters. What really impresses me about the leaves is the fact that they are actual meshes. You can even create your own leaves if you want to. No more transparency map issues. All parts of the tree including trunk bend and gravity/sagging are editable. Size, quantity, and shape of everything is completely in your hands; even how the branches and leaves project outward from their parent object. Pretty cool. Mark

Have to agree with you Mark...I was quite impressed with it too! It was one of the first things I played around with when I received the beta version of C3. One question...what did you use to generate the grass? It looks really neat.

There are a couple of ways to create grass and weeds. Using AnythingGrows by DCG is the easiest. You can then convert it to a mesh and edit it further to create some "stock" grass with bent leaves. Also starting in with a mesh plane in the vertex room with a fine mesh, and then grabbing vertexs and pulling then up is another. Make sure to multiple-select vertexs or you will spend a little too much time clicking and moving! For curving grass, like what is showing in the lower left corner of the image, you can use the spline modeler as well.

Thanks Mark...I'll give it a try. Will also try AnythingGrows.

Hell no, we don't mind. As far as I am concerned keep them coming! I think it is very useful to see software taken to it's limits. This really demonstrates the capabilities and strengths. It's kind of looking at the sample art that ships with every copy of Illustrator. I find stuff like this inspiring and very motivating. Thanks for the post Mark.

What I wonder is, if you feel inspired, can you manage to tweak those trunk and branches so it really look like a "natural" tree? I'm eager to see how those feature would come out.

I'm wavering about unpgrading to so any input is much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to post. Tree looks great.

Cheers,
Mark
