THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: .max to obj format

Hey there its been a while. I would like to know if there is any free stand alone software out there to convert .max file to .obj files so that I can import them into bryce. If you know of any leave a link or the name. Its greatly apreciated. Thanks

There is none. Only if you own 3DS can you then use the Max2obj plug-in, otherwise, no such animal exists yet that would allow that conversion of that proprietary format.

I gather it is not so much a data storage issue, but unless you have the proprietary algorythms from the 3DS engine then the data that does exist (input parameters) is non-intelligible.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

When I asked the same question some time ago I got the answer that .max files are 3d studio max scene files and .3ds is 3d studio max object files. So if you want a .max file converted to .3ds or .obj, you have to open the file in 3d studio max(or if you are a poor fellow like me, send it to someone who has got 3d Studio max) and group the entire scene and then export that group as an object.

I could convert it for you if you like. Send me an IM and we can work something out. 8) Catlin

Yeah, it would be nice to have a .max to .obj converter or even a .max to 3ds converter for those of us tht can't afford either program! There are some terrific .max meshes out there but remain unavailable to most people to use simply because Bryce doesn't import them... too bad, really.

rster, Svaelt is correct in that ".max" files are 3DS scene files just like Bryce's scene files are ".br5" format and those can't be directly converted either. We can only extract and export the objects in the scene as some other format but in either case, you must have the software to do that (Bryce or 3DS).
